I loved vex Sua and her prize for Devens. It’s so cool that she’s a superfan.
I’m thinking that’s a typo. It’s Sia.

Why oh why, did Devon’s not build up the sticks around his fire. He could have done it! I was so sad!
Before I talk about the winner I have to say watching Devens find the real idol, and hide the fake idols AND watch them be found was hysterical. He was cracking me up with his laughter and covering his mouth. He had the best time out there. He will be playing again, AND I HOPE ITS SOON! By far he was this seasons shining star!
Chris is who I wanted to win from EOE. I never liked how he went out at tribal, and I think he played in both places with heart. I get the people being mad that he did play the game at EOE, but I think he played the game that Survivor put in place. If he was a jerk at EOE he wouldn’t have received votes. He played a social game there and the time he spent with some of the now jury worked in his favor. Just like how Gavin and Julie being with the players at camp worked in their favor. It’s about relationships. He also had games played over on EOE, and he was competitive with that as well. It may not have been enough to win, but he was always putting in the effort.
Now on the actual island......I think in the very limited days he had left he made more moves than Gavin or Julie ever did. I see Gavin has a lot of people who liked his play (I agree he was a super nice guy) but to me he didn’t play nearly as well as Chris did in that power punch of time. Chris has half of an idol, he had to pick the smart bet, Chris talked Lauren into using her idol on him when she held on to it for SO LONG. Had she kept her idol she would have been safe and not went home that next tribal. then winning the necklace on the most important challenge of all.....that was huge. Gavin and Julie both had individual wins so I do t think either of them outshone the other. I think giving his necklace to Julie was a MAJOR risk. He had his ticket to the finale and he offered that up. Yes, anyone facing Devens would have lost, but he could have lost his chance to even face Devens! Lastly, I like how he answered questions at tribal. I thought he was very direct (I DIDNT like how he tried to ambush Gavin....that was not a shining moment) but other than that I think he handled it really well. Julie and Gavin in my opinion didn’t. Julie flat out lied and made her drama seem planned instead of combustion. Everyone knew she wasn’t being honest. Gavin saying he never looked for an idol because he was always in the right side of the numbers.....that isn’t playing for me. I like when a player is confident, but still goes for reassurance. I think he and Victoria had a strong alliance and she drove that train.
Lastly, on the Gavin and Victoria discussion......for them being so close I find it telling that she voted for Chris. Anyone else surprised?

Yeah, my post was filled with typos. I had to go back and correct them all. It happens when I’m excited and posting VERY late. I was hoping no one would quote me before I had a chance to fix them all. I absolutely see what you’re saying Leslie about Chris and his gameplay. He did come in with a huge target on his back and he made some very bold moves that earned him his place. For me, wanting Gavin to win wasn’t just about him being a nice guy. It was appreciating his quieter careful game play that kep him in the game during what was a clearly volatile and unpredictable season. I think everyone loves flashy players and big moves and sometimes es the quieter players get lost. There IS something to their game play. Also, while I do feel that EoE players have an unfair advantage with the jury. Yes, he could have been a jerk on EoE and no one would have voted for him, but honestly I think they ALL bonded out there, even the jerks. I’m just not a fan of it. And yes, while Chris probably a wonderful guy, there was some thing that bugged me a little about him. So yeah, that part was personal...lol. But, he really did do a good job and overall I can’t be mad at his win. I love that Gavin and Devins still get to take home $100,000 too. Not a million, but not bad for a month’s work, especially for a YMCA director like Gavin. Can you spoil it? I can’t watch until tomorrow. Rob and Sandra are coming back but as mentors not players they each will be coaching a team. Gross. I like Rob when he played but it’s time for him to move on and I hate Sandra. What a dumb idea.

Bummed that devens didn’t win but glad it was Chris. Not a fan of Gavin and Julia. Julia really didn’t do much except tag on Rons coattails and win two immunity challengess. I didn’t like any of their reasons as to why they should win.
I understand how the jury was thinking Chris only played 12 days on the island but when we came back he did make some big moves. How he got Lauren to give him his idol is crazy!
Also, giving his idol to Julia was so smart! He knew he would have the best change against all 3 to win the fire and of course he couldn’t go against devens, the favorite.
I am glad devens got the money. He’s smart, played well and while he did lie it didn’t seem to have any malice, it was just for the game if that makes any sense.
Next seasons look interesting!

