Does Grassley get to provide commentary on the Democrats' lines of questioning? That doesn't seem right.

Dammit. Of course Lauren shows up. It’s irritating to have to keep blocking her various IDs, but it’s worth it. On another note: Grassley is an ass.

Does Grassley get to provide commentary on the Democrats' lines of questioning? That doesn't seem right. It is crystal clear, and has been for some time, that the republicans all the way to the trumpster fire of a president do not care at all about being partisan. they think their shit does not stink and are the ones who have been obstructionists, demonizing, divisive, and destructive. i will never vote for a republican again, ever.

Are we going to let this thread be about the testimony and what's going on or are we going to have it dissolve into personal attacks?
I've joined the discussion. Others have chosen instead to just take personal attacks at me.

I also feel like the way she's d escribing these events from a psychology/scientific standpoint is fan-freaking-tastic. It's got much more impact than just "words". I'm not sure about this, actually... I think it might make her more 'clinical' sounding and take away the personal effect. That was just from hearing it on the radio, though-- now that I'm at work, I'm watching live online, but they're taking a break. (although it might be her way of coping; and I DO agree that it helps explain WHY she remembers some things SO VERY CLEARLY. That might be helpful in the Republicans' taking what she says seriously... because she, as an individual, DOES remember, and she, as an EXPERT, can explain WHY she remembers.)

Fifteen is still a child in so many ways. The idea that she could or should have responded with the maturity and foresight of an adult is ridiculous. I particularly like the folks who say (54% of Republicans in one poll) Kavanaugh should still be confirmed if this is true, because youthful indiscretion. But the same folks fault a 15 year old girl - the victim - for not acting with the courage many adults don’t have to report this right away. Absolutely. This is the central - I don’t even know the word, maybe conceit? - of how people view no/delayed reporting of sexual violence. Fifty four percent? Good God.

I need to go to bed (1240 am) but I can’t tear myself away. I feel kind of sick watching. Thank you, Dr Ford, and I am sorry. Sorry for this world in 2018 I guess, sorry for my girls growing up in it, just sorry. But also damn hopeful because some of use will not shut up anymore!

How horrific to live with the memory of the laughing. Watching and hearing her voice recalling her trauma is giving me goosebumps. My heart goes out to her for standing up and telling her experience.

I cannot even tell you the depths of bravery Dr. Ford is coming from. Having trouble finding words to portray what an incredible woman she is.

My other problem is that she put forth 4 people Ford claims were witnesses and none of them have backed her story, including one who said she wasn't even at the event.

I am watching, but I wish I wasn't. It's so eerie the way she describes her assault, the things she remembers, the details, mirror almost exactly my experience.
It's so hard to watch. I don't understand the people who are calling in and saying it's so clear she is lying. In my mind, it's so clear she is not lying.

I can understand why she might "go clinical", as a way of coping/dealing/removing her 15 year old child self from the horror of sexual assault to be able to talk about it.
I can imagine it is what children who have been sexually abused by relatives/close friends go through when they have to be in the same room with those who have abused them--the children cope with having to be in the same place as their abusers.

Does Grassley get to provide commentary on the Democrats' lines of questioning? That doesn't seem right. I'd agree. But they're not questioning. They're making speeches. So in that case, I have no problem with him also making speeches to set the record straight about errors in the Dems speeches.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein just asked Christine Blasey Ford how she knew that Brett Kavanaugh was the boy who attacked her.
Here's how she responded:
"The same way I'm sure I'm talking to you right now. Basic memory functions. And also just the level of norepinephrine and epinephrine in the brain that sort of, as you know, encodes that neurotransmitter encodes memories into the hippocampus so the trauma related experience is locked there where as other details kind of drift.
Feinstein followed up with this question: "So what you're telling us is this could not be a case of mistaken identity?"
"Absolutely not," Ford said.

Fox News correspondents’ comments:
Fox News anchor Chris Wallace said the early part of Christine Blasey Ford's testimony in front of the Senate was so far a "disaster" for Republicans because Ford came off as a credible witness.
"Extremely emotional, extremely raw, and extremely credible," Wallace said during a break in the hearing.
He added that Ford was "obviously traumatized by an event" and said that "this is a disaster for Republicans."
Martha MacCallum, anchor of FNC's "The Story," said she felt that Republicans cannot feel that the hearing has gone well for them, noting that the format of having a lawyer ask questions in between questions from Democratic senators did not seem to be working.
"You have to believe that the Republican senators right now are asking themselves whether this was a good idea," MacCallum said.
