I really hope she has this baby soon. April is making me crazy. That's all P.S. From viewing other giraffes being born, it seems like it takes about 30-60 minutes for the whole birth process once the hooves pop out. My chances of actually catching the birth as it happens seem pretty slim. If I miss it, I'll really be a crazy person then, lol.

I don't know if this has already been posted, but here's a Q&A with the park's owner. I found it to be really interesting.

-- she will also stand occasionally with one of her back feet raised off the ground for a minute or so- I don't think she was doing that before, either. This. I got so excited the first time I saw it. And then nothing happened lol.

The live feed is simply a ploy to get us to click on the site, through which microwaves are recording our every move.

I'm glad she finally made it down to the floor; I was really rooting for her!! (it sure looks to me like she's having contractions, but... how long before the baby comes!?! I don't want to miss it after all this time waiting, darn it!)

Anyone watching right now? She seems to be breathing funny and there's lots of belly activity. Or am I just imagining it?

5:00 a.m. east coast time, still no baby. sigh.... I check first thing when I get up every morning, expecting to see a baby. But nope. Like I said, I think the whole thing is made up, the video is fake, etc.

She is very tall (duh, yes I know giraffes are tall but the perspective is hard to tell lol)...someone just came into clean and they barely cleared the top of the gate to the other pen so that gate must be taller than what I thought!

Absolutely same thing I thought! First time I watched I was like oh wow she's a small giraffe. Then the next day I actually saw the keeper come in, lol, not so small anymore. Haha ETA: Don't forget to make sure you're watching the live feed, it'll say live in corner. I went to the linked video on the this thread and thought wow the lights are off early. Lol. Whoops, that's not the live video. I usually just go to the fb page animal adventure park and the current live video is always bookmarked close to the top of page (just a few scrolls down) if anyone else is interested in watching.

Facebook Update...
3/15 Evening Report
What a day! Staff has finally been able to return to their homes, rest their heads, and relax. We return tomorrow to continue to dig out - with a little help from our friends!
April has thankfully, continued to remain in current condition. Vet report today suggests we should begin watching for a shift in calf position/and belly carry from low to back. This would suggest movement into place for birthing.
Tomorrow will be stall cleaning, some shared space time, and another FB LIVE update (at some point) from the property to show just how much snow we have!
We have a park to open in 2 months, and we get 3' of snow! Let me be the first to say "Ain't Nobody Got Time For That" - in the words and delivery of Sweet Brown! (If you don't know Sweet Brown - you should! Google Her)

Animal Adventure Park Facebook Update
3/16 Morning Update
What a long evening! Many of you were up with us around 1:30 am EST and the following hours, and witnessed some very interesting behavior that had us on edge. Though, this morning, all has seemed to settle. We will continue to watch and monitor throughout the day.
Today will bring another day of snow movement and dig out from storm Stella. We do expect to go Facebook LIVE at some point, to show you the amounts of snow and to answer questions!
So, today, instead of your supportive comments, please ask a question that you would like answered! We will tackle as many as possible in a short time frame!
Yes, our Giraffe Cam is also seeking an additional sponsor to jump start our initiative to support Giraffe Conservation. As we have stated from day one, the naming contest will support wild population conservation, but a new giraffe cam sponsor can get that ball rolling before our baby is on the ground. A third of the sponsorship will go towards Conservation efforts by supporting an organization we believe to have set up a relationship with in Africa (that should be confirmed and announced later today), A third to our annual Ava's Little Heroes Event & Fund to help children with unexpected medical emergencies, and the balance for the continued care of our animals at the park.
There is no valuation on this set by us (current valuations are media derived), so - lets see what good we can do!
Giraffe Factoid of the day: KEEP YOUR EYE ON WILD GIRAFFES Scientists and conservationists believe there to be less than 100,000 giraffes left in the wilds of Africa. THAT, is a scary thing!

Still pregnant. And just now she was looking right into the camera with that cute look that giraffes have up close, almost as if she's saying "haha are you *still* there?"

I have cows, and recently I had one that was ready to calve. I mean ALL the signs were there. I penned her up, gave her lots and lots of extra good food, got up at night to check on her...NOTHING. THREE weeks of that!!! She was playing us, I think. She finally had the baby, but dang - I was tired of waiting.
Something to pay attention to - they seem to calve around the full and new moon, so April might calve this week, since the full moon was this past weekend.

Also. My youngest was a little naughty right before her birth. She would act like she was ready, I'd have contractions for a few hours, then nothing for several days. Turned out she kept flipping out of position. I don't know if giraffes can do that but it sure makes me feel bad for April. I know what she's going through lol.

^^^ I know, right? There can't be much room in there anymore for that baby! I was watching for a few minutes yesterday, and she was standing stock still... then all of the sudden she JERKED and turned her head to look down / back towards her backside. I figure she had just gotten kicked by the baby, or it pressed against her bladder or something there for a second!

I have never seen her lying down for so long. She shifts positions, but has been "down" for the past few hours. Usually it is about 20-30 minutes or so.
