Disney Springs, and he chose to eat at The Polite Pig Thank you! One of the things that is still undecided is "where to eat" the day we arrive. I was thinking Disney Springs, but wasn't sure about location. We are going to "Hoop-Dee-Doo" the next night though. will the bbq at polite pig make us not want the food at hoop-de-doo? Also - American friends! - in Canada we don't have some chains like "Sonic", "in-and-out" and "white castle" (I think those are 3 examples? and I'm probably missing many) Is there any "chain" that we should try for fun? I KNOW it's fast food, don't worry! Is Olive Garden still any good (loved it years ago but haven't been recently)? We do have Chipotle, Chik-fil-A (won't go), 5 guys (love it) and the more standard options.

kitbop Of the fast food places you listed, I'd recommend Sonic if a drive-in would be a unique experience for you. Their drinks and shakes are a bit different than most. I love the limeade. At Disney Springs, we loved tacos at Frontera Cocina and also had a great experience at Raglan Road. They had Irish dancers when we were there.

Do you know of any shuttle, Uber, or other transport services that can get us AND out scooters from the airport to the hotel? This is not DL but my mom used a scooter when we went to WDW a few years ago. There was a setting in uber for getting a bigger car so the scooter would fit in the back. I haven't used Uber since that trip but you could download the app and mess around with it.

We do have Chipotle, Chik-fil-A (won't go), 5 guys (love it) and the more standard options. I have never done the Hoop-de-doo Review, but I took a quick glance at their menu. It looks like their two main proteins are fried chicken and ribs. At The Polite Pig, you can order sandwiches (turkey BLT, pulled pork, brisket) and things from the smoker (chicken, salmon, ribs, beef tips... the delicious list goes on and on). There is a lot more variety in sides at The Polite Pig, as well. I think they are different enough, for sure. Fun fact, my son chose that place because he wanted to try food at a Michelin rated restaurant. So, so good. The cheddar sausage was a favorite among our group! If you go to White Castle, go early! That is the only White Castle in the entire state, and it is popular. It is also right next to Portillo's, which is delicious Chicago style food. Italian beef sandwiches, burgers, and they put cake in their milkshakes! Also delicious.

One of the things that is still undecided is "where to eat" the day we arrive. Where are you staying? Some of the resorts have good food, even quick service places. And if you're not going to the parks that day, there are some places where you can see the fireworks from a resort for free.

I have been having a hard time with making layouts for my disney photos I'm working on.
So I went through my stuff and I have almost nothing left. I bought over $50 of the simple stories stuff last year and it's almost all gone. I have some pieces of the 12X12 paper that I cut up left -- just a few of the "cards." I have some weird stickers from the 12X12 sheets (I don't recognize the images so maybe they are DL). I have a lot of the Paper Person die cuts because those just aren't working for me.
That's it!
So I looked on ACOT and scrapbook.com and bought a few of the things I hadn't that I will use.
I didn't realize I had used up so much stuff but I did fill an entire album so it makes sense.
Shopping is also very fun.

Shopping is also very fun. Well, I don’t know if any of these suggestions will appeal to you (or anyone else), but here are a few things I have used or plan to use on my Disney pages: If you haven’t already thought of this, you could make and add “hidden Mickeys” to your pages among the bling, clusters, embellishments, etc. some bling would work really well for creating hidden Mickeys. Paper Wizard sells some fabulous (but pricey) laser cut titles for Disney pages. They have a lot of layers, but they are detailed and gorgeous. You do have to glue the pieces together, so if you want fast and quick, you might not like them. They really look fabulous on a layout, though. When I bought them, I thought they were already glued together. Nope. It’s a temporary adhesive. Also, if you have an electronic cutter, there are a surprising number of Silhouette designs that work for Disney pages. They are usually pretty simple, but they can be jazzed up, depending on your style. Silhouette files offer SVG versions if you have a non-Silhouette electronic cutter. Cricut offers official Disney designs to paper piece. You can also use Disney clip art off the internet. Print the clip art on various colors of card stock, fussy cut the pieces, and glue the appropriate colored pieces onto a background for a paper pieced design. Or if you have en electronic cutter and are adept at using it, you can import the clip art into your software and let the machine do the hard work of cutting for you. Most of my suggestions are, unfortunately, a bit time intensive.

