Local news broke in a little after nine and I've been watching all night. They were showing all kinds of unedited live footage and it was chaos. You could hear the shots live. The reporters and photojournalists who were in the middle of it were obviously distraught. I'm just sick. I don't understand why killing is ever the answer. And this one is so close to home. I'm in that part of Dallas frequently and know that area well. I pray that you didn't have any family or friends in that area this evening. Not that it's less awful when it happens elsewhere, but when it's in your back yard it's so much more "real".
Since it was a protest, I'm sure there was a lot of media already on site. What a horrid thing to witness.

Ugh, this is horrible. This type of shit does not help the situation. Exactly what I was thinking. This is horrible in so many ways.

I don't even know what to say. This is awful.
I hope those responsible are caught and get to spend the rest of their lives in prison for these stupid, senseless actions.

I understand there is lots of frustration with law enforcement. However, how is shooting these people helping? Until the weapons are put down and a serious conversation happens how can we start any healing and change? My heart hurts today for our country.

No one that I know personally. But I've been traveling for the last couple of days and hadn't been keeping up with the news. I didn't even know that there was a protest or about the other killings this week. It seemed to be mostly the rookie, younger reporters who were already on site when this started. They've brought the veterans in now, but one local channel abruptly cut off one of the veteran reporters who was becoming emotional and giving away too much information about the identity of the victims. Chief Brown says: Suspect cornered. Negotiating At least 2 snipers ambushed officers. 11 confirmed shot. Some shot in back. Two perches in parking garages downtown. Threatened to plant bomb downtown. Pics of suspects on Twitter. One civilian shot and wounded.

How senseless. My heart goes out to those families who's loved one isn't going home tonight. More violence isn't the answer.

They want to talk to this guy. I hope everybody shares it and someone recognizes him. Editor's note: Video taken by @dallasnewsphoto appears to show the person of interest identified by Dallas police among bystanders at the time of the shooting. Police said the gunmen were shooting from an elevated position, and the person of interest appears to be standing next to officers with his gun pointed down. An organizer of the Black Lives Matter protest told CBS DFW that the person in the photo was his little brother and that he gave his gun to authorities after the shooting before going home. - Jillian

Praying for the officers and their loved ones and everyone involved in this horrific situation. I wish we could wave a magic wand and make all of this hatred stop

I feel horrible for the families of the Dallas officers still on the scene. It must be horrifying to know they are there with active shooters possibly still in the area.

Because our genius lawmakers thought that was a great idea. Local CBS channel saying that he is the brother of one of the organizers of the protest.

Some of the shot are Dallas Police, some are DART, our public transportation system, police officers. This is just devastating.

He had better hope that thing hasn't been fired recently.

I'm heartbroken tonight as I'm watching all of this unfold. This is going to solve absolutely nothing.
My prayers go out to all of those that have lost loved ones in the last few days during all of this.
Just unreal. 🙏

They want to talk to this guy. I hope everybody shares it and someone recognizes him. I don't understand how this guy was walking around like this with police officers all over. Police were on the sidewalks as they marched, police were blocking off streets so they could march. How was he not approached? Maybe the gun is fake and he was just trying to make a statement? Maybe I'm being super naive. He's in custody now so I guess we will see.

I live in a Dallas suburb about ten minutes from downtown. I am just so sad that so many officers were shot and several killed tonight. I just drove by there today and saw the buildings where this tragedy has occurred. My daughter's boyfriend's mother is at a play in downtown Dallas. I hope she gets home quickly and safely but many roads are shut down.

The person of interest (in the photo) turned himself in. He could very well be completely innocent. I was about to go to sleep and was looking at Twitter and saw allisongrizz's video (the one all the news stations are now using). Not sure I can go to sleep. This week is just scary on so many levels. I wish I knew what to do to stop it.

I seriously don't know and want to understand.
