I don’t have anyone blocked. I dont participate/post in political threads and rarely read them. I hadn’t looked at this one until today when it popped back up. Even on non political threads it seems the same small minority of peas can’t NOT ruin a thread for everyone with their repetitive bullshit. It’s the same 3-5 people posting in circles for pages and pages. I can’t help but think that based on their online actions, they must be some seriously miserable, close minded people. And I’m talking both sides. It must exhausting to be so angry/scared/superior/smug/intolerant.

Which is funny that I found a home here with the party that has been labeled intolerant and racist. Thank you for accepting this socially liberal leaning, non conformist, fiscally conservative, not Trump voting Mexican into your group. I always enjoy reading your posts, even if I don't always agree. I found your observation ironic and spot on!

I completely agree with this. I just do not get it. I was going to comment a few days ago, but as usual, the thread devolved and I lost interest. She apologized and instead of acting like an adult, Hogg kept at it and refused to accept the apology. He wants to be seen and treated as an adult until being an adult is too hard. I certainly don’t think Ingraham is being the bully in this situation. I’m not going to comment on the CNN video because I think people are arguing shades of grey, and regardless of what I think, someone is going to argue. I do have a question regarding the “caravan” of people that are planning to cross our border en masse from Mexico. I watched two different news stations this morning; one covered it almost exclusively and the other didn’t mention it at all. So, which is it? The sky is falling or nothing to see here? People don’t have to accept apologies. I personally wouldn’t accept her apology, either, because given her track record, it is most likely not sincere and her behavior won’t change. Not accepting an apology doesn’t make the person who needed to do the apologizing the hero and the person they offended the bad guy. That's true, but attempting to bully into submission those companies that didn't follow your boycott demand, kinda does make you a bad guy.

Good morning @scrubologist and friends Looks like many of us have checked out of this thread but I thought I’d stop and say hi anyway! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Good morning! (well, afternooon now) I had half of a good weekend, then I came down with a sore throat late Saturday night (it’s “just” a cold), which was just in time to cancel Easter plans yesterday and almost disrupt my first day of a new job today. Fortunately, it’s all classroom orientation stuff, and I was fine, but sheesh!! What stupid timing! I haven’t necessarily abandoned this thread, but, obviously, there are a few from the opposing side of the fence who can’t seem to respect this thread as a place for us to talk amongst ourselves. I can’t see the liberal catch-all thread unless I log out, but have conservatives or Trump supporters invaded that thread? Is there some sort of ‘payback’ going on that I can’t see? Oops, I'm sorry. I misunderstood that these threads were meant only for each side's participation and that we weren't to cross over. I had even said to someone that they shouldn't feel unwelcome here when discussions were going along so civilly after you started this thread. Sorry again for my misunderstanding.

David Hogg calls for advertisers to punish Laura Ingraham for tweeting what David Hogg, himself said about being rejected by colleges he applied to. She apologized, but he said not good enough, that he needs to take it further. She didn't say anything hateful, racist or even wrong. Was it necessary? No, but the only objectionable thing in her statement was stating what he himself said and calling it whining. Is a boycott of her really necessary under those circumstances? I don't think so, it's extremely, almost laughably mild. Especially when contrasted to the things he has said, but he insists on continuing shutting her down. Even those generally in agreement with him are saying he's taking it too far. What is the go to boycott response to opposing viewpoints in general going to do to political discourse in this country? I completely agree with this. I just do not get it. I was going to comment a few days ago, but as usual, the thread devolved and I lost interest. She apologized and instead of acting like an adult, Hogg kept at it and refused to accept the apology. He wants to be seen and treated as an adult until being an adult is too hard. I watched two different news stations this morning; one covered it almost exclusively and the other didn’t mention it at all. So, which is it? The sky is falling or nothing to see here? Their stated objective is to "abolish borders" and they "demand that the United States respect their right to dignified work".

I misunderstood that these threads were meant only for each side's participation and that we weren't to cross over. I had even said to someone that they shouldn't feel unwelcome here when discussions were going along so civilly after you started this thread. Sorry again for my misunderstanding. You didn't completely misunderstand my intent Even I told those with opposing views they were welcome to read and even ask questions here, but what I'd hoped to avoid was any personal insults, the kind of broad "you people" type insults, or the useless kind of bickering that doesn't discuss an idea but rather becomes about the people expressing the idea. Like I said to everyone before, if you're talking about the person typing the words, then you've lost sight of the point and I, personally, don't like those types of comments here. But, like I also said, it's an open message board and I(we) can't keep anyone from posting whatever they want. I did intend this thread to be primarily a place for the more conservative among us, just as the opposing catch-all thread is primarily their happy place. You, my dear, are a lightning rod as you know, and I have no doubt that there is at least one other Pea who has checked the little "follow" box in her profile so that she gets notified each time you post and has made it her mission to hound you because she feels that your posts are a threat to life as we know it. I also think there are those who follow her and then the merciless, repetitive bickering begins, everyone else gives up on those threads, and no further productive discussion takes place. What I have suggested before to everyone, is that on this thread, if someone like that comes in here only to antagonize or personally attack ignore them. You don't have to block them, but scroll on by. It's hard -- oh, believe me I know it is -- but just do it for this thread. I don't know if any of the more conservative Peas are posting on their catch-all thread, the last time I looked in that thread it was mainly two or three people copying and pasting article after article and tweet after tweet and I didn't see any of "us" there, but if you are, I'd suggest that if you want this thread to remain largely unmolested, you stop and leave theirs as the happy place they wanted it be. All other political threads are fair game. Have a good day, everyone!