My silhouette is really old and the print and cut feature either isn't there or doesn't work but I figured out a trick for it so that really is something I can do. I really love all of these ideas. Will definitely also spend some time in the silhouette store. Feel free to share links to the designs you like!

Since no one in my real life cares about Disney I thought I'd share this here.
So next week when I go to Disney, my childhood friend (who I've not really been close with for the last 20 years) is coming along. We had a room booked at Pop and a band mom friend of mine was going to stay in a friend's condo and we were going to hang out the whole time.
Well after seeing how much all the Ubering would be to and from the condo, she started looking at places. In the end it was cheaper for her for us to just get a larger room for all three of us.
So instead of Pop we are staying at Saratoga Springs. It's a nice resort next to Disney Springs and it has a great pool. Best of all -- a hot tub for my aching feets at the end of the day. I think in the end this will be more fun and way easier to navigate since we won't have to deal with all the traffic and "where are you."
Moms trip in 5 days! Ha.

They do have fun drink options - Cherry Limeade is my favourite. In-and-Out is west coast only White Castle - I can't reccommend - we stopped at one in Chicago some years back and the food wasn't very good and we all had gastric distress afterwards. If you're looking for a place at Downtown Disney for quick food - we love Cookes of Dublin (fish and chips) and then Vivoli il Gelato for gelato afterwards

As a Canadian transplant, highly recommend the Sonic experience for the kids. Some of the car hops (at least here in Texas) still do it the service to the car on the roller skates too. Very unique experience for the kids.

I'm going to give a little trip report cause I love reading other people's.
Flew SW to Orlando from Pittsburgh and it was all smooth. Lyft to Saratoga Springs was about $30 - $35. Great driver. From Brazil so we talked about it (I've been there with students).
It was really early so my room wasn't ready. I got pizza at the Artists Palette and it was really good. While eating my room was ready. They had me on the ground which I do not like so I requested a higher floor and asked if a water view as possible. We had a preferred room but I did not want to be near the "action." I wanted Congress Park because it looked closer to the water. The CM was like, let me see what I can do and put me in this amazing room on the 4th floor on the water of Disney Springs. I had no idea it was so close! I could see the volcano erupt, the balloon, the paddlefish boat. Bands were playing and we could hear all the disney. It was great.
I spent the afternoon in the pool and relaxed for the first time in weeks.
(Last minute we switched from Pop Century to Saratoga so that we could all three stay together as my friend's condo was no longer going to work out for her. She paid the difference in cost).
My friend showed up that evening and we walked over to Disney Springs for dinner and some shopping.
The next morning my childhood friend showed up and we all spent the day at Epcot.
More later.

Ok, EPCOT.
We got there late as we were waiting for the last of our trio to arrive from the airport but we had a fun morning riding spaceship earth, living with the land, and trying to spot Te Fiti behind the scaffolding (no luck). We shopped a lot then headed to the countries for snacks from flower and garden. I don't know where the day went. It was actually very pleasant and at times I was chilly. I brought a thin jacket and only took it off for about an hour in the afternoon. It drizzled on and off but was clear for the fireworks. They got genie+ and rode Frozen, Soarin, and the new Remy ride. The fireworks they have now are really good. I hadn't seen fireworks in epcot in many years due to exhaustion and rain.
Late in the afternoon we had to decide whether we would go back to the room or tough it out. My friend landed a last minute res at Coral Reef so we ate there. It was really beautiful. I loved watching the animals. As a vegetarian it's odd to me that people are eating seafood next to where the fish are swimming around but that's for another thread.
At one point we rode Figment. They had never been. It's such a weird ride. We laughed and laughed.
So this day was pretty much about snacks and shopping.
Thursday was a resort day. We had a super slow morning then took the bus to Hollywood studios and walked to board walk for lunch. From there we walked to mini golf. It was a million degrees and the wait was an hour so we got the next lyft back to the resort. We spent some time in the pool and relaxed then went to the Poly for dinner. We watched the fireworks from the beach. My friends had never done that so it was a treat for all of us. I think if I want to play the Fantasia mini golf I would go there first by lyft or drive if I had a car. There was parking for swan and dolphin right there. It wasn't a far walk but it did take a long time.