Sia, who is a Survivor super fan and has given prizes to her favorite players before (although I think this is the largest one so far) gave Devens $100,000. Jeff told him at the reunion.

I was wanting Gavin to win, but oh well. I don't know why but Devans drove me up the wall. I can't put my finger on it. I actually like him a little more on the reunion part of the show. I think I was just not to invested this year.. I didn't have anyone (except Joe) that I was really attached to.
I was kinda excited to see Rob and Sandra for the next season, but was wondering what they are paying them because neither of them would be doing that out of the kindness of their hearts. LOL... I think I like the idea because we need something different.

We're considering not watching next season. We didn't watch TAR when Rob and Amber were on it, until they were eliminated. That's obviously not going to happen here...
It's bad enough seeing him and Sandra, who are both so annoying, but seeing and hearing people gush over them will be too much. I hate when people gush about him when he's not even there.

While I agree that Devins played a good game, I just didn't like him. I was glad when he couldn't make fire. He was just a tad too egotistical for me. I didn't like the fact that he laughed at others misfortune. Also, in Survivor, there is deception and there is outright lying. Devins outright lied. I realize that everyone is in it for themselves, but, to me, Devins was more so - or at least it was more visible.
The thing that bothers me about the reunion show is that there are so many advertisements! It was getting to me.
I am glad Chris won. He got back into the game and make some big moves and proved himself. I am sure Lauren is kicking herself about playing her idol for him, but, in reality, if she were in the final 3 with Devins, she wouldn't have won anyway.
I am not looking forward to Boston Rob and Sandra again. Why can't they just go riding into the sunset?

I agree with jackie’s comment but about Rick not Chris (“there was something smarmy and a little too showboaty“). Devins played a horrible social game. He didn’t invent the fake idol. But he acted so obnoxiously gleeful about it. He was playing to the camera not for the love of the game. His dislike of Chris was obvious. He expected it as his just due for Chris to roll over and not betray him because Rick “felt guilty” about betraying Chris. Nope! Chris wasn’t falling for it. Ricke’s final vote was resentment for being played in just the same style as his own. Sour grapes.
Rob and Sandra again? Ugh. How about we have a season with just the original Borneo rules. Now THAT would be new all over again LOL.

He called out Ron for planting a fake idol and wanting to humiliate him at TC, yet didn't hesitate to do the same thing to Julie & Lauren? He also called out Aurora for going through his bag and didn't hesitate to go through Chris's bag when he returned to camp? I think Gavin 100% lost when he said he didn't look for idols because he didn't need them. Dalton Ross has said many, many times that jury members are always more impressed by seeing HII used than by who is wearing the immunity necklace at TC. Looking for idols is as much about blocking those you are targeting from having any protection as it is about personal protection.

I’m not good with all that jazzy stuff! I only quote whole quotes, but that would have been monster size!!! So I’m hoping his worked! I thought Ron’s move was shitty, but not Devens. I think they were completely different. Ron gave Devens that idol and a big pile of bullshit. Deven made those fake idols, and hide them to buy himself more time and possibly take some attention off of him having an idol. (Blushing here) I must have made my son fast forward through the bag part. I didn’t realize he went through Chris’s bag. Not cool. At all!!!!! I agree that Gavin made a big mistake by saying he never looked for idols because of his numbers. That was a big mistake! I was surprised with who voted for who.

When someone mentioned that next season looked bad I thought “oh they’re just being negative!”. Lol...sorry whomever that was. You’re right it does look terrible. I do NOT need to see Rob’s and Sandra’s faces again, especially Rob. And let’s feed their massive egos even more by making these giant statues of their heads and making these guys mentors. Exactly. I can't stand either one of those tools - my family will be thrilled if I give next a pass as they're not fans, but this season they adored Rick and were pulling for him all the way. I was SOOO bummed out last night - we were about 25 mins behind so we sped thru the entire session where they grill the finalists. Chris was just too smug! We cheered when Rick got the special award and I immediately looked him up on Twitter. This guy will be going to a bigger market for sure (very funny video he's posted for big markets to view too!)

