I am going to pretend I am a Shark on Shark Tank. First I would tell her she did not do her homework as far as the weakness of her materials. Secondly I am going to tell her she got too big too fast for a person with no business/marketing experience to know what to do when the sky started falling. Thirdly, I am going to tell her that when she got to big for her britches with her customers, she shot herself in the foot. She should have sold her idea to a business and lived off the royalties.

Yes. They are pretty much identical to the avery elle envelopes. They fit perfectly in my 4-drawer storage cubes. gale w Did I miss the link to the clear dvd envelopes you got that are the same as the Avery Elle? I started with AE but I need more and these sound so much more affordable! Please link if you can, thanks!

These are the ones I got but they're currently unavailable. I paid $12 for 200 of them. I did cut them down to 6" to fit into my storage drawers but if you use the binz or another type of holder you could get by with not cutting them down. They are just slightly thinner than the avery elle, but when I weighed them, they were only .5 grams less (per envelope) than avery elle. www.amazon.com/Clear-Plastic-Sleeves-Awork-Disc/dp/B00RU9ALWQ/

I got two 8x10 pieces of polycarbonate at Home Depot. I got two 8x10 picture frames at Walmart. Until I have time to go back to Home Depot and get a hinge, I rigged a very, very simple hack of the "tool that shall not be named." I used Gorilla Tape for my hinge (for now), and used one of the photo frames, but not the other. The depth was about right with just the one photo frame, after replacing the glass with polycarbonate, and I placed the 2nd piece of polycarbonate on top of the front of the frame, which is taped on one long side with Gorilla tape for the makeshift hinge. I removed the easel from the back piece because I wanted to keep the fiberboard back piece. It may not look pretty, but it stamps perfectly in the same spot each time. At least so far. Right now it only works with rubber cling stamps, but it does work. Since I only used one of the frames, so far my hack costs a little over $12 and took about 10-15 minutes to assemble.

I am so glad I found this thread. I made one of the homemade versions from the tutorials. I love my homemade version. I was going to splurge and buy the MISTI. Reading all of this has been a big eye opener. Thank you to everyone who posted. I am so grateful. This is kind of an off key question. What stamp positioner would you all recommend for stamping in scrapbooks or planners? Gale & RiverIsis I am so happy to see you over here. I wondered where you two went over at SCS. I should say it's me lylacfey. I didn't know all of this drama was going on over at SCS either. I don't read the MISTI threads. I didn't know any of the things going on over at SCS at all. I feel so oblivious right now.

I actually copied Jennifer McGuire into my PM apology and explanation to Lydia. I think a lot less of JM after all this. There was no need to allow Lydia to bully me and others on her and Iliana's behalf. Glad to be free from it now.

I wasn't banned at SCS even though I defended RiverIsis. I don't post as much there now though. Every time I see Lydia's posts there (which is a lot) it just puts me out of the mood.

I have a large-ish acrylic block from Fiskars that I use for pages - I like it because it's thick/has weight to it... And I have a small Martha Stewart block that has foam feet that I sometimes use too - it's about 2x3... For check marks and really small stamps, I use a small piece of acrylic that's maybe 1x1... I'm working on a knock off that will stamp on 12x12 LOs and go off the page so up to 13x13-ish... I don't often do 12x12 LOs so I wanted to make it small but able to stamp large so it's still in the 'testing' phase...lol

RiverIsis- Waving back to you too. I don't know how to put two quotes in one post over here. I will figure it out, eventually. I am still shocked and so mad about what happened to you. I really thought you just went on to different things in life. If I knew all of this I would have taken up for you too. Gale- I really understand. After learning all of this I can't post over there any more either. I am still shell shocked and trying to mentally digest all of this.

I bought the big one and I made a smaller stamp press out of an old Cuttlebug Plate and used kitchen sponges for the feet. I keep reading that people are using the "L" positioner to stamp in their Filofaxes. I am debating if I should add one of those to my toolbox. I stamp in my Filofax a lot.

What happened at SCS with Jennifer McGuire? Someone mentioned that Jennifer McGuire reviewed the MISTI on her blog and RiverIsis pointed out that it was a paid endorsement. Iliana posted that she did not pay her ($$, I guess) and RiverIsis said that since she got the product in return for reviewing it, it is indeed a payment. Some people agreed, some didn't. Someone said it was no one's business so I posted that it is her readers' business which is why it's standard practice to disclose, in a review, if you got the item for free or as payment. So anyway then someone posted something nasty to/about RiverIsis on instagram, which she addressed on SCS since the original discussion was there. At which point she was told to get back to discussing the product. I believe it was at this point when she was banned from SCS. Sometime during all of this Jennifer brought Lydia (UnderstandBlue) into her crafter's fold, theoretically to reward her for "having her back".

