same exact words 5 months later. I still have the struggling one from before. I did document a terrible week (covid and a couple of other things all at the same time) but I don't typically like dwelling on the negative so I don't typically photograph it so it doesn't get documented. They are not gross! They are harmless. They don't bite. They are not slimy. They have cool red eyes. One in a couple hundred thousand will have white eyes! They don't know why. They don't have enough to research. It's so cool. Also they provide lots of food for other species. Our family dog loved eating them when they came out when he was alive (like 3 broods ago, I am so old). The seasonal/yearly ones don't come out in nearly the numbers as the broods. And they're smaller. But boy are they loud. I'm sorry you don't like cicadas. I will forever speak their praise. And how crazy that the last time two broods came out at the same time like this year was when Jefferson was alive. Thomas Jefferson. I love it! I hope I have swayed your opinion a bit.

Oh that’s another thing- my area doesn’t have cicadas?! and I hate the faces. Ugh The only thing I like about the physical story kit is the pockets with cards in them. It's the kind of product I can make digitally, but it just doesn't look the same. I have the digital kit on skip (which is my go-to from now on), so I need to decide if I'll un-skip. The theme of Collect seemed very specific at first, but I do like the quote cards and the way some of the products can go with a lot of different stories. (So I guess I do like something besides the pockets!) I love the faces--but not for scrapbooking! They had something similar in the Open kit, and I couldn't see a way of using them even though I think they're kind of cool. I live in North Carolina, and the cicadas are in full force during the summer. Do they have them in Oregon where Ali lives? I guess I just assumed they were everywhere. I live in WA and we don’t have them. I doubt Ali does either - and she made mention of “some of you” or something when she read that card. I think lisa is designing these and she lives in Georgia I think which tracks for that.

I just googled and apparently WA has some quiet species of cicada? Huh. I’ve never seen one or heard anyone speak of them ever and I’ve lived here my whole life. Whatever. That card is getting trashed. lol.

we do have them in AZ but because of our climate they are not a huge huge deal. I think they are more of an issue int he southern usa. Inked is in KY so maybe thats it? I think it is so strange to include that.

I think it is so strange to include that. So interesting to hear everyone's thoughts on the cicadas! I find it curious you say that because the only time I lived anywhere with cicadas was in AZ and they were so loud sometimes we couldn't have conversations outside without raising our voices (Mesa, AZ). We don't really have them where I live now, but that card gave me a chuckle. I think you could use it to document people being whiny in general? I might use it for something like that. I thought I saw a card in another kit that said something about screaming like a cicada but now I can't remember where I saw it! I really loved this SBTM kit, I can't wait to use it (but I need to wait for August). I am traveling most of August so I might end up using it for a travel spread... unsure. I'm also super excited about this story kit, this was a theme I suggested years ago so I was super thrilled when she announced she was going to do it. blemon I find that so interesting that you don't care about food at all... food is one of my favorite things! Could you look at it more from a documentary angle? Like the fact that food changes over time so it might be neat to look back on what products you purchased now, or the prices? Or you could just fill that section with large stamping that says "all the food" or something and then focus on the other two sections? ETA: So excited to see this thread bumped to the top again and super active. It fell to page 3 there for awhile!

Could take a photo in Aldi. As a vegetarian in a small town in WV, there are so few options that we rarely go out to eat. The food we eat at home is great but not worth documenting or taking photos of.

It is so fun to see how different themes and ideas resonate with each other. I would never dream of documenting bugs of any kind in my PL albums. One of my best friends adores them, raises caterpillars, goes on insect quests and journals about them. I'm in Minnesota, out of the swarms but we do have Cicadas. Usually in August, when it's hot and dry. They remind me of the long, hot days of summer. Maybe that's why I don't like them, not a huge fan of summer.
I do like to document food, where we go, what we eat, what I make. It's so different now verses 10 or 20 years ago.

