Trump allowed his sycophants to feel "normal" with their white supremacy views and their hatred for things they don't understand and their desire for quick and easy answers to generational, complicated, layered problems.
But they AND TRUMP are NOT NORMAL. They are small-minded - in every sense of the word. They are fearful. They are mean - in every sense of the word. They are NOT NORMAL.
They and Trump do not speak for the vast majority of Americans. They and Trump do not speak for me. They and Trump do not represent me.
I apologize to those in the countries slighted by this current resident of the Oval Office and by his boot-lickers and enablers. Their time will come, they will be voted or convicted out, and we will make amends, to the best of our ability, for the ugliness they have shown the world.

Of course he welcomes citizens from Norway who he assumes are white and doesn't want black people from the shitholes of Africa and Haiti. Did we ever doubt this man is a racist of the highest order?

I just have to say, I LOVE JOY REID and RACHEL MADDOW!!! They are essential for my sanity. Especially Joy Reid. I love to watch her, she doesn’t agitate me like the rest of them do. She is getting a lot of airtime lately and I am enjoying it.

The thing is - this is what people who voted for him wanted. I am not kidding when I say all the closet racist mofos came out and voted for him just so he can say things like this and do everything short of killing people with his own bare hands. He will have lot of company in hell for sure.

Let me answer the question... The Congolese single mom of 8 that I met when she arrived in this country a few days before Christmas is here because despite not understanding any English, having to figure out how she will make a living that will provide for her kids, arriving with only 1 outfit for her children, not knowing what a jar of jam or peanut butter is, going thousands of dollars into debt just for their plane tickets and so many other difficulties big and small that she is facing, felt it was better than how she was living before where her life and the lives of her children were in danger. What can we do? I really don't know what to do politically. I do know that you can help refugees from those countries that are in camps or who are already here or are coming. Lifting Hands International helps those in refugee camps and those resettled in Utah. In the Phoenix area you can help those resettled here through Gathering Humanity (The Phoenix part of Lifting Hands will soon be called Gathering Humanity) You can help either organization with donations if you live too far or you can go to www.JustServe.org and do a search for "refugee" to find organizations in your area. Things you might do to help the refugees here, depending on what is happening in your area: provide a meal for them when they arrive, provide groceries for them for their first couple of weeks, donate gently used or new furniture, household goods and personal care items for their first home, move furniture etc to set up an apartment for when they arrive, teach ESL, buy baklava etc from them at farmer's markets (Scottsdale) and other places, adopt a family at Christmas time, mentor a family, order apartment needs at Amazon and so many other things. You may not be able to do anything about Trump, but you can help those refugees that live not very far from you and in camps.

OK, I'm not done. Doing a slow burn... Yesterday I read a quote by one of the big Fox News personalities - forget his name. He was criticizing President Trump for backing down on immigration. He claimed immigration puts everybody in the country at risk. THEN he claimed that Democrats just want to bring people here for their votes. (Apparently he either doesn't know how long it takes to become a citizen or he believes all the malarkey about noncitizens voting....and how will the immigrants know they're supposed to vote Democratic? Argh.) This is what our country has come to: treating immigration, which is the pillar of American development, as a danger and ploy to get Democratic votes. Both are considered evil and unAmerican. Yup, immigration is unAmerican. That was Tucker Carlson. It fits with my theory that Trump was playing to him & Coulter, hoping they'd give him kudos either on TV or on Twitter, and help me shore up that small group of voters. And I do believe they're a small group; I don't think the full # who voted for him think this way, or that there are enough of them who think this way to win an election.. as I've said in the past, beyond Russian interference, he got in because enough people looked past his racism, pretended not to see it, etc, because they just blindly always vote Republican, or they just hated Clinton & weren't going to 'waste' their vote on a third party. It's because the rabid Trumpers who watch Fox to the exclusion of exposure to any kind of reality are so loud that they seem like they're a bigger group than they are. Their voices have been amplified. Same with the folks who are so pro life or so anti gay that it's the deciding factor in their vote. There's never been enough of them on the far right to win a presidency, which is why the Republicans in the past have only ever paid lip service to them - those R's know it's not like there's anywhere else for those people to go, and if they lose them by being too 'moderate' they can win over Independents, and Dems who are borderline fiscal right wingers. But this time, because Bernie Sanders messed so much up for the Democrats, their power was multiplied. Hopefully it won't happen again. Democrats have GOT to come together & the 'progressives' are going to have to learn to compromise & realize that forming government is more important than ideological purity tests for candidates.

