I would rather my guys be "unfashionable" than look like they are running around in swim trunks all of the time.

DH and my boys all wear cargo shorts. The youngest has jean cargo shorts even!
DH is a big guy with fairly slim legs. Cargos do balance him out a little. And he has flat front but doesn't like how fitted they are. Otherwise, it's an endless parade of khaki cargo shorts from April to October.

Ds is 26 - when he was at UF (he graduated in 2011), the fraternity "uniform" was cargo shorts, flip flops or boat shoes, and a Guy Harvey, Salt Life, or UF T shirt. It's still pretty much his weekend uniform

Well, I think my almost 7 year old is looking quite adorable in his plaid cargo shorts. I'm not a fan of jean shorts on men, but I refuse to micro manage my husband and dictate what he wears.

I haven't seen teens or young men in cargo shorts in forever. My son wears nike, or under armor atheletic shorts to school and on Sundays (or dressy occasions) he wears the colored flat front style. But they don't look nearly as feminine as those in the blog. Maybe it's the cut? They are not short, or snuggish. 90% athletic, 10% dressy.

I see the boys in colored shorts, a long sleeved button down polo shirt with the sleeves rolled up and boat shoes. They look like 1983 all over again. This must be the new uniform, I see this a lot too. Variation B: Colored shorts and button down shirts with sleeves rolled up and shades, don't forget the shades. Please note... no socks with the boat shoes or loafers.

Hmmm. It must be that my town is SO not fashion-forward, but tons of guys wear cargo shorts here. A Google shopping tab search shows that they're still alive and well. You know what shorts I'd love to see come back? Jams. Of course, I am fashion-immune and still love 80's style! LOL.

My DH lives in cargo shorts all summer long. He has a couple tan pair, a dark green pair, and a navy pair. Some are heavier weight material and some are lighter, nylon material. And no... he doesn't load them up with a bunch of junk either... Especially not kittens. Usually his phone and his wallet. He wouldn't be caught dead in any of the other shorts pictured on that page. Colors? No. Plaid? No. Prints? Hell no! I think he's kinda hot in his cargo shorts.

They were dress code. Rain/Snow/Sun it didn't matter that was what they wore!

A friend of mine was at Disneyland today and snapped a pic of Matt Damon there and he's in cargo shorts. If they're good enough for Jason Bourne, they're good enough for DH.

It's high school boys so they're still developing their styles- but it's often enough it's definitely not a "Fashion Don't". I love the combos they come up with. My youngest had pink cuffed socks peeking over the tops of his Vasque hiking boots the other day.

All my boys including dh wear cargo shorts. DD's BF took her out to a concert and I thought he was still wearing his PJ's. Little skinny shorts with some kind of print on them. Like the first picture in the OP. My guys would DIE rather than be seen in those. Just kidding but DS just looked at me as if he was wondering whether or not I was ready for the loony bin when I showed him those pics and asked if he'd like a pair.

Anyone else surprised that there is a five page thread about cargo shorts that has little or no controversy involved? I read the whole thing waiting for the drama and was keenly disappointed to find the thread stayed on topic! Maybe I should start a thread questioning whether or not the Refupeas are losing their edge and becoming staid. (JK)

Judy26 I was thinking same thing about the length. Hadn't thought about the lack of frame though. This might be a record!

I went to the mall yesterday after reading this thread. 75% of the men there were wearing cargo shorts. Evidently fashion trends haven't hit Ohio.

Let's be honest, in the age group that is wearing them, if the right clique at school isn't wearing them then no other student is going to be caught dead in them and that goes for any fashion.
I still remember wearing my hair with different colored rubber bands in Middle school and getting made fun of, only for the most popular girl in the school to do it a couple of weeks later and then it was cool etc.
Cargos are going to stay around because they are so useful and generic. They are just a new type of "jeans".
