Agree with everyone who looks fed Hidden Figures, Lion, and, LaLa Land. They were wonderful. I am one of those people who makes sure I watch all of the movies nominated in major categories before the Oscars. I would have liked Veda to see Hidden Figures or Lion win, my two favirites, but I knew they wouldn't.
As far as Hacksaw Ridge, I thought the story (especially since it's true) is fascinating and beautiful. Andrew Garfield did a fine job in the lead role and the battle scenes were heartbreakingly realistic. BUT, we found Vince Vaughn (whom I normally love in both comedies and dramas) unbelievable in his role as the commander. The dialog was kind of hokey at times and it gave the movie a cheesy quality during some scenes. It was my least favorite of the nominated movies.
Now that Oscars are over, I really want to see Get Out. The family is super keen on seeing King: Skull Island though (dd and her friend are huge Tom Hiddleston fans), so dh and I are taking them to see that this afternoon. I'll let you know what we think of it after.

Going to the local artsy theatre this afternoon to see The Ottoman Lieutenant ... anyone seen that yet? I'm no slave to reviews, and we liked the story line and trailer. Okay, this movie is terrific. On a historical fiction scale of 1-10 it is at least a 7 If you can find it at a theatre near you, get there!

I finally watched Hacksaw Ridge yesterday and quite enjoyed it. I now understand why Andrew Garfield was nominated for an Oscar. Great performance.
I also saw an older movie...Me Before You. Had not read the book, so did not know the ending, although it was easily predictable. Cried like I haven't cried in a looong time. Emilia Clark was SO GOOD.

We went to see Kong: Skull Island. We actually enjoyed it because it was a different story from the other King Kong movies we've seen. The special effects were amazing.

Similar to Layce --We have an independent theater nearby and saw telecasts of National Theater Live's "Hamlet" with Benedict Cumberbatch, "St Joan" with Gemma Arterton, and "Hedda Gabler" with Ruth Wilson for $25.00 each. They were wonderful productions; "Hamlet" sold out entirely. I highly recommend if the productions are offered in your area.

We went to see The Great Wall today. We actually enjoyed it! The cinematography as well as the special effects were amazing. The *beasts* were nasty and the beating of the drums was one of my favorite parts. That's the band mom in me speaking!

I have read several articles that say the video was doctored. People on set said there were scuba divers below the water to make sure the dog was fine. Who knows what really happened, but I tend to believe that animals are often treated better than actors in some cases. (Which I am fine with.) I don't think the video was doctored. I owned and trained a German Shepherd dog (with positive reinforcement) and I know the look on that German Shepherd's dog's face was one of fear. He/she was afraid to get into that water and was forced into it. Do you think they would have forced a human to go into the water if a human was that afraid? No, of course not. I don't care if they had scuba divers under the water. Forcing an animal into water it is afraid to get into is abuse in my opinion. And no animal deserves to be abused. To me it looks like the dog almost drowned in that video. I don't believe animals are treated better than actors. Do they put actors in cages before they come on set to preform? No they don't. I boycotted that movie and I hope the movie lost a ton of profit due to the boycotting that occurred thanks to PETA. Here's my point-what if it wasn't doctored and was true? Was it really that important to see that you'd give your money to support the film makers who abused a dog just so they could get the shot they needed? It either was or it wasn't. I choose to err on the side of caution and support the dog. Because I know how humans are.

I choose to err on the side of caution and support the dog. Because I know how humans are. I saw videos showing the dog at other times. I saw several videos of the people who were on the set describing what they believed happened who were there. I just don't think the public got the whole story (good or bad). I didn't see the movie because I can't watch a dog die. I have a water dog. He'll jump in any water anywhere. He'll tube with us, paddle board, and jet ski. We had to get him a jacket because he doesn't much for legs or a tail. He'll often get himself caught somewhere in the water and freak out a bit and then he'll do it again five minutes later. I have become pretty skeptical about social media and take much of what I see as one side of the story.

My family saw The Belko Experiment on Friday and it was horrible. Whatever company makes fake blood for movies made a fortune on this movie.

We finally saw Beauty and the Beast last weekend and loved it, as well. It was very well cast, wasn't it!
Did they all do their own singing? At least, I was not aware that Emma Watson could sing.

We just got back from seeing The Zookeeper's Wife. We had seen previews but neither of us had read the book. It was heartbreaking and horrifying as movies set in Poland during WWII usually are, but it was beautifully made and worth seeing. ETA: If you have seen the movie and want to know fact vs Hollywood fiction, here is a good source: Fact or Fiction

We finally got to the theater today after 3 weeks off to move. The Regal Cinemas up here is AWESOME! $5.25 senior matinees on Tuesday compared to $9.45 in the bay area. Plus they accept our cup that we bought in 2003 and get $1 refills on soda. But the best part is that they just installed leather reclining seats ~ oh so comfortable! We saw Going in Style today ~ it was fun and a nice respite from unpacking. Here is a picture of DH before the movie started: Attachments:

Lisa Great movies! Yeah, as much as we go to the movies we figure we've saved between $2,000 - $3,000 on soda. Those cups are like gold!

Liked The Circle, maybe 7 out of 10.
Even though Tom Hanks and (the late) Bill Paxton are in it, Emma Watson has top billing.
Recommend.

I just came here to post about The Circle. I would give it a pass. When it finished DD and I looked at each other like WTF?? It that it? I thought it never gained steam... there was no thrill in the thriller. It was a great concept, I hear the book was good. I think they just didn't catch the tension or drama. The ending was wrapped up to nicely. I would have enjoyed it if I had watched it on TV.. The plus was the leather recliners!

At Pea Rec I saw Gifted and Hidden Figures yesterday. I loved them both. I'm not an action or horror kinda girl, so these fit the bill for a cold and dreary day. Thanks, Peas!

Just saw "The Dinner" for Mother's Day as I read the book and loved it.
The movie had so much potential. I thought the acting was wonderful. But the execution of the plot was terrible. And the ending. Really, really bad.
I should've gone to see "Snatched" instead. Lol.
