Our prayers are with those in Dallas, for those whom protect and serve. Husband still walked out this morning ready to face the day. My heart tightens everytime the phone rings. Something needs to change!

We need a Martin Luther King type figure to help this county out. Someone who is for uniting, rather than dividing. Someone who stands up for injustice, but turns his back on violence. There are so many great King quotes that we could all do well to live by. Totally, instead I saw this calming influence... A former member of the US House of Representatives has declared “this is now war” in reaction to the death of five police officers in a shootout at a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas. Joe Walsh wrote on Twitter: “3 Dallas Cops killed, 7 wounded. This is now war. Watch out Obama. Watch out black lives matter punks. Real America is coming after you”. Mr Walsh, who served as an Illinois congressman from 2011 to 2013, quickly deleted his tweet. from this article www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/dallas-police-shooting-barack-obama-joe-walsh-twitter-warning-this-is-war-real-america-a7126301.html That gets you a meeting with the Secret Service doesn't it?

I'm sure more news will come out on this (since most "articles" are snips of tweets and I'm not able to watch videos at 4am), but is there a chance this is not directly related to the protest? That these were some guys who were planning to do something anyway and used the protest to make a point? Who makes up a bunch of bombs in less than a day? I'm hoping this is the case; hopefully there will be more info in the morning. I can't imagine the pain of those families right now. I don't think bombs, especially crude ones, are all that hard to make. My husband tells me that in college his freshman and sophomore years the chemistry profs they had taught them how to make bombs. This was pre 9/11 though. But I'm pretty sure if you google it explicit instructions on how to make them will pop up. There's even probably you tube videos with step by step instructions (there are for everything else). I do not recommend actually looking up how to make bombs though.

I don't know what the motive was--clearly, it was against the police. But I heard someone say last night that this was a very well planned and well coordinated attack. How could they have done that in just one day? Seems like they had it planned and we're just waiting for the right time to strike (completely speculation on my part).

As the wife of a LEO, I'm beyond terrified for my husband's life--now more than ever. This culture of name calling and us vs. them needs to stop NOW. There will always be those that don't want to follow the law and no amount of talking will change that, but I do think that there is so much more that can be done. I hope this rant made some sort of sense. I'm emotional and exhausted tonight, and terrified of what tomorrow will bring. Our prayers are with those in Dallas, for those whom protect and serve. Husband still walked out this morning ready to face the day. My heart tightens everytime the phone rings. Something needs to change! My heart hurts for all law enforcement families. I am so sorry.

The person of interest (in the photo) turned himself in. He could very well be completely innocent. I was about to go to sleep and was looking at Twitter and saw allisongriz's video (the one all the news stations are now using). Not sure I can go to sleep. This week is just scary on so many levels. I wish I knew what to do to stop it. As an update...he is/was innocent and was cleared and released. His name is Mark Hughes. He did an interview with a local news station after he left the precinct. He didn't know he was a 'suspect' until somebody called/texted him. He said he immediately walked up to an officer and identified himself.

And he KEEPS tweeting horrible stuff. "I wasn't calling for violence." Saying "Watch out Obama" certainly doesn't sound like calling for peace. Terrible. SaveSave

My thoughts and prayers are with every officer and their families who have lost loved ones in Dallas today, as well as the other officers around the nation who have to try to go about the business of serving us today with what I can only imagine must be heavy, heavy hearts, and with their families who have to let them do it.

Wtf! More proof that more guns just make EVERYONE less safe. I am so sad and angry and sick over all these incidents. The police officers in Dallas should never have been shot. No justification. No way, no how. And, it makes me sick that apparently having a concealed carry license and carrying if you are Black just means that some LEO feel that is all the justification they need to kill you. I just hate what guns are doing to our society. Right. This Hughes kid whose picture was spread around last night has a license to carry and had absolutely nothing to go with this. Everyone wants their second amendment rights until it's this guy. Then he has to turn over his legally carried gun so he's not shot too. It's all just so crazy. I'm not a fan of guns. But if you're allowed to carry then so is this guy.

It appears that the suspect they were in negotiations with said there is no affiliation with any group. He was ultimately killed by a controlled detonation.

