Just saw Star Trek Beyond. We're not Trekkies by any stretch but still enjoyed it. We watched the TV show back in the 60's and still laugh at the fake rocks and sets. We saw it today too, and really enjoyed it. My DH is somewhat of a Trekkie, I'm not, but I believe I've seen all the movies and several iterations of the TV show. The effects were well done and the characters endearing.

My guys and I decided to go see Ghostbusters this past Saturday. We laughed throughout the movie. We enjoyed the characters, the storyline, the effects, it stayed true to the original Ghostbusters formula. Enjoyed the special guest appearances. I especially enjoyed the, "Who's the flying beefcake" line referring to Chris Hemsworth's Thor character. Funny! Family friendly. I can't wait to see the next film...if there is one. And the popcorn was pretty good, too!

I thought Ghostbusters was very entertaining, and I appreciated that it was equally an action movie and a comedy. And of course, I stayed until the very end, which is important. I also tweeted in support of Leslie Jones and all the shit that is being sent her way. I never tweet anything, but I was so upset by the mean things that trolls were tweeting to her that I just needed to send her more support. I thought all the homage to the original GB was fun too.

A whole new generation of Trekkies are being made with that movie I think.

I went to Lights Out last Friday. If you like scary (not gory) movies, you will probably enjoy it. Thumbs up from me. Even though it is PG 13, IMO it is definitely not for children due to the scare factor!!

I took my daughter to Ghostbusters for a belated birthday. This is the review she posted on Facebook. She has high functioning Autism and zero filters! I mostly agreed with her. I saw the new Ghostbusters, and guys- I just don't get it. The attitude about the movie is so bad we were the only ones in the theater for the 3D showing- on a $5 Tuesday. ***I tried explaining to her the movie theaters are virtually empty for most matinees. I guess she did not believe me***No, it isn't the original, but it was funny. It stood out. There really was some good acting. Chris Hemsworth was like the main reason I went TBH (he looks HOT in glasses, OK?!) and I was pleased. It was funny. Lots of humor. The worst part was the redone theme song, but they had the original featured near the beginning. Yes, a lot of the cast was from SNL, but that doesn't make them any less of actors. SNL is hilarious! I liked the acting. There were some actual parts where I jumped because, ghosts. Yes, the idea of ghosts spitting slime was silly, and ghosts definitely don't look like that (I'm a believer, sue me), but it was a movie, never meant to be a SERIOUS film about the paranormal but funny, so I shrugged it off. It was JUST A MOVIE. Furthermore, it highlights women. Instead of the woman being portrayed as dumb and clueless, it was reversed, and Kevin the secretary (Chris Hemsworth.... 😍) was the dumb one. Not the women. Everyone is mad that Leslie Jones' character wasn't a scientist and that apparently she was a stereotypical black woman in New York, being all tough. She WAS tough- independent tough. Smart tough. She knows everything about New York. So she wasn't a scientist. She had her own skills. The acting was good, OK? Kate McKinnon was incredible. IDK why, but her eccentric behavior reminds me of Harley Quinn. Getting past this... It was a film that featured strong, smart women. One of the themes most overlooked was about bullying, and how others treat people. I won't spoil anything, but it resonates. Even when no one believed in them, the Ghostbusters kept going. It struck a chord. Everywhere, in this world, every day, someone is told they aren't good enough. They're made fun of. And this movie showed how the Ghostbusters- and even Kevin, who really began to try hard to do better at his job- kept going. They worked hard. They pushed. And in the end, they got people to believe in them. And while there was still those who doubted them, it was those who believed that made all the difference. We need to stop whining about how everything is being remade. Yes, it's annoying. But give the movie a shot. Try to look past the original movie, try not to judge, and just try to enjoy! There's a lot of humor and acting plus WONDERFUL messages to take away from this movie. I have four words: Give it a shot. As for the Jumanji reboot- I’m not going there. That is too far. ::giggle:: I totally agree with your review. It was SO refreshing to see a comedy that wasn't full of sophomoric, mean-spirited "humor". For me, this has been a great summer for comedy with Central Intelligence and now Ghostbusters.

Last week week we took the granddaughters (10, 7, 6) to see The Secret Life of Pets in 3D (good god was that expensive). We all enjoyed it.
This week the DH and I went to see Free State of Jones, sometimes I just go to these movies cause the hubby wants to, but I really enjoyed this movie.

Love her review! And I agree with her. When I first saw they were rebooting this movie, I was excited because of the cast. Then I was horrified at the vitriol and misogynistic things being said (and later racist rants directed at Leslie Jones) and decided that unless this movie had a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, I was going to support it. Despite being PG-13, what I had read/heard was that it was okay for younger kids and my husband and I took our eight year old daughter to see it. We all enjoyed it, particularly my daughter who said it was amazing and awesome (I particularly loved Kate McKinnon). Part of my enjoyment of it stemmed from watching my daughter enjoy it. I love that we were all able to go see a movie with four female leads who were smart and kick ass. And although it was more pseudo-science than actual science, it was still showing women in a lab, inventing, researching, and being smart (at one my point my daughter whispered to me "protons!"). I love that the women were just themselves - they weren't sexed up and wearing slutty Ghostbuster costumes (waiting for that to hit Halloween stores), weren't worrying about how to get the guy (except for Kristin Wiig eyeing Chris Hemsworth - can't begrudge her that, lol), or waiting for a guy to come save them. I hope the movie does well and we'll continue to see more movies with strong female leads.

I just saw Sing Street on dvd. It was thoroughly entertaining. It takes place in 1985 and is about a fifteen year old boy whose parents are on the verge of divorce. They pull him out of private school and enroll him in an inner city public school. Looking for escape, and to get a girl's attention, he forms a rock band. The characters are adorable and the 80s music is great. I'd give it four out of five stars and highly recommend it.

I love summer movies! We saw the Jason Bourne movie just a bit ago. I liked it-but I am SUCH a boy sometimes and love all those blow 'em up, shoot 'em up, beat 'em up movies. If someone is looking for a deeply (or even moderately) intellectual movie, this probably isn't for them...but I liked it just fine. (and not only that, but it sure is nice to see the main characters in these types of movies around my age or older. All those young whippersnappers who think that the minute you turn 35 you can't be Billy Badass anymore...I love all the movies proving other wise. )

We saw Bourne last night. It's a simpler plot than past versions and filmed in a different style. It was good to have Matt Damon return.
We were late buying our tickets, sat a little too close to see the action scenes. Further back would have been better., especially with so much deliberately blurred. I'm now an expert on Timmy Lee Jones pores.

Went and saw Bad Moms today and loved it!
I laughed so hard thru out it especially when MK was getting ready for going out and they used Kristen Bell's hoodie as a uncircumcised penis omg so hilarious.
I really liked the soundtrack too!
The previews for Office Christmas Party, Masterminds, and Keeping Up With The Jones look really funny.

Went to Hunt for the Wilderpeople yesterday. It was made and filmed in New Zealand. It is a comedy/drama rated PG 13, I believe. The story is about a child and his foster father who are wandering in the mountains of New Zealand.
If you like quirky and artsy movies, this may be one you enjoy. I dragged dh to this...he is normally more the Jason Bourne type but he enjoyed it as well. Cute movie!

I really liked Suicide Squad! I honestly wasn't expecting it to be very good, but my son is a diehard fan of all things Marvel/DC, so I went with him. Jared Leto was good as the Joker, the Squad was fun, and I am betting right now we're going to see a plethora of Harley Quinn costumes this Halloween.
