Went to Jumanji - wasn't expecting much but we all really enjoyed it...it was funnier than I was expecting I am glad to hear that - the previews look pretty funny and I want to see it. I went to see "Ladybird" yesterday and I thought it was pretty good - a coming of age movie so to speak. Laurie Metclaff was wonderful in it! I am so glad my mom isn't like that but I have friends who have mothers like her. I got MoviePass with some Christmas money that I received so I have a feeling that I may be posting to this thread more often this year.

We saw Molly's Game tonight. Dh and I both really liked it. Interesting story and some great actors. DH hadn't seen the previews and wasn't sure about it. I could tell shortly into the movie that he was enjoying it. Afterwards I told him he needs to let me just pick all our movies.

My sister came for a visit this weekend and we had a movie fest. We watched The Zookeepers Wife. Quite touching but I had a hard time understanding the wife’s accent. 4/5 Girl’s Trip - Raunchy and crude but one of the funniest movies I have seen in years. 5/5 Passengers - A perfect rainy day movie 4/5 Mr. Church - We really enjoyed this. Eddie Murphy was perfect for his role. 5/5 Lion - Excellent 5/5 Daddy’s Home - Funny and enjoyable. I’m glad we watched it at home. 4/5 We made cookies and lasagna. Snacked and talked and laughed our way through the weekend. It was so much fun! Loved The Zookeeper's Wife! It was on again recently so I watched it for the second time. When I have trouble with accents I put on the subtitles. It helps me a lot! I've watched a couple of good movies lately on Netflix of all places. So hard to find good movies there recently-at least it has been for me. The first one is called "The Climb" and is about a young French-Senegalese man from humble roots sets out to climb Mt. Everest to impress the woman he loves so she will go out with him, while becoming a media sensation. This is in French but it was so funny, good and inspiring. I loved every second of it! Great movie! The second one is one of those funny, light movies you watch when you just want to have a good time and laugh your head off. It's called "Fun Mom Dinner" and has Toni Collette. I love this actress. I've liked her ever since I saw her for the very first time in "Muriel's Wedding". Oh, speaking of this actress there's another great movie that she's in with Drew Barrymore. It's over on Amazon and it's called "Miss You Already". That's a drama but if you haven't seen it yet it's a wonderful movie.

I saw The Greatest Showman and Wonder last week. I loved both of these movies, but <swoon> The Greatest Showman was beyond incredible. I adored the music - every single song.

We went to see Downsizing yesterday. Awful, awful movie! It was so bad we didn't stay until the end. Don't waste your money! Then you didn't even see the worst of it. That was truly the worst movie ever. The first half had some promise. Not like great promise, but not terrible. It could have gone somewhere. Then I got up and went to the bathroom and came back and felt like I went into an entirely different theater. I asked my husband what I missed because obviously something happened to completely change the direction. His reply was "I don't know what the hell just happened." A line from the movie pretty well summed it up: What kind of fuck you give me? American people - eight fuck: love fuck, hate fuck, sex only fuck, break-up fuck, make-up fuck, drunk fuck, buddy fuck, pity fuckThat movie was a what the fuck.

My husband and I are doing a movie a day this week because we couldn't remember the last time we'd been to a movie due to our work schedules.
So far, we've seen: Lady Bird I, Tonya Coco Molly's Game Pitch Perfect 3
I listed them in the order I liked them, though Lady Bird and I, Tonya are tied for first place. I highly recommend both.
Coco was visually beautiful and we had the theater to ourselves, which was handy because the ending was a tearjerker for me.
Tomorrow is either Star Wars or The Shape of Water.

Went to see The Commuter today. The critics panned it but we thought it was a wild ride. More holes in the plot than in a piece of swiss cheese but still fun. We still have a few unanswered questions we're mulling over.

Went to The Commuter yesterday and totally agree. Had to suspend any disbelief and just go with it. It was engaging in some ways but I agree with the paper giving it a C overall..maybe I'd give it a C+!!

We got our MoviePass this week so we headed to the movies both yesterday and today. Yesterday we saw I, Tonya. That movie bored the crap out of me. I didn’t enjoy it. Today, we saw Lady Bird. I enjoyed it. It reminded me of Juno and Napoleon Dynamite. Can’t wait to see what next weekend brings us!
Oh, and last weekend we saw 12 Strong. We liked it (my husband much more than me). It’s not one that I would watch over and over again but enjoyed it nonetheless.

I watched Mudbound on Netflix over the weekend, and I really liked it. It’s a slow burn, but a great story, in a weird way. I highly recommend it.

Came home from seeing Den of Thieves. Watch the beginning very closely.
Gerard Butler is always easy on the eyes.
Warning: There is violence in this movie.

Just got home from seeing 12 Strong a movie about the harrowing days following 9/11 when a U.S. Special Forces team, led by their new Captain, Mitch Nelson, is chosen to be the first U.S. troops sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. There, in the rugged mountains, they must convince Northern Alliance General Dostum to join forces with them to fight their common adversary: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. In addition to overcoming mutual distrust and a vast cultural divide, the Americans—accustomed to state-of-the-art warfare—must adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghani horse soldiers. But despite their uneasy bond, the new allies face overwhelming odds: outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that does not take prisoners.
A brutal reminder of the war in Afghanistan.
