what is the duralar for??? why do you need it? For storing the unmounted stamps on. It replaces the acetate sheet that clear stamps come on but someone at SCS mentioned that some of the sheets are not compatible for long term storage so the duralar is a safer option. I have very few clear stamps so I've been putting my rubber unmounted stamps on the duralar.

I'm using my Fuse tool to make my own pockets for the larger sets. I'm using an 8 1/2 x 11 page protector to do this. Ooh great idea :thumbs up:

Are there other versions of the stamping tool in question yet? I would love one but that is too much to spend on a tool. Hope I don't get in trouble for asking!

You won't get in trouble here. The owner of MISTI has no jurisdiction here. I haven't seen any other versions for sale but if you search, you might find doable DIY versions. Someone on another board (or maybe it was FB) used some kind of clear jewel cases but they looked bigger than regular ones. Let me see if I can find it.

That was fast. It was on FB. She bought some "super jewel boxes" from tapeonline.com and cut fun foam to fit inside. She also made a grid on transparency and stuck it to the lid. I've seen where others have done the same with cd cases but that wouldn't even hold an A2 size sheet of cardstock.

There are lots of "knock offs" out there now. You can make your own for less than $15 if you're willing. When mine breaks, I won't replace it for sure.

I don't get why the person in the last video went through all the trouble of making one that looks exactly like the original when she could have just bought one. Between time, energy, cost of supplies and gas..I can't see how it is even worth it.

Normally I'd agree with you - but if her husband is handy, she may have have virtually no cost for supplies or gas. And once you have your supplies, it's a pretty simple mechanism - just a box with low sides and a hinged lid. Honestly, if I showed my father a video of the original tool, he could retire to his workshop for less than an hour and have one for me, just with things he has on hand. And probably half that time would be taken up by him very carefully selecting exactly which thickness of plexiglass and which pieces of wood would work the best. He's pretty picky

Here is one for the DIYers that was posted on a Facebook group before it closed. It is not mine and I don't know who to give credit to for it but it may help someone that isn't able to spend $ on the other one. I did buy the Misti and love it but if I hadn't bought it I would've tried some of the DIY options.

Between time, energy, cost of supplies and gas..I can't see how it is even worth it. Less than $15 compared to $50+ would certainly be worth it to many people. And let's be honest, it's not "just" $50. The misti, 2 magnets, the cleaner and shipping was somewhere around $72. Most people are getting 3 or 4 magnets plus that pad of paper ... now you're over $80.

But I have no supplies or tools to make anything of the sort at my house. And then all the time and emotional energy to figure out how to make it. Just no, I'd rather be stamping. I'm thankful Sweet Petunia took the time to make one and share it with the masses --- or at least us non-DIY inclined masses.

Also, some of us just get a bit of a rush from making something ourselves - I can't fabricate myself a paper punch, or make my own dies. But I've been known to sew things that I probably could have purchased for less money. I think the storage racks that I've seen available for ink pads are well worth the money - made of hardwood and well-constructed. But I'll never buy one, because I can put something together from foamcore or matboard and I won't feel bad if I outgrow it - and every time I look at it, I'll know that I made it.

There's another report of a cracked one on the FB group. It starts cracking from the edges and it doesn't seem to matter how much a person babies it.

I priced the cleaner at Amazon when I bought it, and the difference (at the time) was minimal. The magnets are pretty cheap from her too. It just all adds up when you're buying the Misti.
As for the cracking, she claims it has to do with the way the edges were finished. Supposedly that was fixed in manufacturing in March some time.

I guess i can expect mine to crack at some point then. Mine too I guess. Shoot, I scrimped on my food budget and everything else and used my birthday money to be able to afford one back in February. I baby mine and it hasn't gotten much use because I am having trouble with my hip and can't sit to stamp, but I really can't afford to go around dropping $50 bucks for a tool that doesn't even last a few months for so many people. A 90 day warranty seems pretty stingy for such an expensive item.

Did I get a pre-march one? I hope she is helping those older buyers who experienced cracks since she NOW knows there is an issue and has worked to correct it. I think this is a great product and it has made me stamp so much more, I don't even use my clear blocks anymore, but I hope she'll strive to give good customer service so we can keep helping her spread the word.

Last I read, if you have cracks and she approves a return, you have to ship the unit back at your own expense. She will decide if it's exchange-worthy and she will pay to ship you the replacement.
