i heartily agree with this. i'd love to see the SBTM kits have a little less holiday and a lot more "seasonal" flavor. most definitely waaaay too much easter for me. i signed up knowing, of course, what i'd be getting this year - but maybe this could be taken into consideration for any of next year's kits that aren't already designed? katiejaeger Yes, I love hearing your suggestions! Keep them coming! Also, to answer the question about the May SBTM kit-- We will include both "Mom" and "Mum" cards. I believe there are only 2 that are effected. These cards will be extra for this month and will not be in place of the others that are usually included. That's awesome. My husband, for whatever reason, decided that Mum is his term of choice in spite of him being 100% American. I'll have to save the Mum cards for when we see his Mum!

I'm happy with the Easter theme as I don't have anything in my stash for Easter. I'm loving the price point of the sbtm kit esp when u compare Scs monthly stamp which is the same size & price as the sbtm stamp, but that's all you get. I'm confused by your comment... SCs monthly stamp sub is WAY bigger than the stamp in the SBTM. Not saying it's a good deal or that the SBTM kit isn't a better deal, but the stamps are definitely not the same size. I think the SBTM stamp is 3x4 and the SC stamp sub is 6x8.

Not a fan whatsoever of the SBTM April kit. April is not defined by one day for me. I will force myself to create a spread about Easter so I can use the supplies but it’s not really something we celebrate here.
I would have liked a kit focussed on the sunny days of spring. March was like winter/rainy days in Spring, April could have been about the beautiful things of spring - bunnies, bluebells, sunshine, flowers, lambs etc.
What the heck am I going to do with a whole chipboard sheet of ovals?

‘Love these eggs’ - really?
Maybe I can get my OH to take a photo of me collapsed on the sofa in a chocolate coma with foil and wrappers surrounding me for that one.

Can I just add that I really dislike that you can't expand the pictures anymore and that you have to use (when it works) the stupid magnifying glass? They did this to SC too and it just annoys me to no end. Is there a good reason for it? I tried to view digitals yesterday and it was so annoying I skipped it. The magnifying glass is the worst. Also the digital kits of the SBTM are higher than the subscription price for the physical kit. That always strikes me as odd.

I agree that the April kit is geared towards Easter. I have many things to document on that day, so it's good for me. My niece is getting old enough to do crafts, I hope I can plan crafty mornings with her before that, too. All that to say that if you're willing to part with your chipboard sheets, I'd gladly pay for it. Edited.

I really like the home kit. And that geotag wood veneer seriously thinking about picking up more than 1
I knew before I subbed that the April and May SBTM kits were going to be "wasted" on me. I don't really do anything for Easter and I don't celebrate Mother's Day. I'll pass those cards along to friends. I do wish the April chipboard were circles vs "egg" ovals.

I looked closer at some of the other digitals and September is oval, too. That will be at least 3 kits in 13 months...maybe she is trying to make something other than circles trendy? I hope they are easier to use than they look. I like the patterns and designs on them...so there's that.

I really like SBTM kit this month. Easter is a big deal for our family and we always have an Easter photo shoot for my kid. A lot to document. I actually bought about 4 or 5 cut apart Easter-themed papers as I always run out of cards. I understand that not everyone is the same. There are a few ISOs in some Facebook groups for this kit so it’s easily can be resold with no money loss.
The Home kit is very nice. I started subscription and this is my first kit. I am planning on making a separate album using themes and kits. I like that Ali includes items that can be used outside of the theme as well. I bought Fabric kit of Facebook and used most of embellishments scrapping my fall pictures.

happyscrappydo that's a very good point. I've always felt the $9.99 price point for a 3x4 stamp set is too high.

I like these monthly stamps by SC because again they can fill a hole in my stash, but they are priced too high compared to the SBTM kit. www.studiocalico.com/shop/stamp-set-4x3-april-monthly-series-by-hello-forever

I agree. I think March was a good mix...lots of Spring references AND stuff about St. Patrick's Day, too. What other kinds of topics would you want to see? April for us is a lot of park time (too hot in the summer unless we go at or after sunset when the equipment isn't too hot to touch but the temps are still in the low 100's, high 90's), but that would be quite specific...so maybe stuff about just being outside? Mainly I would like the chipboard to be more versatile. While some don't see the ovals as Easter eggs, that is all I see when I look at them. For the cards, generic patterns would be good, some stripes? Something that also bugs me this month (maybe I am just noticing it though?) is that there are a bunch of filler cards...I want cards that I can journal on. 8 3x4 cards and 4 of them are filler. 4 4x6 cards and (for me) 2 (and possibly 3) of them are filler (or not easily written on because of the design). I just started my sub last month and received all three kits at the same time and that bugs me as well: the ratio filler card to journaling card is off for the amount of cards we get. I started doing a 12x12 weekly spread (as opposed to 24x12) this year and I don’t really use filler cards any more.