I am from Norway.
We have for the last year been watching this SHITSHOW of a presidency unfold in international media. There is no respect for Trump in the Norwegian population. I have never heard a single person in my country say anything that might indicate that they support him in any way. And believe me, we do discuss him!
We are basically rolling our eyes at everything he does. And we sympathize with the US population who did not vote for him, but still has to endure him as a president.
The US is one of our favorite places to travel to, but we are a lot more hesitant to visit in this political climate. I have friends of color. Born and bred Norwegians without blonde hair and blue eyes. They are definitly not visiting the US for a while. I can't speak for ALL Norwegians who are not blonde and blue-eyed, but my friends are choosing other holiday destinations.
Because of Trump, the US is about to become a shithole country of its very own. Why would we want to visit or move to a shithole country? We are fine right here in Norway.
I was proud of our PM after the visit. She is not a person I voted for, but she is smart and patient and she knows right from wrong. She showed a lot more diplomacy than I would have in her talks with Trump.

Not just African countries, Haiti and EL Salvador too, he would much prefer them from places like Norway apparently! President Trump grew frustrated with lawmakers Thursday in the Oval Office when they floated restoring protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan immigration deal, according to two people briefed on the meeting.
“Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?” Trump said, according to these people, referring to African countries and Haiti. He then suggested that the United States should instead bring more people from countries like Norway, whose prime minister he met Wednesday.LINKToo apparently stupid to realize that perhaps people from Norway don't want to come here. Seeing as they live in a country that seems to care about its citizens, and provides the with things that Presidents like Trump don't see as basic human rights. I'm intending to stay exactly where I am!

Oh its not that I don't think there were NO Norwegian immigrants coming here. I'm a permanent resident Australian, so I know people do leave countries like that and come here. Just that I kind of doubt they are clamoring to come here in the numbers that the said "shithole countries" are. I tried to correct my post but you quoted before I could - the 20,000+ figure is Norwegian born in US each year not actual annual immigration their quota cap is way below that - sorry for my own false information! You mean children born to parents with Norwegian passports? Because I find that highly doubtful, considering the annual emigration to the US seems to be less than 1.000 persons. If you are talking about babies who have Norwegian ancestors, then yes, that is possible since only Ireland had more emigrants per capita than Norway.

That seemed crazily high for people to move from a sane country to one that is becoming more insane daily. SSB.no says the annual emigration to the US is less than 1.000.

Trump's 's---hole' remark sparks bipartisan backlashBY JOHN BOWDEN - 01/11/18 08:24 PM EST Rep. Mia Love LUDMYA (MIA) LOVE Trump says he's encouraging Hatch to run for reelection Lawmakers discuss how to curb partisanship The Hill's 12:30 Report MORE (R-Utah), the nation's first Haitian-American representative, said the president's remarks were "unkind, divisive, elitist, and fly in the face of our nation’s values." "This behavior is unacceptable from the leader of our nation," Love said in a statement. "My parents came from one of those countries but proudly took an oath of allegiance to the United States and took on the responsibilities of everything that being a citizen comes with." Other Republicans, such as Sen. Orrin Hatch (Utah), called for a "detailed explanation" of Trump's comments, while Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.) called them "disappointing." "I would not talk about nations like this, because I believe the people of those countries are made in the image of God and have worth and human dignity," Lankford said in a statement. thehill.com/homenews/administration/368636-lawmakers-rail-against-trump-after-s-hole-commentAnderson Cooper: ‘Let’s not kid ourselves,’ Trump’s comments are ‘racist’BY JOHN BOWDEN - 01/11/18 08:58 PM EST "The president of the United States is tired of so many black people coming to this country. Tired of immigrants from Haiti and Africa being allowed in," Cooper said, reading comments from Trump as reported by The Washington Post. thehill.com/homenews/media/368638-anderson-cooper-lets-not-kid-ourselves-trumps-comments-are-racistHe is causing major conflict... Haitian Ambassador condemns comments....... the list goes on. Disappointing? Detailed explanation? That’s the best the Republicans have to say? They should all be mortified and standing up for the immigrants. We all know that Trump is a racist pig, but this now shows how many of them are in the Senate and the House. They should be running to every microphone to speak out against what he said and how this is not what America stands for. Just when you think they can’t go any lower, they prove us wrong again.

