I suspect our constituency will see a change in party - there's been a real shift in attitude over recent years. It will be very interesting to see what happens. DH is staying up but I like my sleep too much to be up much later!

That exit poll makes for interesting reading. Only time will tell how accurate it is. On those figures the Tories only need 10 more for a majority...ironically the number they're predicting the LibDems will have!
ETA If those numbers were correct then a minority government could also be an option...

I hadn't seen the exit poll either so have just checked up on what is being said on the news sites online. They all seem to be using the MORI poll on the splash pages now - tonight's Election coverage could well be very interesting judging by those poll results.

No surprise on the result but the other figures were interesting - Lib Dems polled lower than the Greens

Looks like it will be a strong night for SNP. 58 seats is not a believable prediction, but 40-some seats would be historic.

I'm not surprised that Sunderland held their seat but I am surprised that UKIP did so well there......should I be Barbara? You know the area up there better than I do.

Between Paddy Ashdown eating his hat & now Alistair Campbell threatening to eat his kilt if SNP get 58 seats, this election is certainly giving people a lot to chew over ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

If SNP truly gets 58 seats, I will actually celebrate National Buckfast Day on Sat. And drinking Bucky scares me. It tastes like cough syrup and makes me want to punch Rangers fans.
(Apologies to any Rangers fans here. I'm sure you're just lovely.)

Sigh I hate voting time. Our house is in one district and our garden another district but our address is for the garden district and which is where schools, etc, all of our lives are based in the district our garden is in. Come to vote and we vote for a district we have nothing to do with and same for the parliamentary seat. Went to vote. Ignored the local ward election and voted for the parliamentary election - it's unlikely that it will be anything other than Conservative - the MP got 24k votes and the next down the scale got 10k votes last time. It's Patrick McLoughlin Secretary of State for Transport so I'm happy with that anyhow.
Every time it comes to vote I grumble and bitch about it all!

Seems to be the protest vote this election @dottyscrapper........and apparently a bit of a surprise and worry for the locals judging by what is being said to Son who has friends in that area. People there have become disillusioned with the LibDems and the ones who don't want to vote Labour won't vote Conservative so UKIP seems to have become the protest vote.

Sigh I hate voting time. Our house is in one district and our garden another district We live in one town but are in the constituency of another town entirely (10 miles away)! Some of the candidate info we got through our door was for the "local" constituency & not the one we vote in. Luckily our local elections actually are for where we live/go to school/work (in my case). Results wise the "local" MP & "our" MP will only ever be Tories so it doesn't make a difference.

I wonder why Sunderland are so much faster at counting than other regions? They have got it down to a fine art! ![](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) They use motorbikes to bring the boxes into the Count, use sixth formers to carry the boxes into the count, use thinner paper for ballot paper so that it's easier to handle and count, the instructions ask that the papers are folded top to bottom before being placed into the ballot box and bank tellers are used for rapid counting.

Something I always wanted to know - can anyone go to a count? Yes, to be an observer but the people are usually active in party politics, help out during the Election campaign and are chosen by the party to attend the Count. Observers from all the political parties are there to keep an eye on things to make sure things are all above board. At least, that's how it's worked up here. Employees of the local Council, or people contracted by them, are the ones who actually handle the ballot papers and do the Count and recount if necessary before the result is announced.

Something I always wanted to know - can anyone go to a count? Certain people can by their right to be there...such as candidates and their agents and other "officials"but I think members of the public have to apply for permission to the Returning Officer and it's up to him/her if he'll allow them to do so. The RO usually allows access to a certain number of the media as a matter of course. They would have to limit the number from members of the public as it would turn into a " circus" not to mention a matter of security if there were too many there.
