Saw the movie Ambulance at the theater today. Didn't get stellar reviews but we enjoyed it. Lots of violence, blood, etc. but it was a wild ride! We went to see it a few weeks ago and was surprised how much we enjoyed it. The story line has holes you could drive an ambulance through but, it was great fun. We LOVED Top Gun, and I don't care what anybody says; I LOVE Tom Cruise We went to a theatre where the seats move with the action which made it even more enjoyable to watch. We are going back to see it again, this time with our older grand-kids. I think they'll really enjoy the experience. They filmed Top Gun at my nephew's base in San Diego. He (my nephew) was in a lot of background scenes with other military folks but I think his got cut out (too cute to be in the same frame as Tom Cruise). The movie crew built the bar from the movie on the beach, where it was for months and when they were done filming the navy men were hoping the bar would stay, but it did not. Anyway, they were getting ready for the scene where Tom pays his bar tab and my nephew figured out that this particular empty seat was where Tom was going to sit, so he grabbed the seat next to it and yes, Tom sat right next to him during filming. So I do think my nephew's arm made the movie. All in all, it sounds like the guys on base had a great time with the movie crew.

My BIL was CO of the squadron where they filmed a lot of the inside shots of the original at Miramar Navel Station. There is a bulletin board in a hallway that made the cut and it says *Have a Bandit day*. My sister happened to see Tom Cruise in the parking lot and chatted with him for a while. She said he was extremely polite and my niece wanted to know if she invited him to dinner.

He was stationed in San Diego about 5-6 years ago, that's how long it took them to put the movie out.

watch Horizon (kevin costner movie) at the theaters. it was good. lots of stories that will converge at some point. looking forward to part 2 in august and hopefully part 3 next year. hopefully there is a part 4 (as costner has planned) if the studios green light it.

Quiet Place Day One was a dud. Some very slow parts, nothing like the others.

I saw that Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 44% and our paper's critic gave it 1 1/2 stars out of 4. I'm glad you liked it, maybe now we'll go see. I do hate movies that are over 3 hours though.

Quiet Place Day One was a dud. Some very slow parts, nothing like the others. I just saw it this weekend and was underwhelmed. My friend saw it and was sobbing at the ending and I'm like, I must have a heart of stone because I didn't feel that way at all.

I saw Thelma last week. It was pretty cute. Lots of laughs. When 93-year-old Thelma Post gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she sets out on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her.

We saw Horizon this weekend. The three hours flew by. It was really good, but felt like a mishmash of James Michener’s Centennial (the book is about CO, not Montana) and Yellowstone.
Violence on the level of Killers of the Flower Moon, Yellowstone etc…
A whole lot of “set up” and no climax, resolution etc. It was really good and it looks like the story will be really interesting, with lots of complex characters. I think Chapter 2 releases in August?

We saw "Something to Stand For" - the Mike Rowe movie. We're big fans of him and his podcast. It was really interesting but I didn't feel like it was worth the $30 for 2 tickets. The reviews are overwhelming positive. Has anyone else seen it?

Quiet Place Day One was a dud. Some very slow parts, nothing like the others. I'll be generous and give Quiet Place a 3/5. Boo.. Our paper gave Horizon a 'D'. I watched Smile today in anticipation of part 2 coming out in October. Scary!

I do hate movies that are over 3 hours though. it went pretty fast. i think the critics didn't like it because it introduced a bunch of storylines that will converge later on in parts 2,3,4. the title of the movie is kind of a metaphor as well as an actual destination. it has a great ensemble cast and you want to know more about their back story. even with 3+ hours, there simply wasn't enough time to really get into it in this first. that's for the other parts and people just have to be patient. costner is basically cramming an entire series into movie form. but we like westerns, ensemble casts, etc so we enjoyed it.

but we like westerns, ensemble casts, We do too! Lonesome Dove is one of my favorite mini-series from back in the day. The scene in the river with the snakes still haunts me!

papersilly - how violent was Horizon? I want to see it. I can handle some violence, but not like a LOT. i'm a bit desentized to tv and movie violence so my perspective may be off. let's just say that the movie is a western with some scenes of hostile native american and pioneer interactions. there are scenes that you know are hauntingly real for it's time. for me, that was a bit tougher to watch than a modern day action flick with tons of machine guns, martial arts a$$ kicking, and more graphic violence. KWIM?

We've seen a few movies recently:
Madam Web (on Netflix, maybe?) - my DH and I both hated it. He is a paramedic and could not stand the ambulance/paramedic scenes; they were egregiously inaccurate. Shutter Island - This is a 2010 film but we both really liked it! I thought the acting was great and I never felt like the movie was dragging. GhostBusters Frozen Empire - I give this one 3/5 stars. We rented it at home and I'm glad we didn't pay to see it in theaters. I like the actors and I thought there were a few really funny lines, but overall, the pacing and storyline were a bit off for me. The Way Way Back - Another older film (2013) but my DH and I both loved it. Stellar cast, great storyline, and we liked the relationship between the main character and some of the secondary characters.

If you want to see a harrowing take on someone taking revenge on professional scammers, watch The Beekeeper with Jason Statham! Be warned, it's not for the faint of heart.

Thanks - I appreciate your response. I'm kind of on the fence. I watch Yellowstone so I guess if it isn't any worse than that show, maybe I can handle it. yellowstone definitely had some violent scenes like when Beth was attacked, also the season finale when the whole family and ranch was attacked, and some other moments here and there. i think as a director, kevin costner doesn't throw in gratuitous or prolonged violence just for shock value. violence in the western frontier was just a fact of life. it was a wild time and lawless territory because of how vast is was. i think if you like yellowstone, you will like this movie.

We saw Horizon this afternoon. It was Dh, DS and me. The first 1/3 of the movie was really confusing and the actors mumbled a lot. (Maybe it was all the fake facial hair.) I thought it was just me since we're used to watching every thing with closed captions but DH and DS agreed. I really had no idea what was going on in parts of it. It got more interesting and easier to figure out the last half. I can see why it wasn't rated higher than it was. And throughout the movie I was trying to figure out who all the actors are that look so familiar!!
We'll probably go to part 2 in August.

I saw Longlegs last weekend and while it was scary, I don’t think it quite lived up to the hype. I wanted to be extremely scared but then again I have a high threshold for horror.
The premise is original and Nicholas Cage is suitably creepy. I want to see it again when it comes out in streaming to see some things I may have missed.

Has anyone seen Twisters yet? It seems like it has been a long while since there has been something I wanted to watch in the actual theater.
We went back to Covid times and did an outdoor movie about a month ago and watched the original Twister with friends. Good way to get ready for the next one!
I am also interested in the new Gladiator with Pedro Pascal. Loved the original and this one looks really good!
