I am dying looking at the names of the Characters in French. Dingo Buzz L’eclair Bob (instead of Mike!) PanPan Tic et Tac Zip Dark Vador So funny the ones that kept their names and the ones they changed. Like Ant Man, seems like that would be an easy one to translate, funny they kept it English. I will never be able to look at Chip and Dale the same, now I want to look up ALL the Disney characters to see who else was changed. So cute! A bit of a mindfuck for the OG/English-speaking Disney fans but yes, cuteness galore. Especially when you figure out why they renamed some characters that were translated like Panpan instead of Thumper because he's a little naughty and keeps getting reminded of what his father told him... In French, getting a little tap on your tush as a kid is called "panpan cucul" (I guess 'smackmack buttbutt' if you really must try to translate it to English). I watched Peter Pan in French last year and I'd forgotten that they translated Michael to Michel. I belly-giggled like a toddler when I heard it. Thank you for the info about Thumper, so cute! Eeyore is another super weird one, I can’t recall what his name is in French, but his name in English isn’t a word either, so I was kind of surprised they changed it. Is Rabbit “Lapin”? I seriously must find a list.

Omg, I just googled, dinner can wait, this is much more important. Captain Hook is Captain Crochet!!! Makes sense, but so not menacing!!
Cogsworth is Big Ben! Ha!

Eeyore is another super weird one, I can’t recall what his name is in French, but his name in English isn’t a word either, so I was kind of surprised they changed it. Is Rabbit “Lapin”? Yes, Rabbit is Lapin! Well, actually, Coco Lapin. Eeyore, indeed, has a very different name in French: Bourriquet. It literally means 'small donkey' although it isn't a commonly used noun to designate a small donkey these days (it's present in French literary classics, however). Winnie the Pooh is Winnie l'Ourson, 'ourson' meaning literally 'small bear' so you get the Bourriquet reference now. Since they're originally all toys, they're considerally small versions of their real-life counterparts. In English, Piglet (Porcinet or literally 'little pork') is a good example of this very trend. John Christopher is Jean-Christophe. The Cheshire cat is such a tongue-twister for young French kids: le chat du Cheshire. Did you know French people used to (and quite a few still do) call Mickey Mouse "Mick-eh Mousse" (like chocolate mousse)? Disney France has worked hard to change this to a more Franglish compromise, Mick-eh Maws. It's working. They're not going to change Mick-eh though. You can hear the mother go "Salut, Mickey!" here. If you ever come to DLP, you'll hear all the French kiddos scream "MICK-EEEEEH!" as soon as he appears in the parade (and probably try hard not to belly-giggle like I did when I heard 'Michel' in Peter Pan).

Cogsworth is Big Ben! Ha! One of the finer translations! Oh, and Flounder in the Little Mermaid is 'Polochon' which is a kind of thick, round bed pillow, much like Flounder's body shape.

I’m going to Disneyland in May, too! Two day park hoppers. Tickets & reservations went pretty swift and smoothly!
I can’t wait to start seeing some trip reports from the first visitors after reopening. I’m really curious how the crowds will look at 25% capacity. Eeeee!

I’m really curious how the crowds will look at 25% capacity. You're going to have a blast! Can't wait for your to report back (ha, you *have* to now)... I love going to my Disneyland in mid-January because it's empty af. 5 to tops 10 minutes waiting for rides, nobody to stand in your way for the parade, no lines for lunch. Heaven!

We’re going to universal studios next month so I’m excited to scrap it again! We have a work trip in Orlando amd Disney was out of the equation just because it’s really a stand alone trip. Universal is so easy to just drop in. I may have bought myself a hp Vera Bradley bag that has a wand holder because my son wanted me to have it. Lol

Lol When we lived in the south and close enough for yearly WDW trips, I’d get a new VB hipster each time. Such a perfect bag for theme parks. But in CA nobody wears anything VB at alllll and I sorta feel like a goober with it.

