I went to an advance screening of Richard Jewell this last week. Go see this movie!!! Paul Walter Hauser played the part of Richard Jewell so beautifully. I was so happy for him when he finally got mad at what was done to him. I loved Sam Rockwell as well.
The FBI massively screwed him over and the media railroaded him. He was guilty in the court of public opinion even though he did not do it!!!
It opens in select cities December 13 and nationwide in January.

I am going to see this, I was at the park the night of the bombing (and actually had been sitting right where the bomb was about 30 minutes prior to it going off - only left the seat because my friend was hungry so we went seeking something to eat.) Also, Richard Jewell lived 5 miles from me and everyday when going to and from work, I had to drive through all the media vans and crowds of reporters. We are going to a screening Tuesday - I am really looking forward to seeing it.

We saw Dark Waters this week and it was so good. Really interesting movie about Dupont and how they knowingly poisoned the water supply of a town in WV for years.

Saw Richard Jewell today, it was tough in places since I was at the park that night and had actually been seating on those benches, but left before the bombing (thank goodness) and I lived a few miles from Richard Jewell and passed his apartment and the media circus every day.
The editor of the Atlanta Journal was there after the movie and did a Q & A with the audience (trying to have some good PR since they are not shown in a positive light in the movie)
Good movie and great acting

My husband decided to watch 6 underground on Netflix. I was horrible and loud and Ryan Reynolds is just playing a lame Deadpool

Dh and I watched the Irishman. Very different talk on mobsters. W/o giving it away, who knew that Joe Pesci could play a calm, reasonable mobster? It was slow to start, but got very interesting as it went along. It's a feature film, but made for Netflix.

We saw Dark Waters this weekend, and it was excellent! Richard Jewell is on my list to see this winter. I remember following the story and feeling like it was a slam dunk to find him guilty based on media reports. The truth was never as highly publicized as the false narrative wa, and even though he was cleared by authorities, the court of public opinion always seemed to think he had something to do with it.

We saw Richard Jewel last night. I really liked it. It’s shocking how easy it is for the wrong person to be accused.

It’s shocking how easy it is for the wrong person to be accused. Shocking and scary. Although the movie did explain well as to why the FBI considered him a suspect (he really did fit the profile) but seems like they knew early on that he couldn't have done it (at least not alone).

I’d like to see Richard Jewel. The trailer looks intriguing although so sad. I know he unfortunately died at a young age, but does anyone know if he was compensated somehow after this terrible fiasco (or maybe that’s addressed in the movie and is therefore a spoiler)?

After a little googling I found that several different media outlets settled cases brought against them by him.

Just got home from Knives Out! It was so much fun! Daniel Craig's southern accent sounded so much like Frank Underwood from House of Cards! I think. I know it reminded me of someone. my DH and I saw this over the weekend... he wanted to see it more than Ford vs. Ferrari, so this is the one we went to. He was really enthusiastic about it, which is actually out of character for him. I thought it was mildly amusing, but really, I didn't think it was all that great. (and I didn't like Daniel Craig's accent... it really DID sound like Foghorn Leghorn, to me... lol) I think it was more like a $2.99 on Demand rental movie rather than worth the movie theater matinee price, in my opinion. My problem with it was that I couldn't figure out if it wanted to be a full-on comedy, or not... it wasn't quite funny enough (IMO) if it did, but it certainly wasn't a very suspenseful mystery, either. I really want to see Dark Waters. (and I still want to see Ford vs. Ferrari... )

I’d like to see Richard Jewel. The trailer looks intriguing although so sad. I know he unfortunately died at a young age, but does anyone know if he was compensated somehow after this terrible fiasco (or maybe that’s addressed in the movie and is therefore a spoiler)? At the Q & A after the movie (with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper). They said that his mom was compensated by the FBI for $2,300 (for her Tupperware) and that Jewell did sue several media outlets. They didn't discuss the outcomes of other cases but said that the lawsuit with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) went on for 15 years (he died before it was resolved). They said that in the end, the judge dismissed the case because at the time the story was reported, the facts were accurate and true.
Someone asked, yes, but did the AJC ever formally apologize to him or his family. The AJC rep. answering the questions, said "No, we were advised by our attorney's not to do so" - someone followed up - AFTER the litigation was over, did you apologize, you ruined this man's life?! - They said "He had passed after before the case was dismissed" so there was no one to apologize to. It was then followed up with "you could apologize to his mother" and they said "I think this question has been answered" and then they moved onto the next question.
So...to answer your question, he wasn't compensated by the FBI or the AJC but I don't know about other media that may have been sued. None of that is addressed in the movie.

We just got back from seeing Star Wars. We liked it a lot. I won't say much more because I don't want to give anything away. One humorous note is that DH, who isn't a big fan but goes with us anyway, asked if Kylo Ren and Rey are brother and sister.

we just saw knives out a couple of days ago... I thought it was a fun "cozy" murder mystery.. both of us liked it .. we saw star wars yesterday and though it had holes in the plot it was fast paced and satisfying... want to see it again.

We just back from seeing Uncut Gems. Wow. I don’t even know what to think of the movie. I still need to process it. The opening was ... odd. The beginning felt like it was all over the place. If you’re offended by f-bombs (I’m not), skip this movie. Lots of them. Would love to hear others’ opinions of this movie.

My younger daughter and I saw "Little Women" and very much enjoyed it. This version flashes forward and back in time, giving the backstory, which might be confusing to new viewers. Both of us are English majors and we've been to Orchard House, so we loved it.

I watched Suspiria on Amazon, it's awful. Tilda Swinton is great as usual but Dakota Johnson is annoyingly blank through the whole thing.
We watched 6 Underground and liked it, it's loud and stupid but it's a Michael Bay film so...

We watched The Two Popes on Netflix tonight. It was very good, and interesting. I liked it a lot. I am not sure what the point of it was though?

I haven't seen a movie in ages. You've got me intrigued by the Richsrd Jewell movie; I never realized he wasn't guilty. It does show how powerful media messaging can be, because I have trouble wrapping my brain around the idea he didn't do it.

I don't want to pay full price but I totally want to see Cats to confirm if it's as bad as the reviews suggest

I don't want to pay full price but I totally want to see Cats to confirm if it's as bad as the reviews suggest We saw Cats last night and both quite enjoyed it. I really think that a lot of the people writing the bad reviews had no idea of the original musical - the comments about lack of plot and 'just cats singing' for example. Well, that is exactly what the stage show was. It is based on poems, not a novel and is about cats coming out to roam the streets of London at night. I also didn't think the CGI was that bad, though I've heard they did some updating between the original release and Christmas, so we may have seen the updated version. It is not groundbreaking, or thought-provoking or anything like that. Just 2 hours of dancing and singing cats.

If you love the musical, you will hate it or hate parts of it. If you hate the musical, I think you will hate it. If you can go in and just watch it for what it is, not what it could should be. And you like Cats, you might enjoy it. There are some fantastic performances, and almost worth it to hear/see Jennifer Hudson singing Memory.

We saw Bombshell and really liked it. THe long list of famous actors playing Cameo's was bit over the top, a bit distracting.
John Lithgow as Roger Ailes was an amazing and creepy performance.
Margot Robbie I thought was perfect, and Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman were both excellent.

We saw Star Wars today! I liked it, so did the kids and hubs. I thought it was a tad long, and that they needed some kind of unique furry friend that stayed on the screen for longer than a few seconds. 😉. We did love the one little robot fixer guy though. 😁