Police Chief just said that the dead suspect was killed when a police robot detonated the bomb next to him. The only way to not put more officers' lives at risk.
During the stand off, he told the police negotiator that he was angry and wanted to kill police officers and particularly white police officers.
ETA
Not confirming how many suspects right now.

But if you're allowed to carry then so is this guy. This is where your prejudices get in the way. That guy did the absolute RIGHT thing and yet you complain his 2nd Amendment rights were infringed? If someone-witness, bystander whomever identified him as suspicious or odd, because he was carrying a gun, that was put on media to find, then he did the absolute right thing by walking up and identifying himself. When shit is as crazy as it was, and he's okay, police who met with him are okay, it's a win-win. They can now move on with other aspects of the shootings. While you will say "it was his right to open carry" which I won't argue--surely you are not so stupid to think that every.single.other.person in all of that chaos thought it was totally okay and normal to be in all that with a visible gun. The authorities every where beg people "if you see something, say something" and that's just what happened. The guy did the right thing and he's free to go. Especially in situations like this---no where does the second amendment state anything that those who do bear arms should not identify themselves, or argue, fight, antagonize authorities who are trying to temper down chaos like this. Smh.

I can't even express the rage I feel over this. These guys were just doing their jobs. They have wives, children and other loved ones. What kind of sickness says "well you killed one of ours, now let's really get even!" My heart just aches for the children whose daddies are not coming home tonight or ever again. And women. At least one of the wounded officers, shot twice, is a woman. They just showed her little girl on the news. I was stunned when I first heard about this incident this morning. It's high time we realize that ALL lives matter! Prayers being said for the victims and their families.

There are days when I am sort of sad that DH left LE and changed careers, but this is not one of those days. My heart hurts for the families of the slain officers and I pray for those officers who are still putting on the gear and going out to protect and serve.
For the pea LE families, I will say an extra prayer that your loved one comes home safe today and every day.

I don't even know what to say. I'm a cop's widow. I am so sick, I can barely type. May God show mercy upon these officers and their families. May those HE's taken tonight rest in eternal peace. These poor women and their poor children. What kind of sick animal thinks this is ok to ambush and massacre men doing their job. Thank you Megyn Kelly for having the class and compassion to not show the bodies of these brave men. Oh God there are just no words, none. Prayers for all my blue family tonight. May God have mercy. Just sending you love. May God wrap you in His comforting arms.

This is just me wondering out loud, since I am here alone. Fox News was just showing officers standing guard at a 7-11 that is closed. There were many people there that seemed to be taunting the officers. Why? What do they hope to gain from doing that? There is nothing to gain. What baffles me is that people are willing to spend so much energy on negative behavior, rather than doing something that will result in a positive change. Why can't communities (police and the citizens) work TOGETHER so that both sides have more understanding and can feel comfortable with each other? The way we're doing things now obviously isn't working, and it's just creating an even greater divide. We need something, or someone, that can start to bridge that gap. I'm not liberal and I'm not conservative, but I've seen virtually NO response or leadership from those that should be offering it. Change needs to start at the top before we can move forward, otherwise each city is just playing its own game and there is no unity. As the wife of a LEO, I'm beyond terrified for my husband's life--now more than ever. This culture of name calling and us vs. them needs to stop NOW. There will always be those that don't want to follow the law and no amount of talking will change that, but I do think that there is so much more that can be done. MSNBC is reporting a fifth officer has died. I think this is the first time since 9/11 (and probably for many years before that, too) that more than four officers have been killed in a single incident. Damn

My point was, that I was hoping that this attack on the police had nothing to do with the protests and just some other folks who took an opportunity during a peaceful protest to air their grievance against police. I don't like the idea of people planning against the police, but I also don't want to see protestors, who were being peaceful, blamed for something they didn't do.
Does that make sense? I hope I'm saying it better this time.

My heart is so heavy today. I can't even feel anger; I'm just sick to my stomach.
My prayers are with the families.
One sad thing; in order not to be threatening during the protests, the police did not wear bullet-proof vests. I hope that changes in the future. LEO need to do whatever than can to protect themselves.
