True confession time! What scrapbook habits do you have that you know would make other scrapbookers cringe? I'll start. I hereby confess that I'm terrible at putting dates on my pages. What makes it worse is I don't scrapbook chronologically, so you can't guess a date by looking at the pages around it in the scrapbook. I know, I know, I'm trying to do better. I just dated a bunch of pages before I put them away.
O.K., your turn. Make me feel better about my bad habits by confessing some of yours.

I file my pages into my books chronologically, but I have gaps between finished pages that are just the plastic page cover with a handful of photos chucked into it. A page full of good intentions, ha! I have a lot of those

I rarely journal.
I mostly scrap posed, planned pictures from professional photo shoots.
I don't have anything to say about them.
There's no story behind them except "I had this idea for a book I wanted to create and needed pictures to carry it out."
I don't see these pictures as memories that need to get preserved. They are an element of my art, just like the paper and the paint and the fabric.

I mostly use one photo per page. I freehand cut most of my papers and stuff. I adore decorative-edge scissors and use them on almost every page -- usually to cut around my photos!!!

The worst thing I ever did scrap wise was at a crop where I planned to work on a friend's wedding album. After a handful of layouts, I hated how it was turning out, the papers, embellishments, etc. so I took it all apart, salvaged what I could and called it a day. Unfortunately, it was a weekend crop and I didn't have a back up plan. On an ongoing basis, I think that I just stick things down without a plan in mind so I basically make it work on a lot of my layouts.

If I don't incorporate the date into the layout, then I write it on the back, because I rarely use the back side of the paper since I don't necessarily scrap in chronological order, but I put them into the finished scrapbook that way.

I scrap in no order but like to file my layouts in chronological order. I try to use two sided paper so if I have an empty page at least it looks good!

I took a partially completed page and filed it away with paper . Eventually all the parts were put away. Where are the photos ? What did I do with the unglued parts.?
I made a page 12x13 page. It has a layered border with faux stitching. It was meant to be 12x12 but I refuse to try to fix it. I love it how it is but it will never go into a book the way it is. It was completed 6 years ago and sits on a shelf under some photo storage boxes. I may someday take a close look and fix it, or not?

I make myself cringe with the way I actually scrapbook, stuff everywhere, using a tiny area. I use those adhesive squares that you need to pull the backs off of, not a runner. I need to do trial runs of things, I use scraps and stuff, but I waste a lot of time and paper. I'm sure there are many more

I start adhering things without having a complete LO planned...and then I rip it up if I need to change it. Sometimes that goes well, sometimes it does not. LOL
This actually made me cringe - but a couple of weekends a go, while working on a gift album, I scrapped with the recipient's sister and step-mom. They scrapped originals. They ended up coming with boxes and boxes of photos and they were actually glad just to get the ones they used out of the boxes and didn't are if they were originals or not. I did have clear photo corners with me, so I did insist that they use those on the professional photos. But, funnily enough, even though I did cringe, I've been scrapping so long, and seeing photos in boxes for so long, that I got over using originals very quickly. They had had those photos for years and the likelihood that the photos would ever see the light of day again are pretty darn slim.

I use glue sticks! But only for smooth paper on smooth paper - otherwise it doesn't stick well. And I don't use them on photos - I use photo squares for those!
I scrap original photos! I do not cut them up, and I do make sure they are removable in case I want to scan & copy them, but I see no point in leaving them in boxes.
I don't worry if paper or embellies are acid free are archivally safe. I scrap original newspaper articles too!
I mat my photos - almost all the time!
I'm sure there's more, but those are things I know people have talked about!

I rarely journal, and the stories really aren't my motivation for scrapbooking. Recent I literally wrote on the back "Grandpa day. Lego movie. Cici's pizza", but I still have a blank journaling block on the layout. I never date my layouts I don't scrap chronologically I don't always put away my layouts chronologically I use Tombo adhesive for everything and I pierce my paper with a sewing needle.

