The secret to finding stuff at thrift is to go often and go to lots of different neighbourhoods. Oh yes, I dream of finding Copics at thrift. Even though I have probably more Copics than any one person needs... that sweet, sweet premium marker goodness. I'd never say no to more. The closest thing I've gotten would be these darlings, last year: Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph set, circa 1980's or early 90's probably. The pamphlet is dated 1984. These are technical pens, the kind architects would use. 5.99$, +~6 hours of labour. Guessing the folks pricing stuff that day opened them, saw they were all gross and dried up, and figured nobody would buy them for much. These bad boys were put away wet and left to suffer, all but the orange one which was never used. They sat for a long, long time, as there's noticeable sun yellowing on one side of all of the pens. And so much dried ink, in every. single. part. The remaining six needed a full disassemble and repeated trips through the ultrasonic cleaner + lots of TLC with cotton buds and alcohol soaks before they could work again, but I managed to restore the whole set. The remaining ink is even still perfect, which I wasn't expecting. The little black rings are the keys for unbolting the nibs, in case anyone was wondering what on earth those are. I use the yellow (0.3mm) and brown (0.5mm) ones the most, the others are currently empty and clean. Smoothest pens I've ever used, just touch them to the paper and go. They make lines of extremely consistent thickness. One of these pens is ~40$ brand new, and Koh-I-Noor still produces these exact models! (if it ain't broke...?) Oh do those bring back memories. I used those in architecture school in the 90s! Thank goodness for computer drafting now!!! there’s no way in heck I’d pay $5.99 for that. Oh god the hours I spent cleaning those I know the torture that would follow. And sometimes all the cleaning was for naught as you still have to replace the nib This is why I switched to ceramics the minute I could And ditto thank god and programmers for CAD

Thrift stores are extremely hit or miss in my neighborhood. Craft supplies are more a unicorn. Thrift stores around me have junk for craft supplies. Plus both of them are overpriced. They even have dollar store stuff priced higher then a dollar sometimes Since I work full-time, Monday - Friday I don't make a lot of time to go to them any more.

My Goodwill is overpriced, too. The clothing is organized nicely at my Goodwill with the toys and housewares are a complete mess. I don't usually go in there because I don't like sorting through the garbage. Some stuff they try to sell should be thrown in the trash. Toys that are broken and don't work, empty boxes, etc.

Toys that are broken and don't work, empty boxes, etc. Same here except the thrift stores near me are Deseret Industries. They are clean but items are very worn! There's an outlet store that sells overstocked items including clothing that are BRAND NEW. I've bought so much Target clothing for $1.00-2.49 for my son. I am looking forward to yard sales this year. If anything to be amused at how long crafters hold onto their stuff (me included)! I typically see things from the early 2000's. I live in Utah and there's usually something crafty at every sale. One time I bought a pack of sewing needles because the graphics on the front were awesome! Think 1950's. My best deal last year was a midcentury modern chair (bottom needs fixed) for $5.00!

I Purchased this at one of the local Goodwill stores. It’s in the original box. I just opened it up and made a cut — perfect! The most I paid for it is $2.79! It was marked $3.99 and I know I received at least 30% off.

It's so cute! A good deal too. I would have gone bananas for a die cutting machine as a kid, and probably begged my parents to get me all the shapes under the sun. Sadly I had to make do with kid's scissors, which are difficult at best to get precision work out of.

Today's finds! A big lot of early 90's holographic 'laser' stickers, and two packs of gold foil, probably also of similar vintage. Retail price on the foil packs is 7.99/6.39, from a shop that closed in the early 2000's. The stickers are marked 2/1$ or 78¢ originally. Total cost to me was ~3$. The store also had a Cricut Companion that's been in the display area for at least two weeks now, nobody's buying. Probably because they're asking way too much; 129$!

Those holographic stickers sell for a good price on ebay, way more than the $3 you paid.

So reminds me of 5th grade, trading stickers, lol Oh yeah, vintage stickers can get expensive! I'm fortunate in that I still have my original childhood collection. These lovelies are going nowhere except into the sticker binder where they'll be in good company. I spent a great number of allowances in the stationary/card store, on Sandylion stickers back in the day. Vending machines too, the ones that would give you a sheet of stickers in a thick cardboard folder for a dollar.

Well, if I come across any at a thrift store or goodwill I will let you know and pop them in the mail. I had some foil cabbage patch stickers in my binder once upon a time.

