We just got back from seeing Long Shot starring Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen. I thought the previews looked good and Rotten Tomatoes had it over 80% so I talked DH into it ~ he isn't a Rogen fan so I shouldn't have. There were a few funny scenes but overall we found it pretty vulgar and trashy. The only real bright spot was that we have never seen Charlize Theron look more beautiful. I'm sure many people will love the movie if they like that kind of humor. Oh darn I think this is what we're going to see tomorrow. I'm not into superheroes and nothing else looked appealing. Hopefully we will get enough out of it for the price of admission!

I saw Rocketman tonight. It was very good, but was slightly disappointed I didn’t like it as much as I hoped. I think I’m comparing it to Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman is a musical fantasy so I guess it’s just a preference. Taron Egerton was fantastic.

John Wick Chapter 3 was a fun, action filled ride. Really enjoyed it.

Just got back from A Dog's Journey. Very sweet, but sometimes dark, continuation of Ethan and dog, Bailey's, journey. It made us laugh and it made us cry.

John Wick was uber violent but good. left a good opening to the next one coming out in may 2021. i like keanu reeves and at 54, he still does the action film well.
this weekend we are watching Aladdin. DH is iffy but he's going because i want to see it.

I rented cold pursuit. We got two murders into it and took it back.

DH and I went to see John Wick 3 today - not really my type of movie but it did hold my interest. DH enjoyed it.

We saw Tolkien today and enjoyed it. Critics thought it was slow, but I thought it was very touching. We went to an exhibit in NYC about JRR Tolkien's life and publishing his works, and the movie brought it all back to me. Nicholas Hoult and Lily Collins were sweet together. The movie also illustrated the horrors of World War I and the devastation on that generation. Definitely worth a rental if you enjoy biopics.
ETA: I saw a post today that the Tolkien family does not endorse this film. Fair warning.

I rented cold pursuit. We got two murders into it and took it back. i thought about watching this on Demand but i figure, if you've seen one of his action films, you've seen them all. i really like Liam Neeson but i hate that he's been stuck in the same movie format for years now.

Just got back from this with my 18-yr.-old son. We both adored it. I was glad the theater was not too crowded as we were talking a little. Super super sweet. I liked it even more than A Dog's Purpose. All the feels for sure. Lisa

I also saw The Hustle. This is a raunchy remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the 80s movie with Steve Martin and Michael Caine. Instead of men doing the conning, women (Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson) are the con artists. I thought it was super funny.
If you want a mindless summer flick, this is it.
If you haven't ever seen DRS, watch that first.

We took the kids to see Avengers Endgame yesterday. They loved it. I thought it was ok. It was really long, and some parts were super boring and could have been cut. There were also some super funny parts. I esp loved Thor’s scenes. 😂. I really like the way they ended the series.

LOVED Dirty Rotten Scoundrels! STILL love it! .. Hey don't forget, there's a brilliant female con artist who SCAMS THEM ALL!! (Oh. Is that considered a spoiler? Sorry.) Layce ETA Watched Rim of the World on Netflix recently.. in spite of tween profanity it was rather good. One thumb up

A friend & I saw Rocketman today and LOVED it.
I'm not usually a fan of musicals when they sing the storyline instead of talking, but I thought the way they did it in this movie worked really well. Loved the songs and production numbers & loved the costumes. Despite all of his faults Elton still comes across as very likeable. I thought it was much better than Bohemian Rhapsody which left me a bit cold.
Taron Egerton does a great job as Elton and avoids turning him into a caricature and he does all of the singing in the movie as well - none of it is actually Elton's voice.

This past weekend we saw The Intruder with Dennis Quaid. It was too long with a weird side story line and predictable.
We also saw John Wick 3. I had not seen the first two movies so I wasn't familiar with the back story and just how much action would be in the movie. I liked it enough to go back and see the first 2.
This weekend we're seeing Godzilla!!

Took my cheerleader dd to see Poms. Cute but definitely a "wait for the stream" movie. Kinda what I expected, but I just wanted to spend time with her. Glad it was at the dollar movie theater.

DH and I just saw Rocketman and loved it! Taron Egerton was amazing ~ hard to realize he played Robin Hood in the last RH movie! And this shows how much we didn't know about Elton ~ we thought he wrote his own lyrics! Amazing how the lyrics mirrored his life.
FTR we also loved Bohemian Rhapsody. Two totally different movies.

we thought he wrote his own music! Amazing how the lyrics mirrored his life. Elton did write his own 'music'...it was just the lyrics he didn't write, I always knew that though and knew and that Bernie Taupin wrote the words, however I always imagined it as them sitting down together and collaborating and writing the words and music at the same time...it was a surprise to find out that wasn't how they did it. But that's one of the things I loved about this movie so much...whoever's this creative vision it all was managed to pull it off perfectly...many of the lyrics don't relate to Elton's life at all, and are about something totally different, but they managed to take his popular songs that we all know and somehow put them into the movie in a way that does tell Elton's story. Take the song Rocket man as an example, Taupin wrote that in the late 60s based on a short story, yet in the film the used it to portray Elton's lowest point of drug and alcohol abuse many years later, but it wasn't written about that at all. I think it was risky to use songs like that, but it definitely paid off. You come away thinking that these songs were written about certain points in Elton's life, but they weren't all. I think that's creative genius to tie it all together like that.

After Googling him I realized he did write some lyrics but Taupin wrote most of them. It was very creative the way the movie tied it all together.

Oh, and seeing the previews for Downton Abbey on the big screen made my heart happy! The scene with Lady Mary and Carson brought tears to my eyes. And the music ~ just joyful to hear again.

I haven't see a movie in the theater for maybe a year or two (that I can remember), but I do want to see this one. I am also thinking about Pets2. The first one was much better than I thought it would be.

We enjoyed Aladdin. I thought Will Smith did a good job, I found myself a little distracted by the fact it was Will Smith if that makes sense. My 14 year old said she preferred "the other guy" meaning Robin William version of the song Never Had a Friend Like Me.

I felt the same way about Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson in Marley & Me. I would have rather seen unknown actors in that movie as for some reason it distracted me.

Just got back from seeing Aladdin ~ we both loved it! Well, except for the 3-ish old little boy sitting on the lap of the person next to me. He had on the shoes that light up so he kept flailing his legs and a light show would commence. She finally took him out. The movie is not for a small child.
Back to the movie ~ the parrot, the monkey, the tiger and the carpet were awesome. The humans were awesome too ~ Will Smith was great. The princess and Aladdin were beautiful.