Loved watching this season, although I’m disappointed that I didn’t always watch the episodes in a timely manner and that I didn’t come and discuss as much with my pea friends. I missed that. I’ll be better next season! Okay, so the EoE was kind of a neat idea. I get it, there were elements of it I kind of enjoyed, but overall I hope they don’t do it again. I’ve already said before that I really missed the Ponderosa footage (and yes, I think they’ll still show some footage from the EoE folks going there as well as the last two vote-offs). I also felt that the players there sort of detracted from the main part of the show and the cast still left in the game. Lastly, I think it provided an unfair advantage to the person returning to the game who’s been bonding with all of the people voted off who harbor resentment toward those left in the game and who feel that their fellow EoE is an underdog and one of them. So, once again Devens was super entertaining. Watching him find his own real idol and then hide those fake idols and listen and watch people finding them...you just can’t help but love it. Devens was the clear winner this season. He played an absolutely amazing game. Once Devens was voted out I really, really wanted Gavin to win. Gavin wasn’t flashy. He played a quiet game but a strategic game. I thought he deserved the win. But I thought he made a few mistakes at final TC. He probably wasn’t going to win anyway, but still. One mistake imo was that in trying to discredit Chris’ game because he was in EoE and not playing Survivor during that time, he sort of discredited most of the jury. Also, when asked about not looking for an HII he said he didn’t need to because he was always on the side of the numbers. That seemed a little lazy. You NEVER know when you’ll be in trouble so you should always be concerned about having an idol. Plus, if nothing else, you want to keep it out of your enemies’ hands. But, I still liked his gameplay and what he had to say better at TC. Chris made some decent moves in the short time he was back in the game. But there was something smarmy and a little too showboaty and sales guy for me. I thought it was kind of obnoxious when he started questioning Gavin at final. I loved that Kelly spoke up and shut that down. And honestly, Julie at the end really kicked it into gear. She lost me at her supposed use of emotional meltdowns as a tool in the game. No, those were just meltdowns Julie. Nevertheless, I was hoping she’d at least get a vote or two. The reunions go way too fast but I’m glad that at least they still have them. Other shows, like Amazing Race never had them and others, like Top Chef stopped them (boo Andy Cohen and Watch What Happens). I loved Sia and her prize for Devens. It’s so cool that she’s a superfan and puts her money where her mouth is. Devins was so clearly surprised and touched. I agree with everything you wrote here Jackie and in your post following this one. I watched last night and felt very sad after the show ended. I really wanted Devins to win and if he couldn't then Lauren or Gavin. When Lauren was out I focused on Devins and Gavin and when Devins was out I set my hope to Gavin. I was so sad when Chris won-happy for him of course, but sad for the way Survivor turned out this time and for Gavin. I didn't like the theme of this season preferring the old style of "when you're out, you're out" but as the weeks passed and the alliances kept moving here and there I must admit it made for exciting game play. I also must admit that over this past week I wondered if it was Survivor's way of giving Joe a way to finally get a win? I believe down to my core that Survivor is not scripted but c'mon what better way for Joe to get some help winning the game than to park him over on another island with basically nothing to do with a bunch of other ousted players for X number of days and then one of them gets to come back in on day 35 after winning a challenge against all of the ousted players? Sadly Joe didn't win that challenge but Chris did. The thing is Chris got voted out on day-what was it? It was so early in the game that I barely remember him. Theories aside-there are things I didn't like about this survivor season. 1. EOI. The ousted players on EOI while not living at Ponderosa and having it easy eating all they wanted and living in luxury, still in my opinion had it pretty easy. They must have been able to build a camp, have water, have rice and once they had Joe had someone catching fish for them, right? They were able to bond (which I'm sure they did like crazy) telling their stories to each other. They had one thing the players didn't have at Ponderosa-they had the hope of possibly getting back into the game. Hope is huge. But the biggest thing they didn't have during the entire time they were at EOI was they had a ton less stress than those living the game-because every 3 days (or however many it was) they didn't have to go to tribal and possibly get voted out. Think about it-that stress has to be constant when you are in the game. Some describe it as 24/7. I'd say that's huge too. I'm starting to believe that they grew so tight that I'm thinking it didn't matter who won the EOI challenge-that huge jury who'd been together so long on EOI was going to vote for whoever "their" player was that got back in. Which they did. Which makes me so upset about this season. I honestly don't think Chris deserved to win this time. I don't think he played the game. True, he played the game Survivor set up the rules for this season, and for that kudos to him. But he didn't sit through tribal after tribal like Gavin did fighting his way through to outlast, outplay and out whatever it is (sorry folks, drawing a blank here on the last out) to win the game. I thought Gavin played a great, quiet game. He voted out Ron with his double vote along with Lauren. Ron was a huge, powerful player. Getting Ron out changed the game. Gavin did a lot of quiet moves like that, keeping under the radar because I think that was his style. Yes, Chris did some huge moves in his 4 days back in the game after getting out, but in my mine it wasn't enough to make up for being on EOI for all of those days-in Survivor's season rules it was-in my mind it isn't. Next season-OMG, what on earth are the Survivor producers thinking? I will be honest. I have watched every single season and every single episode since Survivor started. Most twice. I refuse to watch next season. I cannot stand the Boston Rob or Sandra Diaz! Besides their egotistical natures after watching the reruns of Survivor on Hulu I realized what a sexist pig Boston Rob is-he is disgusting and I refuse to watch young female players fawning over him again in attempts to win. Don't these producers realize we are sick of these two people and wish to never, ever see their faces on our TV screens again? If they are looking for a way to end Survivor forever they have found it. I am so utterly disappointed this morning.