ETA - when I say this place, I just wanted to clarify that I mean this thread. Folks on here don’t seem to want to talk about being fiscally conservative. I am a total fiscal conservative and would be interested in a financial discussion. But more likely after taxes are due. Locally I just had a conversation with one of our councilmen. It was regarding building a state of the art hockey arena in our town vs infrastructure improvements - I live in the first suburb established outside of Bflo NY and we need to improve our roads and water systems before an expensive hockey rink that will not turn a profit - none of the surrounding ones do. <----These kinds of conversations I enjoy. And thank you @scrubologist for setting the tone here.

anmore, I live in California, and for a fiscally conservative to live here, it's torture sometimes!! I hear you on priorities. Right now, California's priority seems to be tax the people until they become homeless! And we're stuck with "representatives" like Nancy Polosie and Dianne Feinstein!! They are the rich people that live in areas with no homeless around them, telling us "little people" to take care of them all.

My friend and his husband live in SF. I thought he recently posted that Feinstein will not run again or didn't get the endorsement. Our outgoing councilman (also a convicted wife beater, but you know, why would he resign???) wants this damn rink as his legacy. Not on my watch.

there are homeless people who live near diane feinstein.. I live in SF and pass by her house all the time and the homeless are everywhere. she is not isolated from them, and neither is nancy. Diane tried to work on the homeless problem when she was mayor. just saying.. if you live here, you are not in a bubble protected from the issue or the people.

Yes, the democratic party failed to endorce Feinstein! She isn't quite as out on the wall as Pelosi is, but as speaker of the house, Pelosi had more "influence" in the political arena. I was very happy to have her out of that position! And praying hard that she never gets there again. I think the Democratic party would be foolish to have her in that position again though. I think there is something seriously wrong (physically) with the lady. I wish her well, but I hope she retires.

I am so tired of being taxed to death in this state with nothing to show for it. Our roads are in desperate need of repair, we have dams breaking, our parks are in bad shape, schools are in poor condition, etc. Where in the heck are all of our taxes going to in this state? Other states with zero state income tax, but slightly higher property taxes (like Oregon) have roads that are wonderfully maintained, state parks are clean with beautiful facilities. You feel like their taxes are going to something! Or at least I do.

We in NYS are being taxed to death as well. link And dear old Andrew Cuomo is upset the the Feds removed the deductibility of state and local taxes (which includes property taxes) but G_d forbid he lower taxes....nooooooo we can't do that. Thankfully we have a cap of 2% on school taxes. We are the #2 state for highest paid teachers link. And we pay annually about $20k per student in public school. Private school costs less in tuition. Unfortunately there was a measure to increase the # of SRO's in the schools but the democratic senators prefer more gun control. For perspective, my house is assessed in the mid $50's. I paid $5704 in property taxes last year. That does not include how much we pay in income tax. Or in my county, the 8.75% sales tax.

You feel like their taxes are going to something! Or at least I do. Oregon roads suck. The freeways our woefully inadequate and dangerous. Potholes are a huge problem on surface streets and when citizens try to fix them themselves (because Portland) they are arrested. Portland Public schools are nothing to be proud of. I blame that on the district office though, they haven’t had a successful superintendent in eons. They actually paid one man 300,000 just to go away. Imagine what could have been done with that money in the classroom. Property taxes in Oregon are all over the place, Portland is the biggest city but neighboring cities (and I mean cities actually next to Portland) actually have higher property taxes then their neighbors in Portland. Schools buildings in Portland have lead in the drinking water and they are taking their own sweet time fixing it. In the meantime they are paying for bottled drinking water for each contaminated building. It is absurd. Give me Washington and their sales tax any day of the week. The problem isn’t funding it is how the funds are spent. And my word, don’t get me started on the homeless problem in Portland.

pelosi is not going to be dropped by the democratic party. she raises a ton of money, and for all her faults, when she was speaker she got stuff passed. she is used as a whipping boy for the republicans.. but she is too effective at her job to be dismissed. anyway.. what are the bad values she holds? this catholic grandmother? they are the values many hold in CA...

Because Trump. Liberal gently wading in here to comment - hope it’s okay. I think there here are many issues where the right and the left aren’t that far apart. I feel that with Trump’s seemingly lack of compassion, wanting the wall and his prejudices towards non Caucasians are what make his comments on immigration so different. Im also a Californian so I’ll chime in about our taxes... The liberals I know are unhappy with the current financial situation in California. I’m happy to pay taxes, in fact I have no issue with high taxes. What I’d like to see is some thought put in to where the money is spent. High vehicle and gas taxes are fine with me - but how come our roads and bridges are falling apart - let us see the benefits of our taxes -where is the money going. Taxes for schools - great - but repair the schools. I hope I didn’t overstep here. I’ve been enjoying reading this thread. Just wanted to share my thoughts.
