Watched Jen Garner be a bad ass last weekend in "Peppermint." Tons of graphic violence, but it was mostly needed in the movie. I really want to see "Bel Canto," but it's only showing at one theater in the greater Phoenix area, which happens to be about an hour away. I'll pass. Lisa

We finally rented Jurassic World last night. I thought it was absolutely terrible. Not even Chris Pratt could save that train wreck.
The little girl is supposed to be Lex’s kid, right? For some reason my husband wouldn’t agree with me and I don’t think it was ever explicitly stated.

Oh! I also watched Unsane, directed by Soderbergh earlier this week (its free on amazon prime video right now if anyone else wants to watch). Holy cow did that movie ever make me uncomfortable and tense! If he would have just kept the focus on the stalking and whether or not she was really seeing her stalker it would have been phenomenal. But he sent us spiraling into the world of for profit mental facilities and that kind of ruined it. Maybe if they had covered that aspect a little bit less. Def a good movie though and it seriously makes you think!

I thought for sure with that much imitation of Lex’s behaviors that the movie makers were trying to send some kind of subtle message about her parentage. I need to rewatch it.

I liked Peppermint too, love those movies where JG kicks butt!
Saw Life Itself over the weekend.. blew me away. Terrific casting, acting. Almost kinda sorta like Begin Again from a few years back. But darker. I loved both storylines and how they finally converged at the end.
Possible Oscar material here.. but still, it's not for everyone.
Recommend.

We watched Hostiles on Netflix and I really, really liked it. I am a Christian Bale fan so that helped, but it’s just a good story. Highly recommend it.

I saw "Night School" over the weekend. It's dumb and cheesy, but I thought there were many funny scenes.

I wasn’t that much interested in the movie after that.

Fall Break next week! What's good for kids? What age range? Younger kids (13 and under) will probably really like "Smallfoot"

I saw "A Star Is Born." Excellent movie. I thought all three of the main actors - Lady Gaga, Brad Cooper, and Sam Elliot - were so amazing!

I saw "A Star is Born" and thought Lady Gaga started out phenomenally but then leveled off the second half of the movie.

I agree. And for us, hard to get past the hard core profanity Surprised by the casting of Andrew Dice Clay in a terrific performance as Ally's dad! Bradley Cooper carried the film. Layce

We saw A Star is Born yesterday, and loved it. Andrew Dice Clay was wonderful as her father. And Lady Gaga is just so talented -- she's got it all. But Bradley Cooper's dog was the real star --- sniff sniff.
I really like it.

Has anyone seen First Man yet?my 9 year old DS wants to see it, and while I don't think there will be any inappropriate content in there I'm nervous he thinks it's going to be a big action movie and I'm betting it's a really good drama. I've been waiting for Kids In Mind to give me their spin, but I'd love to hear opinions from anyone who has seen it. I've heard it's excellent, I'm just worried he's going to be bored. DH is pooh poohing me and while i have no qualms about saying fine, you take him, I don't want to subject a theatre full of others who actually want to be there to the fact that my kid is bored.

She just had to put her labradoodle down and she looked almost exactly like that dog. I knew she was going to go see the movie. ETA: That was REALLY his own dog?? I thought Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were both great...but the movie was way too long

my dh and I saw The Dawn Wall a couple of weeks ago and just saw Free Solo this afternoon. both are about climbing routes up El Capitan in Yosemite. different focuses.. both excellent films. Free solo is focused on Alex Honnold. who went up El Cap without any equipment. it was interesting how the film makers were part of the story. one of the great sport achievements.. as someone put it in the movie.. it is like going for a Gold Medal, and if you fail, you die. Dawn Wall was both a climbing movie and the story of these two partners. and how they overcame odds to put up the hardest route up El cap. The shots after the credit focused on the film makers.
I highly recommend both movies--esp for younger people. and seen on a big screen was best. happy we saw them. You don't have to be climbers or outdoor people to enjoy them.