If I see cool paper--wrapping paper, candy wrapper, whatever--I use it. I don't care if it's archival.

Awesome topic for a thread, OP!
I do a lot of cringeworthy things.
I don't care if the paper and embellies are archival. The book could be lost tomorrow in a flood. I don't care if it lasts forever and ever. I just want it to last for as long as I live.
I'm not creative enough. Many of my pages look similar.
I am also not spendy enough. I have a limited amount of tools to use, and often create my own embellies. Which also lends a hand in making my pages all look similar.
I use a lot of cardstock, so sometimes my layouts don't have a lot of pizazz as they would with using a lot of patterned paper.
Sometimes when I am able to buy patterned paper, I over use it, and my layout is too busy.
Sometimes I go flower-happy, and it's the floral version of sticker sneeze. And I'm okay with that.

I use those adhesive squares that you need to pull the backs off of, not a runner. Not only do I use those same adhesive squares, I have trouble getting the backs off if I apply them directly to the photos. So as I pull the little tape and the tabs pop up, I stick them on my fingers. So much easier to remove the backing and stick them on the photos. My daughters used to laugh at me that I just added "finger oil" to my acid free adhesive squares . But I won't change. It's so much faster, easier and all the backings are together in my hand to throw away. I know, you are probably cringing!

I have a cute little tiny garbage can on my work areas just for those backings.

I never use enough adhesive. Usually just a quick swipe with the ATG. Things are constantly falling off my pages. I don't like spending money on adhesive when there are better scrappy things to buy! So I'm frugal with my tape.
I know it's very odd.

I will put anything on a page
I sometimes don't journal
I will toss completes layouts somewhere and sometimes things pile up on it.
I tend to forget to take pics of thing/moments that should be scrapbooked.
Last Christmas I forgot to take pics of DH opening his gifts...I was so bummed so I re wrapped them all and we set up a "fake photo opp" but it wasn't the same lol his smiles and "surprise" was basically me threatening him to make it look believable.

I have to tell DH abut this! He always accuses me of "staging life" when I don't get a picture I want. But I've never gone this far.

I don't care about archival either. I use ATG for my glue and don't get the acid free of that either since it's more expensive. I scrapbook for myself - when I'm gone, no one else is going to care.

I make sure everything is archival safe. I want my kids to want the books when I am gone. My kids are hitting teenage years. They are not my favorite right now. I am hoping scrapbooking will remind them of how much they are loved. Although , I think they should know that , currently I wonder....

I thought of another one: I always use too much adhesive. I don't just put adhesive in the corners, I put it all over the place. I figure if a little is good, a lot must be better!

I don't know what I do that is cringeworthy about my scrapping, but I know I cringe at my piles of supplies that are stacked up in 3 rooms in bags, boxes, bins and loose. I have about 1/3 of my total stuff organized and the rest is total chaos.
I do however have many many completed albums so lots of stuff does get used, just not enough to make a dent.

Great thread!
One of my biggies is that I have scraplifted myself right out of being creative. I literally cannot start page w/out some sketch or idea book in front of me. I am able to change things up usually and make it my own, but I can almost never not start w/out someone else's idea.
It also takes me waaay too long to do a page. Mainly because I am so afraid there is a 'better' sketch or 'better' technique or 'better' embellishment that I have to consider all my options before I will commit to something. Sometimes it takes the fun out of scrapbooking for me and it starts to feel more like a chore. I really need to lighten up.

I don't scrap or file layouts chronologically. I never have a plan which lends itself to some strange layouts with sometimes too little or too many embellies.....I sometimes journal but I am completely title challenged....and I'm really messy...... Don't tell the scrap police...I'll be locked up for life!!!!!!!

Since this is the second time you mentioned it, I decided to go to your blog and look again...what do you know! You do! I pictured it pictures cut small CM style but was pleasantly surprised to realize how you do it! It's just around the white edge of the picture. It looks so nice. Do you have the wite edge printed or do you mat it?
