****Adding a trigger warning as this thread will likely contain discussion of the disturbing attack****
I didn’t see one already started - if I missed it my apologies. Can someone flag this as politics?

Grassley’s already sounding like an ass. His opening comments about being fair are already out the window.

I thought that was rude for Grassley to bark at Feinstein.

Grassley saying attys for Ramirez and Swetnick never cooperated with the committee regarding substantiating the allegations is not true.
Ramirez’s atty was interviewed yesterday and he said he’d been going back and forth with the committee trying to schedule a phone interview for Ramirez. When one was finally scheduled, he said ONLY the Dems in the committee were present during the interview – none of the Repubs participated.
Avenatti, representing Swetnick, had already submitted an affidavit signed by her to the judiciary committee and they were supposed to “study” the affidavit first. Avenatti said his side has been demanding the opportunity to testify.

She just began reading her statement.

My heart is with her. Like some peas here, I was also a victim of a violent sexual assault. It took five years before my attacker was brought to trial. I was on the stand for two full days and it was horrendous. While the trial was public, nothing like this. I pray for her peace to say what she needs to say.

She said how they, she and her family, have suffered over the last few weeks. Since the reveal on Sept 16th, that is ONLY 11 days, NOT weeks to get this all together. And they have been saying that she was delaying things.

I certainly hope that they listen. I’m afraid that they won’t. I was impressed with her bravery. It is horrifying that she has been threatened to the point of moving out of her house.

OMG. I already don't like how they cut off the questioning between Ford and Mitchell. I feel like this 5 min rule is not right and could possibly throw Ford off. She is nervous, understandably.

I also feel like the way she's describing these events from a psychology/scientific standpoint is fan-freaking-tastic. It's got much more impact than just "words".

My heart breaks for Dr. Ford. She is not seasoned for this grandstanding and deflecting that the Senators are capable of. She is trying to be so gracious. I hope this experience is somewhat freeing for her.

I’m at work and so am just checking Twitter for updates between classes.
What strikes me most is the repeated reminder that she was 15 at the time. I can easily imagine a shy, smart, slightly dorky girl like my 15 year old daughter finding herself invited to an impromptu gathering with some “popular” kids and being thrilled. I can imagine her accepting a drink or two to fit in. And I can imagine her being much too ashamed and embarrassed to tell anyone what happened if she was attacked like this.
Fifteen is still a child in so many ways. The idea that she could or should have responded with the maturity and foresight of an adult is ridiculous. I particularly like the folks who say (54% of Republicans in one poll) Kavanaugh should still be confirmed if this is true, because youthful indiscretion. But the same folks fault a 15 year old girl - the victim - for not acting with the courage many adults don’t have to report this right away.

Yep---they know that they are going to be all over the media, so they have to ensure that they "set their narrative" from the get go--which is jam packed full of lies and totally untrue information. Fuckers.

It is so easy for these fuckers of men to cast aside the fact that she was only 15 years old. They don't respect women, treat them like inferior beings, give them jobs in the White House after they have been charged with sexual assaults and harassment. Their actions will always speak louder than the trite bullshit press release sound bits that they give.
