Just sending you love. May God wrap you in His comforting arms. Thank you. I still have nothing. 5 officers dead. Gone for nothing more than doing their job. Yes my husband was a police officer. Yes there is the occasional bad cop. But for those that question the integrity of all cops based on the actions of the few: after last night's perversity these brave men, all around this country, woke up this morning put on that uniform and pinned on that badge and stood the line. I find the bravery of those under fire absolutely awe-inspiring. In this instance, I heard several interviews of those attending the protest who said that when the gun shots were recognized, they ran away from where they thought they were coming from while the police officers ran towards the gunshots. You hear that about soldiers too. Takes all kinds of bravery to run into gunfire rather than away.

They do far more than "just a job". I'm sorry for your loss, and for you too, lucyg. I know it's especially close at times like this.

I had a hunch the shooter would be ex-military. I don't believe there are multiple shooters. They always think they are when something like this goes down they they determine it's not. I just can't imagine being organized enough to get someone to do that with you. linkThe shooter used the same gun the guy in Orlando did. "Today, Americans own at least a few million AR-15s and as many as eight million, according to the National Shooting Sports Foundation...AR-15 is how easily it can be disassembled. The gun can be taken apart and carried several miles in a backpack" linkYou are right. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings says they think the dead suspect was the lone attacker.

this has been a very weird day...we live just outside of Dallas (sadly in the town where the shooter lived), and I work in Downtown Dallas. Our office is on the east side of downtown, the shooting took place on the western side. There was a large part of downtown closed to all everyone but police, and I have heard that it may be closed most of the weekend.
going to work there was no traffic - hardly any which is very unusual. no issue getting into town, and almost no one in our parking garage. very few people going into the building at 8 am - again strange.
All day, noticed there were very few cars on the streets near us, very few people going to the museums down the street or at the park just beyond. all the lunch places near us were closed, or closing early. no one getting lunch. it was really quiet.
much more traffic leaving work, but still not as much as usual. the city was very quiet, not the city I know.
I sat in a conference room with co-workers and watched the interfaith service at noon, with city leaders, political and religious. very moving.
I am hurting for my city, and the Dallas area in general. The police in Dallas have a good relation with citizens, and the protest march was peaceful, most that have been held in the last several years have been that, without incident. the protest march wasn't the problem, it was a lone person who had an agenda.
tonight I pray for Dallas, I pray for people to wake up and realize that hate and violence are not the answer, we all people, and we need to find a way to get along, even if we don't always agree.