I am tired of that handwritten font with the thick & thin.
No cicadas here in SoCal, thankfully. I am not a bug person but I do love butterflies.
I just re-upped for the SBTM kit and am a little underwhelmed. I haven't done any monthly documenting for about a year now, and I'm ready to begin again.

I just watched the video and I'm excited for the chipboard. I like when the sbtm kits come with numbers that go with the 1 2 3 cards. That's been an easy way for me to get some journaling into my layouts. I don't typically do a lot of journaling.
I'm more excited about the kit now that I saw the video.
(And now that I'm working on July, I still don't like it. I will do some deep dives into my stash for this and go super photo heavy. I pulled a few black and white things as they seemed to go.)

I’m here to be told off! LOL.
The cicada card is weird. The faces are creepy. I don’t like the colour scheme. But no tags this month, so… yay?
I was on at 12:00 and many things were sold out. I think they probably had only a few of those items. Unimpressed.

I do like all of the different angles she chose for the word Collect but nothing really excites me this month. Not a fan of the colors or those oval frames. The SBTM kit seems very chaotic to me. I could see picking up the stamp set on sale but that’s it.

If anyone is going to pitch the cicadas card, I’d love to buy it. It’s an ongoing joke at our house. The sound is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Is Lisa Varshine no longer doing a lesson for SBTM? Last month, she posted her layouts with no video. This month, it's Jen, Jennie, and a guest storyteller.

Last month Lisa’s lesson was posted the next day. I saw it wasn’t there this month and figured it would be the same- that she was late. I didn’t realize there was no video from her last month. She seems like a really sweet person but I cannot listen to her rambling videos- they drive me crazy- so I just peek at how she used the product. I liked the guest storyteller this month- Shannon- she is new to me. and of course I enjoyed last Month’s guest as well.

I ended up getting just the digital version of last month's controversial kit, and I was pleasantly surprised at the layouts the four contributors shared. None of them focused on the 4th of July. I love Lisa's photographs--I think photography is her strength--but she does ramble about her kids for way too long. I like knowing some background about a layout, but I'd much rather hear about the actual process.

“Last month’s controversial kit” cracked me up. I totally understood the controversy and felt things should have been different, but that said, I personally, am enjoying using the kit. I went hard on the red white blue theme for 4th of July week- we didn’t actually do anything 4th of July but it was relevant as there were fireworks around us for multiple days and it effected us because our dogs hate it. I sorted out the other things for two different color schemes for two other weeks in July and will either just put what’s left in my stash or trash or repurpose pieces I know I won’t use. Overall it worked out fine for me. for repurposing, I’ll flip a card over and use the white side to make my own card or I’ll use a vellum piece to “anchor” 2 3x4 in the front and back of a 4x6 pocket together or cut out anything usable from the card. Although there are things I’d change about the kits, overall I am pleased with them- I think there’s so many pieces even if I don’t use some I still got my money’s worth.

For $15.99/month, it's the least expensive scrapbooking purchase I make. I always add on the digital kit for more flexibility, but it's still a bargain for what you get. Last year was the first year they offered "inspiration," and I guess I've gotten spoiled about expecting it. I really like the August kit, cicada reference and all.

I'm in Nebraska and the cicadas are just starting to tune up. We aren't in a 17 or 13 year brood area. I'll totally use that card.
I admit I was a bit 🤨 when I saw that struggling die cut (again!). I've noticed the repeat of die cut shapes and what is printed on them. This is why I'll cancel after December. I cannot do two years in a row. 2025 will be Elle's Studio that I've been receiving this year as well. My goals is to not have a sub in 2025 except the AE scrapbook kit.

I’m trying not to be salty about the full Price stamps I pretty recently bought that are now only $10. Good deal for people that don’t have them yet, though!

There are products I have been interested in lately, but I'm always kicking myself when they go on sale after I paid full price. Also, I don't NEED anything, it's all impulse based on seeing a video. I've resisted the temptation for that reason. I did pick up some stamps from Ali's sale, because one was the frames stamp that was sold out for so long and then when it came back I balked at the price. I'm really happy it was $10.