Haha, some childhood things come back in style.
I found tomagotchi's at Target (the old school graphics and whatnot...is that called analog???...no updates at all) not that long ago. Those were huge when I was in the 7th grade. I'm just DYING for pogs to make a comeback (a few years further back). Totally not scrapbook related, but you know...just reminiscing. I search on eBay on occasion for Pogs/Slammers. I remember going to the local dollar stores for sheets of them when I was probably 7ish.

Laser stickers were all the rage back then. I mean they still make them, but holographic/shiny anything was Top Tier. Sticker trading was a legitimate side business - I'd swap for stationary supplies, snacks, and of course other stickers. Teachers who gave out stamps instead of stickers were not well liked. *chuckles* Fuzzy stickers! I loved the velvety texture of them; still my biggest sub-collection. I had a Tamagochi too; still do in fact. it's hanging on my crafting lamp right now. Dead of course; the battery is long gone. Maybe one day I'll resurrect the poor thing. And pogs! I had a bunch of Lion King ones and then loads of random shiny foil ones, dragons, a pegasus, and crazy designs... pretty sure those I gave away.
@kendramage - that's sweet of you! Only if they're not expensive though, I wouldn't want to put anyone out a significant amount of money. I'm not unhappy with what I've already got. Every once in a while I'll pull out my binder and flip through the stickers just for the nostalgia. Always makes me smile.

I got glorious green, rose red and orchid opulence. Those were open and I tested them and they were fine. I bought an umopened white which worked great on dark cardstock, and a color called vanilla, which was also unopened, and it was pretty crappy. So one out of 5, I thought about emailing Stampin up, but there really isn't a way to prove I bought it still in the packaging.

4/5's not bad, even if you struck out on the Vanilla. Could try picking up a reinker, and washing out the pad? I'm not sure which type of ink SU! uses, or if that would be worth a shot.

The thrift faeries were generous today, and I brought home a baker's dozen embossing folders/templates for 2.40$ and a copy of Twilight Princess for Gamecube for the same price. All the rectangular ones are double-sided with the exception of the deep fan scallop on the far right. I already had three of these but for that price, there was no way I was leaving the bag behind! My favourite so far is the green critter plate.

I haven't found anything good at thrift stores, but I did find some good things at the LSS "garage sale" several years ago. My best find was a very, very high quality, sturdy rolling tote, with a bunch of Sizzix steel rule dies inside. There was only one die that was a duplicate. I got the entire lot, including the bag, for $25. I would have paid that just to get the bag. It's the sturdiest rolling tote I have ever seen.
I no longer live near any LSS. The thrift stores are a bit of a drive, too.

I've yet to find a steel rule die second hand, but I'm hoping one day. That sounds like a really useful tote, not to mention a whole mega-load of dies!

This is awesome! I collect stickers as well. So I know you had to be excited to find these I was. n_n Still am. They're so very eighties aesthetic - even the owl is posed with rainbows, poor thing. I don't find stickers too often, usually it's very small amounts and already applied to things. Found some old 90s hotp 8.5x11 baby girl papers. Love that stuff. Vintage papers are always fun to come across - it's interesting to see which trends have died off, and which ones endure the test of time. hotp = 'Hot off the Press', I presume?

mrssch Your Cuttlekids find is so adorable. The price even better. I agree with Embri I would have gone bananas to have a die cutting machine when I was a little girl. I always love the threads where little girls are wanting die cut machines for their birthdays or Christmas. I am always enabling the parents to buy this or that, lol. Embri- Girl! Are you serious! $2.40 for Twilight Princess. OMG, OMG, OMG. Who cares about your embossing plates, ROFL (teasing). I can't believe you got Twilight Princess for that price. Game Cube was the best. Just the absolute best. I showed my DH your picture and he was even more excited. We were like she needs to move the embossing plates and put Zelda front and center. Twilight Princess is the best game in the series. I am so getting flamed for saying that, ROFL! You just made this Gamer Girl hyperventilate. Are you playing it? The sticker girl in me is hyperventilating at your retro find. This is the girl that has close to 1000 sticker packages. I am being serious. I am a proud sticker collector. A lot of my childhood money went to the stationery stores for Sandy Lion stickers. I still hit the vending machines for stickers. I traded stickers too. I was the teacher's pet so I could get stickers. I was the best straight A student. I wanted more than anything the scratch sniff pizza sticker, lol. Nothing at thrift stores for me recently. I really haven't been thrifting. I really want to go. The weather has been so bad in my area with lots of flooding.
