Really looking forward to seeing what everyone is working on this month especially the Hygge wrap CAL I'm loving what I'm seeing on FB so far. I'm still working on my ripple blanket, I really am the slowest crocheter! Do any knitters have a suggestion for an easy shawl? I really like this Arabella shawl but I'm not sure if it's too advanced for someone with basic knitting skills.

That Arabella Shawl is beautiful. I am about to start a knitted shawl (hoping to finish by Mother's Day). I'm going to knit the Crystal Lake Shawl using Downton Abbey yarn. My mom and I are big Downton Abbey fans and her name is Mary so when I give it to her for Mother's Day (assuming I finish it in time, I knit slow), I'm going to tell her that it is the "Lady Mary" shawl. Currently, I am testing a crochet pattern for a designer (will probably only take me through the weekend) and my sister-in-law requested a Slouchy Hat. I had to frog it - I was using a different pattern and hated the way the ribbing was coming out (it was a bottom up pattern) - so I am re-starting it using the pattern I linked, which is a top down pattern and I prefer that for crochet (but I like bottom up for knitting - go figure). I just completed a crochet set that a friend of a friend asked me to make for her. She selected the colors. I got all the patterns from Raverly (except the afghan, which is a basic granny square). It is a baby afghan with her name, a little poncho and a princess crown. I also made a couple of hats just because... Save

I finished working in the ends to my very utilitarian shawl. It was mostly completed last year. However, I was frustrated with it because the bind off turned out poorly. One end is wider than the other by about 6 inches.
I keep telling myself it doesn't matter. It was mindless knitting and it will still be something to keep my shoulders warm at home.
Also, I am about halfway through a scarf from a class I took. It is curling and tight. I don't know if it is the yarn or I did something wrong. The class sample was lovely. If I stretch mine out slightly it looks right. I don't know. I will take it to the shop and ask her. She mentioned steaming them. So maybe that is it.
And, I really need to get to work on the lap blanket that is meant for Dad. It's only 3 Christmases past when I intended to give it to him.
It's Spring Break next week. So I am hoping to finish the scarf.
I have two shawls in process too. However, I can't remember how to do a few of the stitches. They need to wait for summer.

lainey I would have thought that pretty shawl was eminently do-able with basic skills. I've not downloaded the pattern but it looks like mainly garter stitch with a bit of yarn overs and slip stitches maybe to make the holey bits. It says there is a video to go with it and I think the pattern is free so why not have a look at both and see how you feel about it? I'm loving all the Hygges on FB too. I think they all look so pretty. I'm beginning to wish I was doing pinks and greens now instead of autumn colours but too late! MsKnit maybe blocking will help. I need to get back to the mindless tedium of a tax return. I quite enjoy some of it but then there are other bits that make me want to stick pins in my eyes so I came here for some respite.

I'm watching the video and thinking it looks pretty easy, I was baffled by the shape but Very Pink Knits explains it very well. I think your Autumn colours are beautiful. I'm totally impressed with how people have gone their own way so much with the colours and cross stitch. Enjoy your tax return

Today I want to try to make a utility apron for a friend who has her first booth at a farmers market tomorrow. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Hopefully my design is as simple as I think it is.

I'm a newbie crocheted - I've started a ripple blanket, I'm not loving the colours but will persevere Hang on in there! Every ripple blanket I have made, i always doubt the colours but they turn out ok in the end. Something to do with the overall effect. I am still working on the Jessica Cardigan. I started it in DK yarn but it was coming up way too big so I ordered some 4ply and have been crocheting like a mad thing all week. Just got to the decreases on the back and it doesn't quite make sense to me so I have messaged the designer. Will see if she responds! And I think I will start working on the sleeves in thr meantime. Now, let's see if I can attach a photo...

Happy to see and read about what everyone is accomplishing. For me - nothing. One really can not cut sheets of glass in bed - which is where I've been the past 2 months. First month from a bad fall - second month from a DVT clot from the first problem.

Thanks, gale w. I go for my 3rd ultrasound on Monday so maybe I'll get good news. I so want back in my glass room and get a kiln fired up.

The utility apron came together very easily. I dropped it off to her and she loved it.

I am just rolling more beads. It is going to be about a month maybe two before I can really do anything ells. I am not a big fan of stopping and starting to make more beads.

I'm mainly knitting, as my scrapbook area has been turned into a guest room for the past week. I started a pair of socks for my son. These are part of a monthly challenge I am tring to keep up with this year - I missed January due to vacation, was a bit late finishing February (March 1, so not too bad) and these are for March. The theme is 'Nature' and the yarn color is 'Isarkiesel' - it means 'stones in the Isar', the Isar being the river that runs through Munich. I have also started a shawl which is the first project in a yarn club I am subscribed to this year. No pictures yet, as we have been asked not to for a couple of weeks, until all people have received their packages. I can say it is an awesome combination of color and pattern by the designer and the yarn dyer.

I tried the one you've linked, but ended up ripping it out. I just don't care for crochet ribbing.

I've broken both wrists (not at the same time), and it was awful not being able to craft. Hope you're back with your glass soon.

Slow Progress Sorry that's huge oops 🙄 The Cosy Stripe blanket - I made two of these last summer. I like the colors you chose and these blankets keeping getting better as they get bigger. I liked that this was an easy blanket to pick up and put down. My goal last summer was to just get a stripe done every morning as I watched the morning news, but June was incredibly rainy and I ended up getting so much more done. Keep up the good work. You picked a great blanket pattern for someone new to crocheting - easy enough, but interesting enough with all the color changes. You'll end up with a blanket that you love. SaveSaveSaveSave

Maybe you UK peas can help? I want to make a smallish blanket for James...maybe 30x50 inches...very approx...and I can't figure out how many 50g or 100g balls to use because I'm buying the wool online and can't see the band for info re stitched per sq inch etc. I'm wanting too use a super chunky yarn. Any ideas or am I being too vague?

Any ideas or am I being too vague? Knit or crochet? It will also depend a bit on the yarn content - different fibres will have different yardages per 50g. I'l have a bit of a look on Ravelry, and see if I can get a rough estimate.

Knit. Thank you sueg ...I keep going round in circles! From a quick look, it would appear that around 800-900m will get you about the size you want. You'd need to look at the yarn you like and see how many meters are in a ball, and work from there.

Any ideas or am I being too vague? For some reason it takes me forever to compute balls into finished work so I suggest you have a look on Wool Warehouse site as they list all the info on their pages. For example Bernat Baby Blanket yarn you can see the weight, the length of the ball and the tension square size. I think most of the big online retailers do this. You just need to convert your sizes to metric. ETA if you're not already a member, join Ravelry and search under baby blankets. There will be info on the individual projects there.
