Neither me nor my youngest can have gluten or oats (oat flour is often used in place of wheat in baked goods), and Disney staff have always been soooooo kind and accommodating. They will pull out the biggest honkin binders in the world to show each item’s ingredients. They’ll triple check orders and instructions.
They have always gone out of their way to help and are always so kind and patient and never seem bothered even the tiniest bit to do so (my toxic trait is being hypersensitive to feeling like a bother).

Thank you, everyone. We went through the restaurant lists before my asking here.
Our experience at WDW was that some sit down restaurants could accommodate us, some couldn’t or didn’t do so well. The quick service couldn’t, because most of their food is prepped ahead of time. The salt restriction is like an allergy in a way. He gets edema really bad if he eats more than just a tiny bit of salt, and when I say “tiny bit,” I am talking about only a pinch of salt total per day. That is essentially nothing in today’s food world, because most food has some natural salt. When we went to WDW, even requesting his food be prepared without any salt, he still had a lot of swelling in his legs.
He had a heart attack that nearly killed him 2 years ago. Even the tiniest amounts of salt add up really fast, and medication can only help so much.
It’s not an unusual restriction these days, so I was hoping for names of restaurants that had worked for someone else (who had gone with family that needed the salt restrictions), at the Disney California parks. It would save time, because even after going through the list (which we have already done), and choosing sit down restaurants, it’s no guarantee that they can accommodate his needs.
Our food experience at WDW was mixed. We are hoping this time goes better, but we already know that quick service restaurants aren’t an option.

requesting his food be prepared without any salt, he still had a lot of swelling in his legs. I don't have any issues that I know of and my feet are super swollen by the end of the day too. All the heat and the walking (and the abject humidity). I can't imagine. I'm glad you were able to get some foods though! I have the weirdest sensitivities to foods and the list is crazy. Most of the time vegetarian options are spicy or experimental. So there might be one option on a menu but it's covered with red peppers. So annoying. I can pick off lots of things but sometimes it's all mixed in.

That is really tough, when it's an additive that's the problem. My best guess for Restaurants in DL to try would be Blue Bayou, Plaza Inn may be hit/miss, Carnation Cafe I know does a rather plain fish. In CA - I'd try Wine country Trattoria. The only thing I can think of is maybe one of the restaurants at the hotel, like the Grand Califorian.
I still try calling and seeing what other ideas they may have.
Good Luck!

And I hadn’t thought about the hotel restaurants, so I especially appreciate your mentioning that option. blemon, we both have our own mobility scooters, which we will be taking, so the walking isn’t as big of an issue, thankfully, just the salt. There is no way either of us could manage all the walking required. I have a lot of weird food sensitivities, too, so you have my sympathy. I have figured out what mine are, thankfully, and can usually figure out what I can eat. If necessary, I can always eat off the kid’s menu, LOL. Not so for my DH.

We have a cousin who has really, really severe Crohn's Disease. (As in, if you made a sandwich with bread on the counter you can't fix his food there or he can/will become violently ill.) They went to Disneyland just this month and (WDW a couple years ago) and they were able to work with dining to get him safe food he could eat. I'd explain when I call them this isn't just that he isn't supposed to eat salt (not good for him) he has severe allergic reaction to too much salt. This isn't a diet preference or fad diet, this is a MEDICAL necessity. There should be something they can do, you may have limited choices, but they should be able to work with you. I went to website and found this under Food Allergy.... When to Contact Us in Advance Please contact us in advance if you or anyone in your party has either 4 or more allergy-friendly requests, requires pureed meals, or adheres to a medically-restrictive diet (such as very low protein), contact Special.Diets@Disneyland.com to ask for a Special Dietary Request Form.
We request that you don’t contact us any sooner than 14 days prior to your arrival. With the information you provide, the Special Diets team will assist you in navigating the dining process, which may include providing the restaurants you intend to visit with advance notice.
Don't know what they will say, but it couldn't hurt to talk to them. Good Luck!

@scrapnana - I would definitely reach to Disney -my experience was some time ago (2009) but we were dealing with milk, soy, egg, and corn allergies and they were able to accommodate us (and well enough that I didn't feel deprived or like I didn't get the full dining experience and DD didn't get sick so yay -I was nursing her still and she was allergic even through the breast milk so I was on the restricted diet)

