Someday I hope to be able to go. Right now, I have other financial priorities, but in a year or so, I am hoping she is still offering it. If I don't get in lol...well, that is the luck of the draw and I will have to try again, not her fault/anyones fault...just how it is. I would not be interested in a big convention thing either, I like the idea of the small-ness of it.

I was purposely oblivious to what I spent to attend Story Camp... it was a lot. But I have no IRL friends who scrapbook or memory keep like I do... so being able to "geek out" for several days with people who have the same (very specific) interest was worth it for me. Even though I went alone, I got to meet several people I have known or followed online over the years which was a bonus for me. I also made a longer trip out of it as well. If there was ever a Story Camp 2.0, I would go again in a heartbeat. I have never been to a bigger "convention" style event, but I wouldn't travel or spend money like that to learn from Ali in that capacity. The venue she used only held 40 people and it was cozy in there. It was a great number, a wide range of individuals to interact with but still small enough that everyone could participate and have their questions answered or comments heard. The DD prep party isn't something I would travel to either. Granted I have never prepped my album, but that is a lot of people and just not the same atmosphere that would be worth the time, effort, and money for me personally. She is never going to make everyone happy, but what she is doing clearly works for her and was a great experience for the attendees too. Hard to argue with continuing to do that in my book. So the one that sold out today is the same content on repeat, then? I recall reading somewhere that it is the same content every time, and for this reason, once you go, you aren’t allowed to return, to give others the opportunity to attend. I could be wrong, as I don’t remember where I read this.

Interesting but I already have my DD stuff for this year - ordered an album from Ali last year and have some OA lines to use. With all the hold ups with everything last year, I like to be prepared- especially when you put international shipping in the mix.

lasteve1. If you zoom in on the photo there is a box at the end of the pink couch. But I am not familiar enough with recent DD kits to know if that is a box we haven't seen before or if it is an old perhaps hanging around.

I think that might be last year's though because the box has diagonal green stripes and I kinda remember 2017 boxes to have that pattern (the pattern is different every year) but maybe I'm misremembering... anyone else remember?

Thanks for dashing everyone's hopes katiejaeger 😂 You all really should start messing with us and putting random stuff in photos just to see if we notice... boxes labeled super secret new product release or ridiculous things like Happy Arbor Day kit. And then laugh at us while we all try to figure it out!

So I got the week in the life email... kinda disappointed it's just announcing when reveal is because somehow I got it in my head that it would be this week, lol.
For anyone that didn't get it: Facebook live, March 20 @ 12 PM PDT Product launch, Wednesday, March 21 Documentation week, May 7 - 13

Well, from the photo thats included in the email the cork stickers are exactly the same as ones they've (not certain if it was SC or Ali) offered before. I think they've both done a version of them in the past, I'm pretty sure I've gotten multiple packs of those. I think they switched up the icons?
Those look like "story cards" instead of 3x4 cards and all the paper items have rounded corners so I'm a little confused about that... the large rubber circles look pretty awesome but I'm not sure if they are worth the cost--those have got to be $1+ per embellishment? Also rubber is so bulky & hard to get to adhere without messing stuff up.

I know Ali has stated many times over the years that she doesn't care if some stuff doesn't last/gets ruined because she scrapbooks to tell her story, not for archival reasons. I personally feel differently, so while stuff like rubber embellishments look really cool, I am worried about long term degradation, especially since Florida's humid climate is particularly unforgiving. I'm almost at the point where I want to get rid of most of my embellishments, as they mess up surrounding pages by being too dimensional, they crumble (cork), melt (rubber), or rust (metal), or they contain acid/lignin. LOL, thankfully I never jumped on the wood veneer train!! I guess that makes this an easy pass for me - and my wallet rejoices! 💸

They switched up some of the icons. Comparing the set I have right in front me with what I can see in the photo: The photo has a geotag, music note, star, flower, arrow, iPhone. The set I have already has a geotag, music note (though it *is* a different music note), star, flower. I have used some from my sheet, so I am not certain which ones those were. edited: I found photos of the ones I already have from Ali and SC. Ooh thanks for tracking down these photos--I'm pretty sure I have both of those sets--and maybe some additional ones (maybe ABM?)? I think Ali also used this same cork die for some text based embellishments at some point.
It seems like most of the icons are repeats, just rearranged on the sheet to make them seem new. While I agree that some icons are timeless (heart, star, etc.) and I could use them over and over, I'd rather have new stuff in a kit--if you're going to use timeless icons, present them in new mediums/styles.

Yes, there are more sets of them. I just had these two sets within arms reach on my desk.

I haven't ever made a huge fuss over checking if products are archival or not, but I really want things to last--I just don't want to do the work to figure out if things are when that information isn't always readily available. I have gotten very disappointed when I look at old projects and the pages are bent out of shape because of bulky embellishments or things have faded/slipped around. I know Ali doesn't care about her projects lasting, but I think she's stated that in relation to using regular office pens (which I've noticed get a yellowish "glow" with time). I try to use mostly products that are intended for scrapbooking and assume they are archival quality. I think that if you're selling products with the purpose of using them in a scrapbook (as opposed to office supplies) customers should be able to assume they are archival unless you label them otherwise. I get that it's easier as a company to just be silent on the issue because people who don't think about it will just buy things assuming they will last, but that seems dishonest. If you're selling something for the purpose of scrapbooking--which is something people intend to last--your products should be designed to last or come with a label warning consumers that they are not archival.
I say this, but then I'll continue buying the pretty products and just cry when my projects fall apart

View AttachmentView AttachmentI totally ran to my desk when I got the email to compare! But it’s not a repeat. Ali will (and has in the past) said she likes something from an SC kit that she came up with a similar design for hers. Nope, those were not extras lying around in the warehouse that randomly made it to a kit. Nope. Whole new design. (Eyeroll)

(Eyeroll) It's also a way to be cheap - since the production company in China already has the die cast, and knows how to manufacture the cork properly, there is minimal cost to slap new icons on the cork. It would cost more to change the material, and even more to change the die design. That's why there are so many repeated chipboard pattern shapes.

I think most companies have moved away from archival standards - very few seem to promote they are acid/lignin free. I think some of the factors include the "Life artist" trend Ali started years ago, PL, and the American Crafts takeover. Not to mention the shift in manufacturing in the States to overseas, particularly China. As many consumers don't seem to demand archival materials, it is much cheaper to shift away from producing those items.

Its how they keep the costs as low as possible for them and make as much margin as they can from us.