I agree. I don't think they were quite the same. Rick was trying to throw them off track while he searched for the real idol. Ron just wanted to embarrass Devens. And tbh, I’m not sure Devens was as outraged as he pretended to be. I think he was working the jury for votes. Same with the bag searching thing (when Aurora searched his bag). But are you sure Devens searched Chris’ bag? I didn’t see that either, but I also could have missed it. I thought Devens just assumed Chris got that special immunity idol because that was what Devens got too when he won a spot back into the game from EoE. And then when he said something to Chris about it, Chris admitted he did and gave the one part to Devens.
Debbie, you’re not going to watch next season?? You must! I mean I hate this twist too, but it could be good despite it. Give it a chance! I hope they get some really savvy players that give these two has beens the what for...lol.

Jackie, I really wasn't going to watch next season but since you asked I will. I will give it a chance. I wish Rob and Sandra were playing because then the teams could just vote them out and we'd be done with them. Having them be around to "coach" the team the entire season may be too much to take. And then being there after the challenges to either cheer or advise their teams with their wealth of knowledge on and on-all through 39 days? I don't honestly know if I can bear it. I will give it a try. I love Survivor deeply. I am heartbroken they are doing this and think it is a huge mistake. Hopefully they will learn from it and will return to what makes Survivor great. The game and the people. I believe there is nothing wrong the initial classic game of Survivor. It has everything that makes it great because it is different every time based on what people you choose. They don't need to keep coming up with totally different bizarre ways to play Survivor-like Edge of Extinction or Rob and Sandra coming back as coaches. I don't think that is what true, longtime Survivor fans want. I know I don't. My favorite seasons are a completely new cast and a classic Survivor game with no redemption island (when you're out, you're out). It's the people that make it great. So how about giving the people that try out to play a chance instead of famous people, or casting beautiful people, or wild new ways to play the game. Let's get back to the roots of Survivor.

Possible spoiler for season 40 ahead Those of you who don't like Boston Rob and Sandra, you might want to skip season 40. Rumor is that they are both on it, along with other winners. The entire cast will be former winners.

Cannot stand rob or Sandra
Does anyone know if players got more money this season? Going to edge of extinction was a lot harder than going to cushy ponderosa, seems like they deserve more money to me

Possible spoiler for season 40 ahead Those of you who don't like Boston Rob and Sandra, you might want to skip season 40. Rumor is that they are both on it, along with other winners. The entire cast will be former winners. It was announced on the live show that Rob and Sandra are on it. It has been discussed openly on this thread. I don’t think the other part of the spoiler is true based on what was aired promoting the live show.
