Since the beginning of the new Congressional term I've had this niggling wondering about AOC. Things don't seem to match up . . . and DH and I have been watching YouTube videos about a variety of topics. Earlier this week (shortly after her Chief of staff Saikat Charkrabarti was accused of campaign finance issues) we watched a video done by Mr. Reagan, now granted most of his research and info is definitely far right. But all of us in the US should be concerned, Democrats, Republicans, and Indepedents.
AOC owes taxes on a failed business, Brook Avenue Press. Don't get me wrong, lots of people have failed businesses and many owe back taxes. But what she was 2011-2016 doesn't match up with her rhetoric now. Yes, I know people change.
She was "nominated" by her brother through an audition process to run for congress. The Brains behind the scheme is the Justice Democrats, backed in part by Cenk Uygur. No wonder she didn't know that she would not be inaugurated or that she wouldn't be signing bills. No wonder she thinks that "she's the boss".
Do some research on Saikat Charkrabarti, Cenk Uygur, Zack Exley.
When AOC said there would be a list of democrats who would be primaried if they didn't toe the line had some truth in it! Scarily true when you hear their plan is to replace congress. The Justice Democrats endorsed 79 candidates for congress, 26 won their primaries, 7 won their general elections. Three were selected through the audition process to run for their seats: Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley both who do actually have prior governmental experience, and AOC.
This should be concerning to everyone.

Wait, we’re going to talk about AOC having a failed small business? OK, then let’s also talk about Trump’s bankruptcies and the number of claims that he stiffed his contractors for their work?

Has anyone actually taken the time to visit the Justice Democrat site?
From the site.
“We are recruiting diverse working class leaders to run as Justice Democrats for Congress for 2020.
Is the next Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the next Rashida Tlaib, the next Ilhan Omar, or the next Ayanna Pressley in your district?
Help us find them by nominating a candidate, or by nominating a district where you want to help find a great candidate.
We're focused on recruiting candidates to run in districts where the incumbent Democrat is demographically and ideologically out-of-touch with the voters of the district.
START NOMINATING NOW”
Maybe I’m old fashion, but traditionally Democrats in Congress outside a district don’t actively advocate primarying other Democrats in Congress and an outside third party does not run a nominating process for candidates in specific districts that they don’t live in.
What this amounts to is outsiders meddling in local elections to push their agenda. Sound familiar.

Once again, your disdain for liberals/democrats oozes from your sourcing and commentary.
Sad for you. Some people just cannot get off the Fox/Breitbart/Federalist propaganda trains.

The best answer to those who post information you feel is less then factual , is to post the facts showing otherwise.
Otherwise just saying it’s garbage means nothing. IMO.

That's what PACs do - they throw their money behind a candidate of their choosing. Are you suggesting because their name has "democrat" in it that they are part of the Democratic party?

Okay, change my mind, I'm listening . . . What has Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said or done that actually rings true and honest? What says that she is her own woman with her own plan? What has she done to better the life of her constituents?

First they ignore you.
Then they laugh at you.
Then they fight you.
Then you win.
AOC's enemies seem to be somewhere between the 'laughing at' and the 'fighting' stage.

What has she done to better the life of her constituents? It’s not the job of the Democrats or liberals to educate you. Try stepping outside of the Fox box, find factual writings about her. She’s always working to help the little guys. She has been brilliant when questioning people in committee meetings/hearings.

Why are people on the right so obsessed with her? I don’t get it. She is a house member. One vote of many.
I think the right is petrified of one female Hispanic who won’t take crap from anyone. Remember the term “owning the libs?” Well, now it’s “owning the liars”, I mean “owning the gop.”
Seriously, I get disgusted with cognitive dissonance. So she failed at business, yet the God of the GOP, Trump filled for bankruptcy too many times. Someday I am going to write a dissertation on the cult of Trump. People gave into lies to maintain their notion of superiority.
And this if from someone who believed in the old Republican Party: free trade, strong defense, rule of law, free press, NATO, morals, distrust of Russia, low deficits, family values. You get the point that party is dead. It was replaced by belief in lying, tariffs, let’s call it fake news, let’s insult others, let’s be mean to those seeking asylum, let’s lie about factory jobs returning to the US, Carrier, Harley Davidson anyone? The party of Trump thinks it’s ok to grab them by the p*s*y. It ok to support an alleged sex offender in Alabama. But yeah, let’s waste time talking about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

I suggest you go to their site to get answer to your questions. It’s interesting. AOC is actively working with this group and another one called the Sunrise Movement. She is also, her words, making a list of other Democrats in the House to primary if they don’t vote the way she and these two groups think they should. Instead of picking off other other Democrats in Congress their main goal should be to keep and expand the majority in the House, take back the majority in the Senate, and take back the White House . If that doesn’t happen, then the “goals” listed on Justice Democrats’ site will be nothing but empty words.

