what do you guys think of the 'stories by the month' kit? I am on the fence--worth 9.99 a month but I'm always afraid to sign for 12 mos when SC is involved I've been an Ali subscriber for a year now with story stamp and kit. Never had a problem. A couple cards had a spelling error and she had them ship a replacement out with the next month's kits. So while I won't do SC anymore I kept Ali's stuff because she has better quality and shipping is typically handled better too. The only issue I have with the story kits is the lack of information about the addons. I'm on the waitlist for the stories of the month kits and should get Jan, Feb, and March next month. I don't expect any problems.

I'm torn on the single sided cards--I didn't like having to choose one side over the other, but there are times I don't like a side so I was happy to be done with it...now I'll have more to store & more to decide what to do with because I'm not sure I'll ever use it because of color/saying/design. Maybe I'll just set aside ones I know I am very unlikely to use and stamp on the plain white side... That’s what I plan to do with the cards I don’t like. Her cards are good quality so I’ll just stamp on the white side. I’d much prefer to have a few single side cards I don’t want to use than to have a double side card that I want to use both sides. So I’m super happy with the change from double to single sided. I wish she would offer a basic grid or lines on the reverse side.

I too always wondered why no one ever sold plain 3x4 cards--because honestly...cutting plain white paper just isn't the same... A couple of years ago Stampin UP put some grid 3x4 PL cards on clearance--I ended up buying 4 or 5 packs of them because the backside was plain and because the grid was light enough that it didn't overpower the front. I'll be sad when I use those up because they have been great!

I just got my first Story Kit from Ali. I like the quality but I am having a hard time using the kit itself. The sayings are kinda quirky- "love you good" And its like its built for just 1 layout. Every card says for the love of. I didn't think it would be so specific. I can't see putting for the love of on multiple pages, it seems weird?? I thought it would be more like DD with the ability to tell different stories, if that makes any sense. With DD it all revolves around "December/Holidays" but all stories work with it. With my PL album I am not professing love for things on a daily. kwim? Or maybe my life just sucks, haha! Does anyone else feel this way? I will probably cancel after this month, but I would really like to find a monthly kit. I am on the waitlist for the Story of the Month kit, maybe that one would be better?

I've made 3 layouts so far. I use Ali's story kits mostly for layouts with bits thrown into my PL. Some months it feels harder than others to use everything. I plan to use those story cards on 1 layout listing all the things I love about my husband. The kit inspired me to start an album called "For the Love of Baseball" so I'll find use for the stamps and pieces all through that. If you only do PL then the story kits might not be the best fit. Unless you use those story cards and journaling jump starts on several photos as a design sort of element. I watch Ali's videos in the classroom and pick up other inspiration ideas from there. But that walking away thing. I have no idea how or if I'll use that card or the stamp (since I get both) It's really weird to me.

Sunny1016 I had the same issues with the story kit. I think you’ll be a lot happier with stories by the month. I imagine it’ll be off waitlist in a few months. 95% of my sb’ing is project life and the story kits are just too specific for me to use one kit for an entire spread. It does get repetitive. The sbtm kit is perfect for PL though. I’ll just be mixing in some filler cards and other stuff from my stash.
“Love you good”...lol...

Ali explained in the walk through video that her grandmother always said love you good. Cute story about her grandmother, but I can't see the rest of us using that in our albums.

Along the lines of unusable sayings...I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I don’t get why this quote was made into a stamp: “I am learning to love the sound of my feet walking away from things not meant for me.” One journal card, maybe for certain people...but how many times is someone really going to stamp that?

Right! I think if I end up using that stamp it'll be cut apart and just use the "I am" or "I am learning" on a journaling card or photo maybe? I can't imagine using it at all.

I know it has been mentioned several times that Ali uses a fair amount of sayings or phrases that seem "her style" vs being more universal. I agree with this sentiment. If anyone is interested in offering constructive feedback, I think it would be good to list some of those phrases here. I'll start my list and please feel free to add your thoughts. I'll tag katiejaeger as I know you keep track of feedback, Katie. Phrases that seem "Ali specific" to me 1) "Bring on the ______" 2) Anything including "totally" ie: "You can totally do this" 3) Phrases including "super” ie: "Super love this story" 4) "For the win" 5) Anything including the word "Rad" I want to be clear that I am a longtime, satisfied AE customer. I am currently subbed to two of her monthly kits. I just want to provide helpful feedback; knowing that others will have differing opinions. But it's a start, right?!

Kind of hard to get information about products from videos when you’re mostly deaf. My hearing aids don’t do well with videos. How incredibly insensitive of AE. Not only that, it’s bad business not to have an accurate description of your products sold online.

Progress, not perfection Words + Photos Currently Around here Stories matter Currently, around here, words and photos and stories matter, despite being Ali’s buzzwords, are still pretty universal and common across a lot of scrapbooking products and are words we are likely to use in speech in our lives. ‘Super love’ ‘rad’ and ‘for the win’ are too stylised for most people and are words or phrases a lot of us wouldn’t say.

I'm obviously new to her kits so I don't know her usual phrases. My only issue is that her "theme phrase" isn't really just a theme. It is on almost every single piece of the kit so that makes it harder to use. But I know others make it work for them so it is probably just not for me. (and who knows -maybe it was just this particular kit that didn't resonate with me)
I do really like the idea of having her videos along with the kit though. I think that's what helped me complete my DD. Her prompts help me out when I get bored.
PS- Wanted to add: I was shocked at how much thicker her cards are compared to my PL cards. Way better quality!

It's the same with items from her shop for me. My eyesight isn't bad, but it's not as good as most people's. I can't see what is written on some items even when I click on it to see it bigger.

Out of all the phrases listed, the only one I don’t use (either in real life, scrapbooking, or both) is rad. But I know quite a few twenty-somethings that do use rad. I’m in Michigan, I don’t know if it’s regional or not.
I know I say ‘totally’ a lot, and regularly type for the win/FTW. I use the word ‘super’ a stupid amount. Progress not perfection is frequently used among people who workout and for goal setting/assessment. I do a monthly currently layout, and can think of several layouts I’ve done that used ‘around here’. I think ‘stories matter’ is versatile enough to be used in any page with journaling, and it would be very appropriate on a “why I scrapbook’ page.
Not saying that those who don’t use those terms don’t have a totally valid point, because they should absolutely have their voices heard, too. But I bet it’s difficult to try to come up with phrases and products that are universal enough to please people across different regions in the US and the world, and people that can have very different lifestyles.

I'm having to research ADA stuff for work, and I don't know how much AE would have to comply, as her individual company is 2 people (her and Katie). I don't know if Inked meets the 50 person threshold, and if they do, how that would impact Ali. The ADA best practices for websites are intense.

I'm kind of wandering off here within the conversation that is happening but can someone tell me the weight of cardstock that Ali's 3x4 cards are printed on? I have always loved how super thick they are. They are very comparable to KP's.

I have a few random whites (that are all out of their packages, so I wouldn't even know what it was if it matched 🙄) and one is close. Trying to match whites in a spread is the bane of my PL'ing. Maybe there is a card stock guru here who can help a girl out!