Another request for a trip report from all of you that have trips planned in the near future. DD and I are debating a Disneyland trip after I’m fully vaccinated. She already is. I’d like to know how much of the park will be open and up and running. We went in February 2020 and it feels like a lifetime ago. I need some Disney magic!

Last I heard it will be 25% capacity, so that will be different. Still waiting to find out if any restaurants will be open for sit-down dining. We have a reservation for Ralph Brennan’s in Downtown Disney after the park closes, but I’d love it if Blue Bayou is open for lunch.

Disney at 25% capacity sounds like a dream. IF there is a good amount of things open. A few years back DDs and I went the week after Labor Day and the crowd level was so low. It was amazing. Every ride was walk on or less than 5 minutes. We love Tortilla Jo’s at Downtown Disney. We’ve never tried Ralph Brennan’s. Have you been there before?

Elsabelle, yes we’ve eaten at Ralph Brennan’s and really like the food. Shrimp and grits, mmm! It’s a fun spot, especially if you can sit outside. The park is showing a few closed rides, but I assume the rest is open. They’ll probably have the rides running at low capacity and staff, so I still expect there will be lines. Hopefully not too long.

The Disneyland subreddit has some helpful posts on what will be operating. I’ll be there the 11th too! From the top of my head - Jungle Cruise and Matterhorn are under refurbishment. Submarines are a no. No live performances, parades, fireworks. The theatre in Main Street is closed, no castle walk through, no moments with Abe. CA rules state attractions can’t last longer than 15 minutes, so all of the self-paced things are out. Haunted Mansion has some new things added! I think they are skipping the stretching room though, so you enter directing to the Doombuggies. From that subreddit it seems 25% is the max! They think actual numbers will be 15-20% capacity. I’ll be watching the wait times via the app like a hawk as soon as it opens!

The vaccination centre at the Newport Bay Club in Disneyland Paris (somebody make the firemen working there wear Minnie ears!):

That is a fun video, how swank the little tent rooms are. Here you just get your shot in full view of everyone, heck my husband just stuck his arm out the car window to get his! Random question, you all drive on the right side of the road? I thought you guys were left side drivers. Is that just a UK thing? That hotel is so lovely, funny to see Portland as the name of one of the rooms. That is the city I live in, I know it is not named after my Portland, but it kind of startled me. When my sibling went to Euro Disney (that is what it was called then) they stayed in the “American”hotel that was very cowboy themed, is that one still around?

Here you just get your shot in full view of everyone, heck my husband just stuck his arm out the car window to get his! No drive-through vaccinations in France as you have to sit down with a doctor who'll verbally confirm your answers to the essential questions before approving you for vaccination. It's old skool. Super quick but you still need to face that medical authority first. My mass vaccination centre has a very specific approach to those isolation tent booths, too: the vaccinee has the sit down on a high Tolix bar stool and the fireman vaccinating sits down on a regular chair. I'm short so I found myself "hiking" up that bar stool oh-so gracefully as he was sitting and watching me swing my booty up there, thinking to myself: "Oh Zeus, I have not missed this silly bar stool routine since the pandemic started! I can't believe this is what awaits me again when I'm fully vaxxed. I'd forgotten. Merde." Random question, you all drive on the right side of the road? I thought you guys were left side drivers. Is that just a UK thing? Oh, Skellinton , the bulk of the (small number, granted) of countries driving left in the world are former British colonies! And the right-side road dominance was actually propulsed by the French because Napoleon, a left-handed man, would ride into combat on the right as a military scare tactic to display superiority and confidence by willingly foregoing his dominant side. So, non non non, we definitely don't drive on the left, never have, likely never will. I don't recommend asking regular French people why they don't drive on the left. "Madame, ce n'est pas l'Angleterre ici !" And so, the good ol' France-Britain rivalry lives on in yet another mundane everyday thing... The only countries in Europe driving on the left are the UK (obviously), the Republic of Ireland (it would such a mindfuck to switch sides on the road when crossing the border into Northern Ireland), Malta (formerly part of the British Empire) and Cyprus (former Crown colony). All four are islands. ETA: Found this article on how France is to blame for right-side driving. When my sibling went to Euro Disney (that is what it was called then) they stayed in the “American”hotel that was very cowboy themed, is that one still around? Yes, that would be Hôtel Cheyenne! People here love old western movies. This hotel is not going anywhere! It's super popular.

