We spend at least 2 long weekends at the beach each year and usually a week in the summer. I live 10 miles from the beach, but it takes about 20 minutes to get to the beach because there is no road straight there. Our county is putting in a new bike path that will go straight over to the beach and my 8 yr old can't wait. LOL I've tried to explain to her that we will have to work up to riding a bike 10 miles. We are up to 5 miles right now.
I would love to take my dog, but she goes crazy swimming and biting at the waves. Last time we took her she got what my DH called swamp butt, because she swallowed so much seawater biting at the waves.

Hmm, once a decade??
It's not close, and my DH is more of a mountain/woods kinda guy.
But I've been told it's a fabulous vacation with kids because it's wears them out. Lol.

Looks like fun! Are you on the Atlantic Ocean? We would love to live near the beach! We go to Ocean City for a month and to Florida for a week each year. Would love to live close to the beach.

I would say never but that's not quite true. I mean, I visited Coney Island a couple of years ago, not that I would have stepped foot in that water. And I was technically at the beach in St Augustine, Fl for about 20 minutes in 2010 when I was there for my nephew's wedding. But before that I haven't been since I was a little girl visiting my grandmother in Georgia. Being in a land locked state makes it difficult. Everyone's pictures are gorgeous.

Since we live in ND it isn't too often, but we get to enjoy the lake.

The beach is 3 blocks away from my house..on the shores of Lake Erie. I won't swim in it though...too much bacterial contamination for MY liking.

We live where the red arrow is, so we walk to Waikiki (this is actually Magic Island) about once a week, taking wine and a blanket, to watch the sun set:

During the summer, we go about 3-4 times a week. I also like to ride my bike down there and just SEE the water. It calms something in me. See why? Just BEAUTIFUL!

Well considering I'm stuck in the middle of the US in good ol Nebraska my answer would be 5 times a year. We go to Florida every February and spend at least 5 days on the beach.
I envy those of you who have it at your back door!

I am putting you on ignore now. I am seriously craving a trip to HI, and this is not helping!

I grew up near Jones Beach in Long Island, NY and would go at least once a week. I'm now living in CT, about an hour from Long Island Sound and the ocean, so don't go very often.

I have always lived in Southern Cali and rarely go to the beach. I am not a beach person. I dislike all the sand. Even as a kid, i always preferred a pool than having sand everywhere. I am weird, I know.

It was not an easy adjustment to move here as one would think!

4-5 times a year which isn't enough considering it's just an hour away. Every time we go I say we need to go more often! I love living near the coast, and wish we were closer. We lived 5-10 min. from the beach in Massachusetts and South Carolina. We went a lot more then.

I live 8 hours away from the ocean. We went to the "beach" by a large lake a couple of weeks ago. I am not really a beach person.
I was born and raised close to the ocean (both Pacific and Atlantic.) I even lived near the beach (under a 5 minute drive) as an adult. As an adult living close to the ocean I only made it to the beach a handful of times a year.
The pictures in this thread are beautiful. I am glad you had the chance to spend the day as a family at the beach. Good luck finding those sand dollars on your next visit.

I live in between Tampa and Orlando so we go to the beach alot. We were just in Daytona over the weekend. I don't like actually going in the water but just laying under an umbrella listening to the waves crash.

DD (closest person) splashing in the water at Myrtle Beach last month. We live 2.5 hrs from the beach. I would love to be closer.

I think I've only been to a beach a handful of times in my life. While, it's something I enjoy for a short time, I find it incredibly, hot, salty, and miserable. If I were to go on a beach vacation, I would plan snorkeling, parasailing or some fun activity. To just sit and read a book on a beach is a time waster for me.
I've been to lakes and reservoirs and did boating more than going to a beach beside the ocean.

I go to the beach every chance I get. I was at Ocracoke Island earlier this week. Luckily I left before Arthur made its appearance. We're lucky to have a home on the Intercoastal waterway in NC. Which I call the beach but is really a river. I make the trip from Raleigh at least every other week. My favorite ocean beach these days is Atlantic beach since it's so close.

I live in San Diego (and grew up here) and I've only been to the beach a handful of times in my lifetime. I don't like walking in sand, so I don't go as an adult. As a child, my mom didn't like the beach so I only went a handful of times growing up. At one point we lived blocks from the beach and still never went.
I've always loved the pool, though. Growing up, from 4th grade on, I was at the pool most days after school / weekend (supervising myself - my mom couldn't be bothered).

Beautiful beaches! I get to the beach a lot because we live 5 mins away from the coast. I have a choice of 5 good swimming beaches close by and a few more a short drive away. I cross the harbour every day for work and definitely miss it when I don't see the water. This is the closest one:

I grew up going to the beach every summer to visit cousins (we live a 6 hour drive away). After marriage and kids the times lessened and are now almost nonexistent. We just can't afford it. The last time we went was 2009. My heart yearns to see the ocean and feel sand between my toes again but it is what is, a financial hardship we just can't seem to overcome.

Once every year or two. It's a four hour drive to the closest beach (Galveston). I love the sound of the ocean!

Grew up on LI so the beach was in our backyard so to speak. Now we live 1/2 the year in FL, near the beach but only seem to get there a few times a year. I really don't like to swim in the water, but love to walk the beach. Just so calming.

I'm about 20-25 minutes from the Long Island Beaches (Atlantic Ocean) and I go maybe 2x a Summer. I am so NOT a beach girl (I'm in the minority here). I'd much rather sit at my pool 3 feet from my back door.