What happened at SCS with Jennifer McGuire? A bit more info than what Gale posted - people were all excited when Jennifer McGuire listed the MISTI as one of her favorites for 2014. She never said word one about receiving the tool for free until RiverIsis flat out asked (and there was no snark in the asking - she just asked if Jennifer had paid for her tool or was it given to her). The tap dancing around the question was actually quite entertaining, until Ileana came on and said "she wanted to pay for it; I wouldn't let her". I got my hand slapped and my post deleted for a comment that said (from what I remember, it's been deleted) that Jennifer McGuire is a big-time blogger and should certainly know better than not to disclose free merchandise, which is apparently making a member the subject of a negative post. Then it comes out that not only did Ileana give one of the tools to Jennifer, she sent one of the very early ones to Jennifer to get her opinion on it, and Jennifer gave her some input and put her in contact with someone who (I think) could help manufacture it? Didn't really follow any of the Instagram drama, I don't follow that - and I didn't realize that RiverIsis had been banned until I read it somewhere else. And then, most amazing thing, Simon Says Stamp - who is a company that Jennifer frequently markets for - is the first company to sell it. I know people were all excited about this great tool that was invented by a stamper and how awesome it is to support a small business, but the whole thing now smells kind of bad to me. I almost feel like the whole thing was choreographed to suck me in. But this weekend, I made one of my own, from a dollar store picture frame, a piece of plexiglass that my husband had in the shop, some plastic hinges that I found on Ebay for a very reasonable price and some other odds and ends from the crafty cave. And it works stinking great. And didn't cost me $50, and if the cover starts cracking I can replace it on my own. And I agree about SCS - I still read and post over there a little bit, but I was so tired of all the MISTI stuff on the front page that I finally turned off the member companies posts.

I still recommend the tool wholeheartedly. All these posts (here, there, everywhere LOL) about making DIY version are exhausting for me. I guess I'm just not into carpentry or engineering. While everyone is tinkering, I've been happily stamping away with the one I purchased. The owner however has to realize in this day and age of the net and pinterest, people DIY and hack everything. She should just focus on building her business because the vast majority of us will just buy it rather than make our own. (LIKE ME!) I do hope the owner learns from all these fumbles she's been having and comes out stronger in the end. I much prefer to support small businesses (even ones facing struggles) than to tear them down with negativity. I'm a focus on the positive type. So positive - this is a really cool stamping invention that has increased my stamping enjoyment and productivity tenfold. No matter how Jennifer McGuire acquired it, I'm glad she reviewed it and used it, because that's how I found it. I thank her for that.

No, the Fiskars one I use is just a large, thick, heavy acrylic block... I have their stamp press, but don't use it much... The smaller Martha Stewart one is like the stamp press, but her foam is more dense... Same thing though really... I have a personal size Kate Spade, and I haven't/can't think of a need I have for a positioned for it... Maybe it's just the page layout I use, but anything I want to stamp is easy to line up... I also don't do the layered (?) stamping - like the Altenew roses type, in my planner... For layouts, I'll got between eyeballing it, the stamp press, and something MISTI-like...

Considering all the threats since then, it is really disingenuous. I have been religious in my life in varying degrees but I was never comfortable pushing my faith on others, now if you want to have a discussion I'm all ears and quite a bit of mouth! This is almost like the "tell or ask" thread! People just don't take well to being told. And it wouldn't have rubbed me the wrong way if it had just been on the business card, but on the product it does.

I honestly can't recommend the tool because the warranty is too random for a product in this price category and the crazing seems to be affecting a far higher number than 1%. The issue I had with Jennifer McGuire's review of it, is that she didn't initially disclose how closely she was affiliated with the product nor whether she purchased it. When asked it took persistence to get the information that she got the product to promote it. No problem, loads of people do, but be upfront about it. I respect honesty. That is why I said, thanks for the feedback but I look for feedback from people who have purchased it and rate that higher as supported by the FTC act. She also got pretty close to threatening people too, saying she would defend this product's originality and help Iliana fight anyone who was trying to steal her idea. As seen in this thread, the idea was hardly new or original. TBH Iliana created her own negativity. The first year to six months she had a larger and increasing community that supported her 100% and were only offering constructive advice. I'm a big fan of small businesses - that's why I have a Scor-pal and not some knock off product. That seems to have been a successful business model without all the upsets.

I guess I should have read further up, rather than just where I was quoted and then working my way up! Gale W and Cbet that is pretty much how I remember it too. I think I pointed out on SCS that Jennifer McGuire is basically no more a "person" in social media for crafters than Martha Stewart (we could add Kate Spade, Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors from other industry etc.). Yeah, she posts as a lifestyle and crosses the two, but if someone has a concern arising from social media postings it isn't a personal attack because they have put that information out there as part of their brand. Honestly if you want a private personal life, keep it private, especially if you are going to use your name as your brand.

What kills me about this whole thing is according to the FCC, bloggers are REQUIRED to notify their readers that they were given the items to review. Even if it's just using a hashtag (#sponsored) or something like that. But it has to be clear that they didn't purchase the items. This practice is VERY lax in the paper crafting industry I've noticed. Someone will get in trouble one of these days over it. The weight loss blogging community is very good about this practice - in fact the sponsors REQUIRE bloggers to be clear in their posts. It's part of the deal. The funny thing is, I rarely see Jennifer McGuire use it at all anymore. She always uses plain acrylic blocks.

I was watching one of her newer videos today and she didn't use it in it either, even though she stressed the need to get a good impression with the stamp. I have to admit I kinda chuckled.