Please forgive me if this has come up here before, but it’s just a bit too daunting to go through all 42 pages of this thread.
Are any of you pin traders? When we went to WDW in 2017, we bought some pins off Amazon to trade. They were knock offs, but we didn’t really know any better back then.
When DH and I went to WDW in the fall of 2022, I took only genuine Disney pins to trade, but when we got to the parks, it was obvious that most of the pins on the pin boards were fake. I still found some fun pins, but the real pins had definitely cost me more than the fakes.
We’re going to Disneyland for a family reunion. We all want to do some pin trading, and we’ve already had a bit of a conversation over this, as to whether it’s okay to take the Amazon “bargain” pins. My son (that goes to Disney parks fairly often) takes the bargain pins for trading. I looked at the listing for the pins he bought recently for trading, and in the comments below, someone commented that 90% of the pins at the parks are fake. I’m guessing that early in the day, the pins are genuine, but that quickly changes as people trade their cheap pins for the ones on the pin boards. Or maybe Disney just recycles the pins they get?
Right now, I am leaning toward taking both types of pins, so I can trade real pins for real pins, and fake for those which are obviously fake, but which I like. I think I can probably recognise the fakes, although some knock offs are pretty good. Example: I have two Rapunzel lanterns. One is genuine (I bought it at the Disney store, and it’s still on its card); the other came from an Amazon lot, and I am pretty sure it is fake, but not for the reasons you might think. Comparing them, I can see tiny differences, but the fake is surprisingly good. Like I said, I will trade for a fake if I really like the pin. I just resent trading a genuine pin for a fake due to the difference in what I paid for the real pin vs. the cost of the cheaper ones from Amazon. The real pins will have more value in the long run, and in some cases, can become collector’s items. The fake ones will never be worth more.
My adult kids say that I am overthinking this. Do you think most of the pins traded are fake? If you do pin trading, do you take the Amazon knock offs or the genuine Disney pins to trade, or both?
I won’t judge, but others here might. Feel free to PM me your answer. Thanks!

I love pin trading.
I buy the cheapest pins I can get from eBay from sellers who do their best to have genuine pins. I trade for what I like and I don't worry whether or not pins are real or fake. I buy a lot of pins while I'm there too. They are really expensive. I will never trade those. I have a pinboard and keep them up.
I heard that at the end of the day, Disney will go in and do their best to destroy all the pins on their boards that are fakes. I don't know how true this is. It was on some facebook group I think.
I think a lot of the pins there are fake at the parks but it's fun for me so I just stopped caring. I mean hell, I spend so much money on the trips, what's an extra $30 or whatever. I think that's just where I'm at with it. But I don't judge people for buying scrappers. Especially if you're going with kids and they trade for the most random pins.
I'm going to tell you what makes me mad is the people who buy a ton of stuff at the parks and then resell it on eBay. For example, I have a dated pin from every event we've gone to (food and wine, flower and garden, christmas party, etc.). This time EPCOT was all sold out of every single 2023 flower and garden figment pin. None of the other event pins were dated. This was April! The event had barely started. But there were 20+ of those pins on eBay.
I haven't bought one yet but I'll probably break down and spend more than I should because I like having them. But I'm just so mad that Disney allows that.

My kids used some of their own money to buy pins at DW and did not care if the Elsa pin on the board was authentic. They wanted to trade their Wookie! We have a couple boards at home to display them and they keep their duplicates on a lanyard for when we visit the park. They don’t care about the “value”, because the value to them (even 7 years later) is the best character. I totally understand not wanting the fakes when you want the monetary value though. I’m with blemon on the resellers though. I hope they one day want a Tickle Me Elmo doll and can’t find it. We collect Funko Pops and they used to have super limited releases for Comic Con. We’d wait in line for our favorite. Watching people buy 5 of each new one to turn around and sell for profit was gross.

Watching people buy 5 of each new one to turn around and sell for profit was gross. This exactly. I don't mind someone picking up one for a friend but if people are actually going to an event a week after it starts and can't get merch, that's a problem. I'm not spending $30 on a pin. They don’t care about the “value”, because the value to them (even 7 years later) is the best character. This too! I've been sort of collecting the mickey ear shaped cast member uniforms. If I get duplicates I keep the one that I think might be real, but I'm not even collecting them all, just the ones I like. I really want to go to Disney again. When I was there last, I was ready to leave and I was like, I'm not going back until we go to Paris in 2025. Enough is enough. Then lately I've been like, Ooooh, Jollywood looks really fun. I need to go. But we are buying a house, if all goes well with the underwriting, and will have no money at all for like a year. We'll be lucky if we go camping. My plan is to go to the Adventureland day thing at Disneyland for my 50th. That looks like so much fun.

I used to be an Escrow Officer and knowing even a small fraction of the crap that people go through and are raked over the coals for... ugh. It helped me when we bought ours, but there were still tons of hiccups and calling out the BS. It's a shame. I hope it goes smoothly and you close as soon as you want! Then lately I've been like, Ooooh, Jollywood looks really fun. I need to go. I hear ya. We moved our Disneyland (Sept 2024) to DW (Jan 2024) and I just want to skip the Halloween and Christmas reveals and jump to Fine Arts.

*steps back into the thread after a very long time* M'ladies, I just bought the papers from a Spanish Christmas line for our return to DLP for the next festive season. It's got candy colours, rollercoasters and a map very much inspired by Disney parks. I'm in heaven! And I cannot wait to be freezing my buttocks off as we wait in line in the cold to do ALL the magical Christmassy things. The only place in the world I'm always willing to brave the bitter winter cold for. Pin traders: check your Shopdisney website. Ours in Europe usually sell last season's pins for as low as 2€ each when they have a sale. If you want official products to trade, that can be a great idea. ETA: Fingers crossed for your hopefully soon-to-be house, blemon! How exciting.