We are currently in Orlando with a universal trip planned later this week.
We went to Disney springs Friday for a day of shopping. I was quite impressed with staff walking outside to make sure everyone stayed masked unless you’re eating. My hubby hates it but who cares. Lol. Floridians are taking it seriously and keeping us tourists in line. Our hotel requires a mask indoors and my hubby said “but the cdc just said” and the security guy goes “doesn’t matter. You’re on private property”. I loved it. You want full freedom? Tough shit if you’re on someone else’s property. Anyways we are so excited to ride hagrids ride and get a new wand for my son!!

Have so much fun, julie5! I hope your son has a blast on Hagrid's ride and finds just the perfect wand. Full freedom is an illusion anyway. One's freedom ends where it impedes another's. Law of living in society!

nyways we are so excited to ride hagrids ride and get a new wand for my son!! Hagrid's was my very favorite ride at Universal! Enjoy!! If you have the old wand and it's just out of batteries, they will exchange it for free. They did that for us easy peasy for 4 wands.

I’ll take it with us and ask.

I didn't follow her IG stories closely before the trip so she may be headed to WWHP later this week as well. It's like some secret theme park convention for scrapbookers over there right now...

Just wanted to update that we could not get sons broken wand fixed/replaced as they no longer sell them. It’s professor slughorns. So I’ll super glue it at home for him. He did the ollivanders experience and we bought the wand that chose him. He LOVED it!! We also got a free wand for buying a gift card that we then used on purchases so my other Potter head gets a wand too. So excited to see her face when we get home!!

I didn't think I'd ever participate in a Disney thread, but my husband, daughter, and husband's cousin are going to Disneyworld in December. The choices of products are over whelming, yet a lot of it looks the same. It's very kid-centric, and it will be all adults. My idea is a 12x12 album using mostly divided page protectors and a few regular 12x12 pages with special photos. I know they are doing four parks. The last two days they are heading south to some beach. Between the cousin who has a Disney Vacation Club membership (I think that's the right term), been multiple times, and my Autistic daughter who can get very OCD about her favorite things, I am happily not involved in the vacation plans. I'm thinking some small metal dies/border dies that are Disney-esque for journal cards. I've found a few I think will work. Keep it black, white, red, and yellow. I'd like to keep it bright and simple. It looks like Echo Park has a white based Disney line? I thought of using polka dot paper in the same color scheme, possibly some star paper too. I don't know. There's such a variety of things at all the parks. I'm not sure how to make it look cohesive. I'm not good at looking at other lines and thinking immediately that is SO Disney, unless it is obviously Disney. Of course in my search down the rabbit hole, I discovered Shimelle's Starshine line would work really well, but I'm not interested in hunting it all down in random places.
I do know my daughter has already purchased two Lilo and Stitch outfits, so there's that! Oh and STAR WARS, she's OBSESSED! Luckily I have some Comic Con stuff that will work. Then, there will be Christmas decorations! I just want to cut, paste, and finish an album.
It's probably best to wait for photos, but I thought I could get a few basic things...maybe?

It's probably best to wait for photos, but I thought I could get a few basic things...maybe? Welcome to the Dark Side. ^.^ I HATE HATE HATE that all the Disney lines are red, black, white, and yellow. It does not coordinate a majority of the colors and themes found around Disney. Hell, look at the castle! I still snag some of the more basic "Disney" scrap stuff lines come out with, simply because I like a good red, but most of it gets skipped. Same with their embellishments. I prefer to put my own stuff together. I start with my stash and then add on when I see something. I mean, there is SO much at DW. Even if you just quickly Google the 4 parks you can see that it's not just one colorway. I hope you told the planners to at least buy the Memory Maker?
