..choice of wearing a white pantsuit--copying Hillary? www.nytimes.com/2018/01/30/fashion/state-of-the-union-melania-trump-white-suit-black-clothes.html...from the middle of the article: Of course, it’s possible Mrs. Trump chose the suit, an ivory Christian Dior style with cropped trousers and curvaceous jacket, to stand out against the sea of black worn by the Democratic Women’s Working Group and its supporters, following the donning of black at the Golden Globes in honor of Time’s Up and #MeToo. (Though many of those same women wore white to her husband’s first address to a joint session of Congress last year.) It’s possible Mrs. Trump did it to show solidarity with the female members of the G.O.P., who had been urged to wear patriotic red, white and blue, as were the members of the Cabinet. Many of the men sported ties that matched the blue ones worn by the president and Speaker Paul D. Ryan, and the red one on Vice President Mike Pence. It’s possible she just liked the color, and what it symbolizes about new beginnings (also, of course, purity, but that takes us back to the idea something else might be going on). It’s possible she had no idea that Maria Grazia Chiuri, the artistic director of Christian Dior, made waves in her first collection with a best-selling T-shirt announcing “we should all be feminists.” It’s possible. But given that clothes became a symbolic dividing line during this State of the Union like seemingly never before — the members of the Congressional Black Caucus also expressed their point of view through their attire, with some wearing kente cloth and black outfits in reference to, and repudiation of, the president’s denigrating comment about Africa and Haiti this month — it’s hard to believe that the potential (and, indeed, probable) interpretations of her choice escaped the first lady. =========The article goes on........

Eh. I think sometimes a pantsuit is just a pantsuit.

But it is kind of thought provoking considering she chose to wear a pussy bow blouse, wasn’t it during one of the debates, when all of the women accusing Trump of sexual misconduct were speaking out?

I thought it was just a nice outfit that looked good on her. I didn't read anymore into it. I would enjoy her memoire if she comes out with one.

As intelligent as some have claimed she is, I don't think she's smart enough to use her clothes to make a statement. She wears a lot of white so I think she just likes how she looks in it. While she's pretty and looks great in just about everything, I think she's boring.

Honestly, I think she comes across as very uninterested in politics. I don't see her doing anything except the bare minimum. I sincerely doubt she was making a statement with her choice of clothing. And let me be clear, I do not think that is a bad way to be at all. I think with as volatile as Trump is, I certainly wouldn't want to put myself in the position to have to defend him. I'd be very cautious and quiet too.

Personally, I believe that is giving her too much credit. I think she simply wears what she/her stylist thinks looks good on her.
She knew what kind of man she married, and I don't believe she cares about politics at all, I also don't believe she thinks about it in any detail and certainly not enough to select her clothes to make some sort of silent statement.
She has shown she is 'tone deaf' to what is going on around her in the past, like saying her cause will be cyber bullying. I don't think she reads situations nor do I think she cares to. I do think she cares about not looking like a fool, which is why she posted a photo of herself with the handsome young man in uniform on her Twitter account to mark one year since the election, instead of one with her fat, old husband just as it was revealed he paid off a porn star.
But she wanted to be a model and an actress, so no doubt the most driving motivation for her when it comes to clothes is picking something she thinks she looks good in...no matter what other crap is swirling around her (ignore the 'times up' stuff, ignore the shithole countries remark, ignore the fact that other women are wearing black or sack cloths etc, just think "hey I look great in this")...and as much as I dislike her, she does look good in that suit. So I guess she achieved her goal there.

She looks stunning in anything, I could care less about her statements, it is her husband who is taking the country down.

Stylist or advisor: "Melania, a white suit may be taken as a political statement because..."
Melania: "Eh, I don't care."

She certainly looks better than any first lady we've had in a long time no matter what she wears. (IMO)

Actually I think it more like: Stylist: you look stunning in white melania: ok I honestly don’t think there’s anyone in there who cares enough about politics to check outfits/meaning/ or if any other first lady has already said the exact same words in a speech. The just don’t care.

I am sorry but that suit was ugly, especially the pants.
Even if she were making a statement , her husband is to stupid to pick up on it.

She certainly looks better than any first lady we've had in a long time no matter what she wears. (IMO) ...especially when looking up her hoo-ha or when she has her fake naked boobs hanging out, we've certainly seen a LOT more of Melania than any other first lady ever. But somehow I doubt that's positive thing. Typical racist bullshit from you.

Can’t say that she doesn’t wear clothes nicely, is she beautiful? Sure, why not? Classy—nope—the naked photos were not becoming of a First Lady.
I think Michele Obama has been one of the classiest First Lady (both in dress and demeanor) in a long, long time.
She was beautiful, eloquent, she had passion for helping others, and she worked hard as First Lady. Those qualities outshine any “just the dress/clothing” opinions for me.

I think she found an outfit that she looked fabulous in and went with that. She would look fabulous in a burlap bag. I don’t think there is anything to the pant suit conspiracy though. Now, who she is following on Twitter as well as not riding with her husband to the speech is probably a big eff you to DT, but I think the pant suit is just a pant suit.

I doubt it. I think her stylist presented it as an option, and I think she thought she looked great in it (she did). I don’t think she is all that interested in politics or playing along when people wear certain colors to represent whatever movement they’re standing for.

I didn't read the article but I think she probably just wore that because she likes the color. She wears white/ivory a lot and the color suits her. As for a pant suit versus a dress, it is the middle of winter and she was going to be getting up and down a lot in her seat never knowing when the camera would pan her way. It seems a sensible choice so you aren't worried about how a skirt will fall when you sit down.