The Story of the Month kits have 1 of 5 chipboard templates until February 2018 introduces a 6th template. The ovals appear a few times (April, September, and January 2018). I really like the variety of chipboard.
One: 1/17 6/17 12/17
Two: 2/17 7/17 8/17
Three: 3/17 10/17
Four: 4/17 9/17 1/18
Five: 5/17 11/17 3/18
Six: 2/18

I want the Home kit but I refuse to be waitlisted for it (and still probably not get it). I will take my chances on finding it for sale elsewhere. Same. I am FOREVER on the prowl for stamps like this - about home and life. And month after month after month after month the big stamp companies give me critters and flowers. UGH!!!!!! Home, people. We want some stamps about life and HOME!!! Not just critters and flowers.

I will use more of the March kit in April and May since we don't get anything close to spring in New England until then.
I really should make a poster of the "I'm sorry for what I said when it was winter" journaling card.

I think my weather in update New York is probably similar to yours in New England. Not sure where you are but my in-laws are near Boston and we're pretty similar to them most of the time.

Well I’ll be staying clear of the Craft the Story Facebook group for a few days. Story camp went on sale today so there have already been several posts of people complaining that they didn’t get in.
I understand that people have the right to be disappointed when they look forward to going and it sold out on them. But it’s only 30 or so spots. Of course the majority of people who try to sign up aren’t going to make it.
I don’t get the need to go on the AE Facebook group and complain about it.

It sounds to me like she should operate like one of the big retreats (used to be held here in Vegas but is now in California since the organizer and Teresa Collins went their separate ways) and put people on waitlist. Offer it to people who have attended already and then go down the list if some are unable to attend rather than this free for all it is now. I get that it would appear an unfair advantage to those who had previously attended but it would help avoid the mess of people all fighting over a few seats. It might even benefit her to make the event larger and bring in some other crafty people so they can rotate classes instead of her doing all of the teaching as she'd be able to fit more people that way.

Complaining doesn’t really do anything.

I understand people are disappointed about not getting in. We all deal with disappointment in different ways. I don't see them complaining on the Facebook group as much different than complaining on SC message board when it was around. The only difference is Ali will actually listen to feedback and she cares about her customers. Unlike April who couldn't care less about upsetting her cu$tomer$.

The only difference is Ali will actually listen to feedback and she cares about her customers. Unlike April who couldn't care less about upsetting her cu$tomer$. Very true...except you can read a headline and avoid it on a message board. In a facebook group, active topics are always bumped to the top and if everyone is complaining, that's all anyone is going to see. It's much more difficult to avoid, so I can understand the annoyance. Yes, you can scroll on by, but if you check back frequently, you're going to have to repeatedly scroll through the same negative content in order to get to the content you actually want to see. The structure makes it more difficult to avoid as you cannot hide things in a group the way you can on your personal newsfeed (which is honestly a feature that Facebook SHOULD implement). Then it would be easy to hide it once and be done with it. The only way to hide content in groups currently is to report and/or block the poster. Blocking seems extreme if the person usually contributes content you want to see in the group and reporting...well, it doesn't fit into the guidelines of what posts are meant to be reported for. I will say that it is nice to see that Ali allows dissenting opinions instead of being like Tracie Claiborne and requiring it to be sunshine and rainbows all the time (unless she herself is the debbie downer).

I forgot that today was sign up for Story Camp. Besides the actual camp cost, I estimated it would cost $2,000 to go, between airfare, hotel, rental car, food, and souvenirs.
That's a good chunk of change that could pay for a week in Europe vs a weekend in Oregon...

Not everyone is like that though and I envy those with friends at crops they go to. The closest I get to that is the paper issues online crops, those are so fun and I’ve trained my husband to leave me alone that weekend lol

I was purposely oblivious to what I spent to attend Story Camp... it was a lot. But I have no IRL friends who scrapbook or memory keep like I do... so being able to "geek out" for several days with people who have the same (very specific) interest was worth it for me. Even though I went alone, I got to meet several people I have known or followed online over the years which was a bonus for me. I also made a longer trip out of it as well. If there was ever a Story Camp 2.0, I would go again in a heartbeat.
I have never been to a bigger "convention" style event, but I wouldn't travel or spend money like that to learn from Ali in that capacity. The venue she used only held 40 people and it was cozy in there. It was a great number, a wide range of individuals to interact with but still small enough that everyone could participate and have their questions answered or comments heard. The DD prep party isn't something I would travel to either. Granted I have never prepped my album, but that is a lot of people and just not the same atmosphere that would be worth the time, effort, and money for me personally. She is never going to make everyone happy, but what she is doing clearly works for her and was a great experience for the attendees too. Hard to argue with continuing to do that in my book.

So the one that sold out today is the same content on repeat, then? I would assume, but don't know that for a fact. I am not on Facebook and from what I can tell that is where most all of the info is being shared now about this, especially since her page on the SC message boards also went poof. I went to the first one and it appeared that the lessons and projects were largely the same at the second. The second one was made longer and included additional photography content for sure. I would also assume that she is tweaking the lessons each time based on how they go IRL and feedback. We had some changes to the schedule and content on the fly during the first one as expected. Heck, if I didn't think someone who didn't get in would hunt me down and assault me from the reactions being described on Facebook, I would go do the same workshops again in the future and probably still benefit from the content, community, and experience even on repeat. So how is that for a really long non-answer... haha.