I'm lost.
What specifically should we be concerned about?
She was born in The Bronx, lived there until age 5 IIRC. The family moved 35 miles north and witnessed first hand the impact your zip code can have on life opportunties. After college, she choose to return to The Bronx. How is this a bad thing?
Both political parties audition and recruit people to run for office. How else did you think it happened?
The Tea Party challenged a few Republicans out of office. Remember Eric Cantor? He was House Majority Leader when he lost in the Republican primary.
Were you as concerned about that as the thought of Democrats doing the same thing?

I’m cool with that.

The absolute horror and "outrage" of the right is making AOC the darling of the Democratic Party. As you reach for things to be "concerned" about, don't forget, YOU are the one putting her name out there, YOU are instigating those on her side to come to her defense. If it weren't for YOU, she'd be just another congress person...
In 2007, Ocasio-Cortez won a prize at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in microbiology at 18. She served on Youth legislative sessions in High School. She interned at an immigration office in college. She has a cum laude degree in economics and international relations. She was an educational director and took a job bartending to help her mother keep the house after the death of her father.
I'm venturing a bet that she's accomplished more than most of us have/had at her age.
That tax bill y'all are so concerned about? A whopping $1,870. Do we really want to discuss legislators outstanding tax bills? A report by the IRS on tax compliance by government employees shows that collectively government employees owe 2.53 billion dollars in unpaid taxes- Ocasio-Cortez's bill is .000073% of that.
As for what she's done for her constituents? She motivated them, gave them something to believe in, and inspired them to get out and vote. Which is pretty much all that any young first time congress person CAN do until they've had some time on the job. Oh and regardless of whether you think it's a solid plan, she presented that Green New Deal in her first 33 days in office - show me a legislator under the age of 35 who presented an infrastructure plan within their first 2 months as a first time legislator - don't worry, I'll wait...

Let me get this straight.
Trump, Donald Trump, the guy with multiple failed businesses, some of which tried to scam people—-the guy who says and tweets inappropriate, inflammatory and disgusting things almost on the daily—the guy who, at a minimum, has hired a shit ton of corrupt people who are now spending time in prison or will be soon.——the guy who has lied more than any president. Ever—and sounds like a rambling walking word salad ?—-should I go on and on and on?
Without even scratching the surface, he is a proudly corrupt, dishonest and awful human being who has brought us to a Manchurian candidate-esque dystopian nightmare existence.
And I’m suppose to give a shit about AOC and some anemic little conspiracy? I’m gong to laugh at probably every sad little cry of corruption or conspiracy coming out of mouths of anyone who supports/supported Trump from now on.
:::shaking my head and mumbling to myself that I just can’t believe how absolutely blind with cognitive dissonance and gaslighting some people can be::::::

Funny, the latest Boogeyman for the GOP is an educated, young woman of color. The right has done an excellent job of whipping up false fury as a way to deflect from issues they won't address and to hide their hypocrisy.
It would be nice if y'all could go off script just once in awhile.

I know the left's nonstop talking point is that the right is "afraid" of AOC, they're horrified and outraged by her, and sprinkle that with the same racism bull.
WHY would the right be "afraid" of her? Because she gets media attention?
The republicans bash democrats. Standard. The democrats bash republicans. Standard. The republicans and democrats bash Bernie. Standard.
What's not standard?
Tossing out a GND that makes no sense to either democrats or republicans, with absolutely no explanations, leaving both parties scratching their heads.
Several presidential candidates quickly signed on to this GND without even reading or thinking it thru and will now have to explain how they'd work this deal. Some might think they were afraid not to sign on.
Threatening members of your own party to add them to a list to be primaried if they vote with republicans.
Those two things alone have absolutely nothing to do with republicans. She put that on the democrats.
Finish all of this off with Tom Perez' decision to not allow FOX to host any presidential debates. Really? Even some democrats disagree with the DNC's decision for this.
I don't see any republicans shaking in their boots.

I didn’t get past the part about all of Yorktown heights being this upper class place when AOC was growing up. York town heights WAS far from an entirely wealthy neighborhood. Just like any other town they had thier nicer parts & the less nice parts. There is not enough information given in that article to know if she grew up wealthy or not. The per capita income was Lower than $33,000 in 2000 according to city-data.com It might be an expensive hip neighborhood now but it wasn’t/hadn’t always been. And $33,000 isn’t that much and it’s even less by Westchester County standards. You’d need to know did she live with her father, all the time?, where was the house in Yorktown heights. And everyone likes to use the word Architect as if they all make bank but that also not the case. That article left out too much info and got enough info wrong that I can’t even read the rest as if it’s ‘news’
I’m not a fan girl for AOC but that article about her growing up has conflated enough facts to make it not believable.
If you want to be upset about someone lying or embellishing thier resume then don’t lie, omit or embellish to try to prove your point.