Disgusting. And the sad thing is I'm pretty sure he's thrilled this info is out, because it plays to his base/media cheerleaders. Ann Coulter (blech) & Tucker Carlson have been going after him this week since he started saying he'd support a DACA deal. Someone in his office may think this will get them off his back. Exactly, these are the deplorables HRC was referring to. The people who use derogatory slurs for POC when they’re amongst friends, who brag they are superior because of the color of their skin, who whine the ly are being discriminated against because they’re losing some of the perks of white privilege. His base of racists.

trump...
“Never said anything derogatory about Haitians other than Haiti is, obviously, a very poor and troubled country. Never said “take them out.” Made up by Dems. I have a wonderful relationship with Haitians. Probably should record future meetings - unfortunately, no trust!
MSNBC.....
“BREAKING: Democrat Sen. Durbin, who was in meeting with Pres. Trump: "He said these hate-filled things." nbcnews.to/2CVBh8m”
So trump says he didn’t call certain countries “shithole” countries, Senator Durban says he did. The GOP guys in the meeting silent so far.
Even if the GOP guys in the meeting confirm what trump said about not using that word who’s going to believe them?
With all the lies trump has told and the steps the GOP in Congress have taken to protect trump, trump along with the GOP in Congress have really lost any credibility they may of had.

Good opinion piece (for all the deplorables) Your response to Trump’s racist ‘shithole’ comment will be remembered
What did you say when President Donald Trump referred to Haiti, El Salvador and some African nations as “shithole countries”? What did you say when the president of the United States followed that comment by suggesting he’d rather see more immigrants from countries like Norway? Whether now or in the future, you will be asked this question: What did you say? Did you call out the obvious racism behind those statements? Did you acknowledge that the leader of the free world — by title, anyway — had shown himself to be a white supremacist, casually expressing his dislike of brown-skinned immigrants and preference for white European immigrants? Were you outraged that such comments from a sitting president were antithetical to the ideals that have always made America a beacon of hope and opportunity? What did you say? Did you speak out? Did you denounce the comments, as Rep. Mia Love, a Utah Republican whose parents came to America from Haiti, did, saying in a statement: “This behavior is unacceptable from the leader of our nation. … The President must apologize to both the American people and the nations he so wantonly maligned.” Or did you keep quiet? Take note, because you will be asked. Trump’s has been a presidency filled with jaw-dropping moments of offensive behavior, but this one will stand out over time, both for its profane nature and its naked racism. So what did you say? Did you look for excuses? Did you toss out a “Well, what about …” scenario you thought might take the heat off? Did you scream something about “identity politics” and try to pretend that this is the fault of others, not the fault of the transparently racist old man in the White House? Did you say he has a point? Did you say, “Well, those countries are shitholes, aren’t they?” Did you forget how people once described immigrants from Italy and Ireland? Did you forget the words on a plaque at the Statue of Liberty? “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” Did you forget those words, or just ignore them? Did you smile about a tax break and say nothing? Did you not put the pieces together and consider all the other times Trump has shown us exactly who he is? Did you tamp down memories of his calls for the execution of the Central Park Five, even after the young men, four black and one Latino, were found innocent? Did you explain away what Trump was implying in this tweet from 2013: “According to Bill O'Reilly, 80% of all the shootings in New York City are blacks-if you add Hispanics, that figure goes to 98%. 1% white.” Did you disregard his years-long birther crusade against the nation’s first black president? His description of Mexican immigrants as rapists and criminals? His regular criticism that immigrants coming from predominately nonwhite nations are examples of those countries’ “worst people”? Did you not let yourself see the pattern? Did you twist logic into knots and blame it on the media? On political correctness? What did you say when our president called other countries “shitholes” and you had to shield your children’s ears from profanity on the nightly news? What did you tell your children about this moment? How did you explain the president’s words? Tell me, what did you say? Mark it down, let it be known. Because you will be asked this again someday. And if you stayed silent, if you made excuses, if you tried to fool yourself into believing this is appropriate presidential behavior, if you let it slide because this presidency might somehow line your pocketbook, then you will be remembered as complicit, as one who stood by and let America’s decency get dragged through the mud. And if you laughed, or if you smiled, or if you nodded your head in agreement, you will be remembered just as Trump will: as a racist, a fool and an absolute embarrassment.rhuppke@chicagotribune.com

Speaking as someone whose ancestors' country was also thought of as a shithole by the upper-class WASPS and by the lower-class whites who wanted to curry favor w/them - Trump and those who believe as he does can fuck right the fuck off. He and they are the shitty thinkers in this country - not those OF ANY NATION who believe in kindness, compassion and shared prosperity. "Did you look for excuses? Did you toss out a “Well, what about …” scenario you thought might take the heat off?