Last post, I promise!
I forgot to mention that my friends ate at Ohana at the Poly (I didn't like the veg option so I got noodles from capt. cooks and watched the ukelele guy while eating at Trader Sams patio). They loved the food. Found it top notch and worth the price tag. We didn't end up making it down to Trader Sam's grog grotto but there's always next time!
Our Magic Kingdom day was great.
We got there early and watched the welcome show. I was worried they wouldn't like it but everyone was in tears after so it was a good bet. Don't judge middle-aged women for tearing up at Mickey.
We rode Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, and Small World all back to back with no lines then headed to Fantasyland for tots and Le Fous Brew at Gaston's. We rode the train to Frontierland where I ran into my daughter! I was so happy to see her. Gave her a huge hug and chatted with the chaperones for a minute.
We watched the tiki birds then they went to Big Thunder while I headed to the circle/hub to grab our parade spot.
I had an amazing spot right in front of the castle and we got gorgeous pics of the marching band with the castle and bright blue sky and white puffy clouds behind it. It was a moment. Definitely glad I didn't miss it. What a once in a lifetime experience.
After the parade we went back to the room for a break.
We headed back to the park for some more rides and the fireworks in the evening. It was the first time I had been there that they were not allowing anymore people into the hub. They were routing people down main street. We had LL for Jungle Cruise at 9:30 so we stayed near the Crystal Palace to watch. It was still good but I was grumpy for the bad view.
We shopped and shopped after jungle cruise and did some serious damage.
Saturday we went to Disney Springs in the morning then headed to the airport. My flight was delayed a few hours and I didn't get home until 3:30 am.
I think I'm all caught up with most of work and most of the sleep I lost.
I have to say I like going with my family better but I absolutely had a blast with friends -- one friend from childhood who I haven't spent more than 5 hours with since the 1990s and one friend who I know from meetings at work and like one party at a mutual friend's house. So who knows how it could have gone but we really had a great time. We are all crazy disney lovers.

I finished my TN and will be posting to Instagram in bits: http://instagram.com/p/CrdnDS4uAa1 I don’t really like the cover so I’m thinking of messing around with it a bit. I also have the “album” to house it. I’m going to put my plans and some big ephemera in there. Just need to make it fit. I loved this so much. Anybody have any trips coming up? We wanted to go to Paris next year but with the Olympics we decided to wait.

I don't think there were too many Orange Bird things I didn't buy when I was there. And so glad we found the mural. It was near Jock Lindsay's. That place has an amazing theme and great food. I highly recommend if you're in Disney Springs. I was also excited that I found the orangebird outside the Skipper Canteen. He was a bit dusty and neglected though.

Last fall, we went to WDW to celebrate our anniversary. Loved it! Fast forward to this spring, and two of our sons are planning a trip to Disneyland with their wives, since they have business to conduct near there later this year. They talked us into joining them. Our DD, their only sister, and her DH, love Disneyland, and when they heard we were going, decided to come, too, so it’s turning into almost a family reunion. Only our oldest son and his family won’t be joining us.
DH and I haven’t been to Disneyland since our honeymoon, decades ago. We’ve got our plane tickets, and our hotel (only a block away). Hopefully we shouldn’t have to deal with a hurricane or any other truly nasty weather, although it sounds like rain is a probable issue.
Any special tips?

I don't really know if masks help but if they do it a well fitting N95 would be best. Disneyland is in the middle of a VERY large city/suburban sprawl area. If there is a fire it won't be super close, but some smoke and ash can still be an issue just depends.

Smoke can trigger an asthma attack for me. Do masks help with that? If so, what kind are most effective? N95 for sure would help with smoke, we used the ones with the respirator on them when we were covered in smoke for weeks at a time and they were great. So we haven't been to Disneyland since March of 2020 (4 days before everything shut down) and I think we're finally ready to go be where the people are. Are the parks as busy as everyone says? Like is there a better time to go? We used to go in February around my birthday and Chinese NY and it wasn't very busy during the week. I've heard there's really no good time to go and to be prepared to wait or pay for the Genie+ to get on the popular rides.