So Tokyo Disneyland is opening up a huge new area in 2024. Rapunzels tower, captain hooks boat and frozen themed. And we had such a great time we now have plans to go back… I didn’t get to see Mount Fuji and the new Harry Potter world, I have to go back to japan 😇 But after that I’ve been told I have to wait until 2033 to go back again 😭 might work on that as the new donkey kong ride is opening soon at USJ as well….

It's a real fixer upper and we know that for sure. We were really worried about the appraisal but it came back ok. The underwriter has pulled out the most ridiculous issues for us to deal with before we can close. I mean the place is falling apart but, sure, we'll pull up the carpet. Fingers crossed this is the last hurdle. Fine Arts. I've never done this one and I really want to! Can't wait to hear all about your trip. It is less than a year away. Gorgeous!

Thank you for your comments, blemon and dawnnikol . Our entire family loves to do pin trading. I buy pins that I like. If I really like one that is a fake/scrapper or whatever they are called, I will still trade for it if I really like it, but if I am doing a trade, I think it’s only fair to trade one of equal value for it. I can’t see trading a $9 to $15 pin for one that cost the other person $1.50 at most in an Amazon lot. I think my biggest gripe with the fake pins, though, is that so many of them aren’t ones that I would want to receive in a trade, and you see a lot of those on the pin trading boards at the parks, especially by the end of the day. If whoever makes the fakes is going to the trouble to make fake pins, why don’t they copy more of the cuter Disney pins? blemon, I hope all goes well for buying your new home!

That appears to be the SAME WEBSITE linked from the Facebook ad that I fell for last summer prior to our trip to WDW. That is NOT a bonafide Loungefly seller. The ad that scammed me last year claimed they shipped from within the US, and that orders arrive in just a few days. The shipping info that I got soon after ordering showed that it was supposedly coming from China. They used a type of shipping that cannot be tracked once it arrives in the US, and is often used for smuggling. I never got what I ordered, and I know the packages were never delivered. (We have cameras.) Thankfully, I had used a credit card, and right after I placed my order, I recognized the discrepancies between the Facebook ad website and the real Loungefly web site, so I took screen shots of everything. I tried contacting the seller more than once, took screenshots of that, too, and screenshots warning about China Post and scams. Thankfully, I had used a credit card, not my bank card. I reported the scam, supplied my screenshots, and I got my money refunded relatively fast, but I had to wait long enough to allow time for the bags to be delivered, in case it wasn’t a scam. Anytime you see an ad claiming to be discounted Loungefly bags, especially steep discounts, it is almost certainly a scam. You can always check actual, real prices by going to the official Loungefly or Box Lunch websites. I love Loungefly bags. If you make purchases at Box Lunch, you can get coupons that can be stacked and used to get a Loungefly bag at a discount. Sometimes Amazon listings of Loungefly bags get discounted, so I browse and watch there. I have also started telling family members who ask what to get me for birthday, Mother’s Day, or Christmas, that I’d love an Amazon gift card, and when I have enough, then I can use my gift cards to buy a Loungefly bag from my wish list. I watch for Loungefly and Box Lunch sales on their bonafide websites, but I will never buy anything from Facebook ads again. I have read that most of the Facebook ads are a scam. I reported the fake Loungefly bag sale to Amazon, and it disappeared for awhile, but it’s obviously back again.

That is the only Facebook ad that ever tempted me, too, because the prices looked so good. A family member got suckered for a normally expensive doll ad that turned out to be fake, too.
If you report the ad as a scam, Facebook will take it down, but the creeps are evidently being allowed back on.
If an ad seems to good to be true, but you want it so bad you’re willing to take the risk, never use your bank’s debit card. Use a regular credit card. That way, if it is a scam, your funds at your bank aren’t tied up if you have to ask for a refund, just a portion of your credit line.

It’s too late to take advantage of now, but last night I was looking at Disney shirts on the Disney Store site for our upcoming Disneyland trip, and I decided to also see what Amazon had. I was surprised to find that they had included some Disney themed shirts for Prime Day Deals, so I snagged a few just barely before the deals expired. I got the last shirt bought just barely in time. Anyway, it’s something that you might want to consider checking for future Disney trips, if you’re a Prime member.
One shirt we were thinking of buying from the Disney Store was a few dollars less on Amazon, and it wasn’t even on sale. They also had a wider variety of Disney shirts than the Disney Store offers.

I'm jumping back into this thread because we booked our flight for Disneyland in early January! It will be almost 4 years (we went 2 weeks before it shut down) since we've been (we were going every year, sometimes twice a year pre-pandemic). As for pins, I'm like the 7 year olds, I buy the characters I like and don't care about the value. But now that you have me thinking about it, I should look and see how much my pins are worth currently.

Although I still hope to do a traditional album of our WDW trip last fall, I needed to get the memories recorded. I did a photobook using Photoshop Elements, and it is exactly 100 pages. I just barely finished it, and it was just Disney pages. I will have to do our Harry Potter pictures (same trip) done separately in a much smaller book.
