Some bridezilla and her maids? Or am I imagining that one? Would have been around 2005 or 2006. I think it started when someone posted about this bride she'd seen at the Knot and a tacky wedding or something? Maybe I made it up in my head, but I'm sure it happened..

I tried a couple times for HOF knowing full well (or assuming) that the contest was rigged. It had to be rigged. There was no way that the winners were so consistent with who was popular at the time and who was getting published. To be honest, I thought that even the whole getting published thing was rigged, by the magazines and the product manufacturers. It was so rare that someone just randomly got published for their work without an obvious pull to the hot product at that moment. I found the whole thing really distasteful and I was kind of glad when the industry imploded because it proved how fake the industry was getting. I was published quite a few times in all the scrapbook magazines back in those days. I certainly didn't use all the hot products because I didn't have them. I think I was the first Australian published in BH&G Scrapbooks etc., so maybe that was the novelty? I'm loving this look down memory lane. Yeah, I won HOF a couple years before it imploded. I wasn't a complete unpublished unknown, but I didn't have any "ins" or connections either. I've posted this before, but after we won, an editor told us on our private discussion board that she felt HOF was pretty authentic. She spilled the beans on some other things to us (and got into some trouble for it), but she maintained that it was treated seriously. I have no doubt that they were looking for some people each year, and it wouldn't be blind with photos and styles so obvious, but I still think it's unfair to call it all rigged when some of us worked pretty darn hard to win. Honestly, it was ten years ago. I don't really care much or think of it often anymore, but I did work incredibly hard on my submission, and it wasn't rigged for me.

I do think later years were pre chosen but in the earlier days, I do believe it was to just find some amazing, talented people.

Oh, and there were tons of very talented people who never won HOF. Some who were much more published than I was, and in general, more talented.
All artistic contests are subjective, and most are not completely blind. I don't think HOF was any different, at least in 2005. Maybe by the end it had been corrupted completely. I don't know and I doubt any of the current peas do imo.

There were some awesome scrappers in the books. I have every year except the last year. That one I never could find.

However, I lost my own year though lol (I have one in a box somewhere and the other walked off). My mom still has a couple copies though, so I'm ok.

I think Helena still comes here (or maybe I just see her on FB?), but I wonder if there are any other HOF winners who still come here. How many Garden Girls? I was never a GG. I figured I burned that bridge by my presence on NSBR. ;p
I still see many gg/hof's on FB, but I'm trying to think who comes here still? Anyone?

From what I recall, Nurse Kitty had come home from a rough shift at work - I think a patient had died??? Then I think she was drinking. All of that combined to make her pretty explosive. Didn't Eight get in trouble for selling stolen goods? What about that woman who had 4 little boys and she couldn't handle them. Someone found a newspaper article that some of those little boys were found wandering in the middle of the night while she and her husband were passed out stoned? Or something like that? I don't remember her user name, but it was a combination of her name and her husband's. I remember what happened with Eight, because I was one of the Pea's posting that she was could be getting her &/or her DH in trouble. She was planning to buy, I think I-pods, from the Base Exchange & selling them for profit. Claimed she had no idea that was against the rules. A bunch of us military wives let her know that was common knowledge for anyone with Base Exchange priviledge's. Can't remember what came of it, besides her arguing it was a stupid rule & she may do it anyway. Her & Nursekitty could be terrible bitches to others, & yes, I remember the butterface comment. The poor woman didn't know what it meant, & posted asking about it. Really felt bad for her.

I remember the 'hippo-crates' thread on the GS board. A pea posted a YT video of a hoarders scraproom and all hell broke loose. The YTuber's friend came over and swore at us GS peas in Spanish. I was actually there for that one! That was hilarious, it just went on and on. Toward the end people were posting images of hippos and crates and the girl never did catch on. I was also here for the sidewalk cupcakes and the husband cooking his own Christmas dinner. Everything else I've just read about. I can't believe the LA Times and NY Times had articles on that scrapbook chick.

Kristina Contes debacle was more to the fact that she called all scrappers "Susie Scrappers" Meaning they weren't up to HER standard of a 'life artiste' or whatever she called herself. She then blasted a bunch of people for questioning her "fame" and her crediting someone else in her HOF win" It was then revealed that she was pre-chosen to win and that the contest had been rigged for years. It was a mess and Ms. Contes (who was very rude and obnoxious IMO) came on again and blasted everyone for being envious of her fabulous lifestyle. Come on people, she owned a restaurant you know!!! I'm not sure if it was said already, by Kristina had used a photo of herself, one that had appeared elsewhere and was not taken by her, on a layout or more. In fact, her layouts generally did feature photos of herself and the rule at the time was that you needed to have taken all photos yourself. Here's a little interesting factoid. I was asked to appear on the Jon Stewart show to discuss the HOF controversy. Despite my desire to take a limo to NYC with Jon (would have been my request! LOL! He lives near me) and my desire to meet him, I declined. I don't remember how they found me. Might have even been through 2Peas. They thought I could logically explain the issue. I believe KC herself was going to appear on the show as well... but they didn't want her without a rebuttal. No way Jose! I remember that the story made it to the main stream press... I would have wanted to go meet Jon Stewart!

I remember a thread about a pea who couldn't understand why moms would be stressing with what to do with the kids during summer vacations. They had summer camps, foreign language classes, picnics in the park, enrichment activities etc. AND each kid got his/her own special day each week that they got to plan. We were all just slackers. I remember that .. it was a great thread!

Does anyone remember when the GG's private board was accidentally left open for a few hours.. that was pretty crazy!! I don't think it was left open, but I think someone figured out that they would pull up in search results, and you could see the thread title and first 20 words of the post, or something. It was before I was a GG, and I freely admit that the first thing I did when I became one was search the private board as far back as I could go to see if there were any juicy threads. Alas, there weren't.

My favorite peatlejuice has to be when MaryMary started a thread about a tv show that featured women who didn't know they were pregnant until they were in labor, and one of them showed up! We live out of town from both families, so for every holiday and summer we always have to make so many trips. I would buy every magazine and save them for the trips. It would give me something to look forward to with all the traveling we have to do. I really miss that! And all the great ideas I got from the magazines. And I miss the 2Peas gallery too!

Yeah, me too. One of my all time favorite threads was the showdown versus Mormon Christmas Kitsch and Catholic Kitsch.

I think it's awesome that you won @thegreatcarpezio and I am happy when I hear about these wins. I think I just got jaded towards the end and that colours how I see the whole thing.
