I saw Longlegs last weekend and while it was scary, I don’t think it quite lived up to the hype. I wanted to be extremely scared but then again I have a high threshold for horror. The premise is original and Nicholas Cage is suitably creepy. I want to see it again when it comes out in streaming to see some things I may have missed. We saw Longlegs last weekend..it was creepy and strange but it definitely did not live up to the hype for me. The local paper had given it an A rating so i guess I expected more. Some people love it though! Not a spoiler but just in case... Nicholas Cage was unrecognizable so it could have been anyone playing that character, imo. And I definitely will not watch it again lol!

I agree with you for the most part but I think only Nic Cage could pull off that level of creepy. He's kind of creepy even when he isn't in character! I know how you felt though - it was a bit of a let down.

Has anyone seen Twisters yet? Saw it today and really liked it. I'm in DFW so not far from "tornado alley" which had it hit a little close to home for me. I've spent many hours cowering in the bathtub while the sirens were going off. It was fun to see at the theater with surround sound. I have a nice home theater set up but I think this one definitely deserves the cinema.

I saw Thelma last week. It was pretty cute. Lots of laughs. When 93-year-old Thelma Post gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she sets out on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her. I wanted to see it but it was only here for a week. I hope it comes to something I stream as I really thought it looked cute.

If you want to see a harrowing take on someone taking revenge on professional scammers, watch The Beekeeper with Jason Statham! Be warned, it's not for the faint of heart. OM goodness I loved that movie lol. But yes very violent.

DS wanted to see Inside Out 2 last week, and I really enjoyed it. Both as someone that struggles with anxiety and is raising a kid who struggles with it I thought it was really well done.
For those of you who enjoy podcasts, my favorite film podcast the CineFiles is revisiting Mash (the movie) as a tribute to Donald Sutherland. It had been years since I'd seen it so I spent the 3 bucks and rented it from Amazon. I enjoyed it, especially after having listened to the podcast.
I'm one of like 3 people who won't go see Twisters. I've lived in tornado alley too long to be interested in it, but I liked the original. I'm glad those who have seen it are enjoying it.

Cinemark is doing a 40 year 'celebration' thing and showing some old movies mid august. Check your local listings..Nightmare on Elm Street, Indiana Jones, Karate Kid, Footloose and some others..tickets $5 (I think)

I just got home from seeing Trap and it was a huge disappointment. It didn't get good reviews so I should have paid attention. M. Night lets me down again. It was basically a vehicle for his daughter who can't act and her music career. Save your money on this one.

Just got back from seeing Trap and we liked it. I mean it is not going to win any academy awards but it was a fun movie for something different.
I noticed on the reviews people either liked it or hated it.

I watched Brooklyn yesterday. We had seen it in the theater when it came out in 2015.
Young Irish immigrant Eilis Lace (Saoirse Ronan) navigates her way through 1950s Brooklyn. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland and the comfort of her mother's home for the shores of New York City. The initial shackles of homesickness quickly diminish as a fresh romance sweeps Eilis into the intoxicating charm of love. But soon, her past disrupts her new vivacity, and Eilis must choose between two countries and the lives that exist within.

We went to see the movie Trap today at the theater. From the reviews, we weren't expecting much, but with low expectations, sometimes it works! We were pleasantly surprised that it kept us engaged. Lots of loop-holes but overall, not a bad way to pass a couple of hours when it's hot outside. Plus

Plus This used to be the only reason I went to the movies some days. But now they sell huge bags, and I can bring it home and read or watch Netflix. LOL. I saw It Ends with Us a couple of weeks ago. I have never read a CoHo book, but I figured I'd like the movie. I was right. I really enjoyed it! Lisa

I read both It Ends with Us and It Begins with Us and loved them both. I don't think it would be a movie DH would enjoy so I might go to see it with a girlfriend.

So I have a half review of Alien:Romulus. I had my snack and drink and got comfy in the chair and fell asleep. Then I had to pee. Then my legs were super restless so I had to get up and ended up leaving the movie early because I was so distracted. I liked what I saw and will watch it again when it's streaming. Just a bad series of events!

DH and I nearly had an entire row to ourselves. We did watch the newest iteration of All Quiet on the Western Front on Netflix within the past month.

We used to go to a matinee every Tuesday. There just aren't that many good movies out these days. I think since Covid and the writer's strike it has been like that.
Anyway we went to see Lost on a Mountain in Maine which we had never heard of. We both enjoyed it.
