I wasn't going to stay up and I'm not much longer but ooo, it's fascinating up here! Every Scottish seat declared is SNP so far.
Think I'll see David Cameron's constituency declaration then tootle to bed.

I've just seen my former MP ousted, so I'm off to bed now!

This Brit will be, but maybe not all night. I hear the key time for results is around 3/4am......not sure I can manage that although the telly will go on early in the morning. I just want to say that I love the word "telly." Now off to read the rest of the thread.

If SNP truly gets 58 seats, I will actually celebrate National Buckfast Day on Sat. And drinking Bucky scares me. It tastes like cough syrup and makes me want to punch Rangers fans. (Apologies to any Rangers fans here. I'm sure you're just lovely.) Why would you punch Rangers fans (and what are your Rangers?) Personally I always want to punch Rangers fans, the hockey variety

The two sides are carefully segregated during games, due to past violence. You can get kicked out for singing banned songs, and the taunts can be awful. (Rangers mostly.)

Morning Wellway. I think you might be right! This Election has just about wiped out the Lib Dems and Labour have done really badly so new Leaders would seem to be on the cards.

Yes, MORI got that Exit Poll just about spot on. They usually have done with Exit Polls in recent years but that came as a bit of a surprise after the ones done the day before!

OK, I admit to some surprise. Not too early here, we have been up for a while watching your count.
I thought red and blue would be closer, I am very worried about all that purple- second in a whole swathe of constituencies? I have to differentiate between the yellows- can't really feel too sorry for the one that was in coalition, they deserve to be dumped for sacrificing their principles. I look forward to hearing the views of the Brits a bit later.

BBC quote UKIP nationally will have gained 3.5 million votes and yet will only end up with one (or possibly two seats) in the House of Commons, YouGov's Peter Kellner says. Meanwhile, the SNP will have 1.5 million votes but 56 seats. Hardly surprising that UKIP have become advocates of electoral reform. Mr Kellner says, if nothing else, it makes electoral reform a subject of debate.

DH has been reading out the results from his iPad for the past 20 mins, and we've got the bedroom telly on now. I'm pretty astounded by all the big political names that have toppled in this election. Surely Ed will go now. Quite sorry for Jim Murphy as I think he's a decent, hard-working man, whatever you think of his politics. I expected SNP to do well, but I'm pretty shocked at the all the seats they've taken.

Crikey! Interesting night for sure! Happy that my earlier prediction seems to have been quite wrong. Interested to see the actual voting figures involved re SNP & UKIP, I think we're going to hear a lot about that...

Waiting for the results re Ed Balls and Nigel Farage.
If you haven't seen it, try to catch Boris's acceptance speech, flanked by what looked like candidates for the Raving Looney Monster party - just a funny visual.

For the sake of simplicity in our General Election results amongst other things, I'm really glad that red and blue weren't closer ScrapsontheRocks! That would have lead us into maybe the two main parties Tory (blue) and Labour (red) needing weeks of negotiations with the smaller parties to determine who could form a Coalition government and resulting in protracted political wrangling! UKIP (purple) have possibly been used as a protest vote in some areas maybe partly because some Labour voters didn't want to actually vote Labour this time. The Lib Dems are usually used as a protest vote but UKIP seems to moved into that position this time - possibly because of the policies they have fought this campaign on. It will be interesting to see what happens to the UKIP party in future elections. The Lib Dems (yellows) have a well documented history of going from having just a few MP's voted in at a General Election to a much higher number as in our previous General Election.......and this time they have gone back to having just a few MP's. They have never been one of the big parties though they have been regarded as the UK's third party. The SNP in Scotland have just about got every seat there with Labour losing out big time. It will be interesting to see what difference that makes to the UK Parliament at Westminster. All in all a very interesting Election Night!
