So, we ended up having a full on snow day yesterday... not just my daughter's school was closed but also all state offices and my husband and I both work for the state so we had a full family snow day... with a record snow storm... we got 22.6 inches! With our snow day I ended up having time to work on my December daily and was motivated! I created a flip out page for Day 1 with a quick summary of our trip to Boston with a lot of photos and our driving home on December 1. Then Day 2 the story is going to me the snow day and I took some really cute photos of my daughter out in the snow. I started putting it together last night but will finish it when I get home. We plan to put the tree/decorations up after dinner tonight so that will likely be my Day 3 story. I decided I am going to try to do most of my project outside of page protectors, the pockets are just boring me this year... and I'm excited for this project again! I'm sharing my pages on my crafty Instagram @lindalovescreating and using our hashtag #peacemberdaily. It's hard to get photos when it gets dark so early here, but my goal is to post the day after like Ali does. I can't believe how quickly this season is going... there is still so much to do! I actually think I will end up having the problem that I have too many stories I want to tell and will be stuck with some untold stories with the one story per day approach. But I love this time of year

Wow. It's been crazy. Thanksgiving we went to my parents house and all the family was there. The kids always decorate the tree so I got some great pics and that's my day 1. Day 2 I did of us going to get our tree.
But get this. Before we got home, my husband's hands were covered in welts! The tree is an evil demon and the needles are like real needles and everytime it poked him, he would swell up in that area. We somehow got lights on it without being scratched to bits but we had to put half the ornaments away. If they didn't have a hook, the tree would bite you putting the ornaments on! So we set what we could on the branches but had to give up.
I've never had a tree try to hurt us!
So that is day 3. I'm going to see if Aaron will recreate the moment when one of the needles was actually stuck in his finger. I took a picture of the tree all pretty but I'm going to write about it being evil and take some close-ups of its evilness.
But here's the other thing. My daughter is 11 now and clearly knows the elf is not real anymore but she really wanted the elf to be real. So I found a green bag and Owen showed up with the bag so she got to look through the bag and we talked about how she is now the creator of magic and she gets to move the elf. I was bawling. The elf has really brought so much joy. I mean he came with me to Disney last year!
So the good news is that she is loving moving the elf. She has been searching for ideas and has a long list of things to do with him.
But overall it's bittersweet, the growing up. We are past the halfway point of her living in our house and it's just hard for me.
I can't have anymore kids and that was never the plan but that's life and she's great so anyway.
I love Christmas. I'm going to buy a pink tree that's pre-lit when I get a good deal. If you're going to go fake, might as well go all the way.
I love seeing everyone's pages on Insta!

Wow, that sounds like a couple of great days to document. Love/hate the evil tree! OUCH! I love Christmas. I'm going to buy a pink tree that's pre-lit when I get a good deal. If you're going to go fake, might as well go all the way. Just a hint about pre-lit - it's awesome, until the lights burn out. At that point you can still rescue the tree - you can cut all the lights off and toss them in the trash. I had welts on my hands from that process a few years ago. So personally I won't get pre-lit next time. The tree just has such a longer life than the lights do. But then again, pre-lit is so much more LIT than I can ever be bothered to do, so it's a trade-off.

It’s not the standard bulb. So pro tip: put the extras where you’ll find them in about 6 years. Lol my tree is on its 6th Christmas and bulbs are just now starting to go. Hoping to squeeze a few more years and then I’ll buy a new one and keep the replacement bulbs in my safe. For me it’s no contest on getting prelit. It makes a world of difference for me.

My new tree I taped them inside the pot because it’s a potted tree.

I am totally loving checking out Ali's blog each day & watching her video ...... I really liked Ali's day 2 but I do have to say I was distracted as to why Ali is wearing a puffy jacket + a ski hat! Was she doing this video at night when everyone was in bed and the heat was off?

Was she doing this video at night when everyone was in bed and the heat was off? lol. that's weird! I have noticed her wearing long long sleeves like she gets very cold (although a friend pointed out that some people wear the thumbhole sleeves all the time to hide scars from cutting, which I don't think is the case but I could never get out of my mind). I wondered if she's just a cold person, or if they keep the house cool. My hubby is known to work from home in a puffy coat or a beanie at times... but that's because our 100 yo house can't seem to hold onto heat and we're cheap - we have the heat set to ~63F when we're home. I wouldn't have though AE would be crazy like us though.

Was she doing this video at night when everyone was in bed and the heat was off? She’s wearing a baseball cap, not a ski hat. I took it like she was filming right before or right after a workout or a run. I know she’s been wearing a puffy jacket in the photos of her walks/runs on her wellness Instagram.

blemon it is hard when those little traditions change as your children grow, but it's so lovely to watch as they continue to play along into adulthood and to cherish all those special memories by recreating them. Maybe mine do it just to please me, but Father Christmas still visits when everyone's gone to bed on Christmas Eve to fill stockings and no-one would dare express doubt or disbelief! We've never had an elf, but German Godparents taught our son about St Nikolaus' visit and he's still careful to polish his shoes for the 6th December "just in case"! (And yes, he's sometimes lucky, if I remember to organise something fun!) Did I mention he's now 35?!

Yesterday the two youngest decorated the big window with snowflakes and snowmen. I have to grab a pic of the finished product today because it was dark when they finished. (Is it wrong that I'm excited that i have a snowflake mini punch and snowmen stamps and i know that page will turn out good?!😁)

My 10 year old and I were at Target waiting on a nice lady to get us some Andes crushed up peppermint chocolates for baking. She was perusing, what I call, the stocking stuffer wall. It's all single serve candies and smaller toys, etc. Anyway, she pulls out this marshmallow filled Santa and proceeds to read the name "Russell Stephen King marshmallow" and puts it back. I did a double take and asked her to read it again. "Russell Stephen... oh. Russell Stover." I died laughing. She's a total bookworm (or book dragon, as we call her) and it still cracks me up she made that mistake.
I totally asked her to stand there with the marshmallow filled thing for a photo for my DD and I'll never look at Russell Stover candy the same again.

This is the kind of story I love to capture in my DD, too. Those little moments you can't plan, but tell so much about your family and what life is like right now and that you'll always remember, especially now that it's documented. These are the best!

Sorry for the unplanned leave of absence, ladies. We had a family emergency to deal with. Catching up with the prompts right away! Prompt n°2: Mug Life #PeaSpecial
This one is for the Starbucks folks, the hot cocoa lovers, the special Christmas mug fans. It's Monday (oh no!), many of us are headed to work, dropping children off at school, being busy with everyday life. It's the perfect day to capture that tiny glimpse of festivity we like to include throughout the month. Get your specialty mug, Starbucks morning drink, holiday edition Nespresso capsule or other "holiday-ified" daily pleasure recorded today. Photo ideas: Instead of just capturing your Starbucks cup or special mug, try to include some context to give your photo more historical credit when you look back years down the line. Consider taking a photo of your cup in your car cupholder, showing the dashboard and interior in the background. Think of zooming out and including your kitchen as the backdrop if you're recording a special Christmas mug you use at home. Or the office if you dare to snap a photo at work. All these daily spheres change throughout the years, including them in your album will be an extra treat to behold when you flip through the pages 10-20 years down the line. Song of the day:

First of all, I absolutely LOVE that this thread has become a place for our December stories, I've been finding myself looking forward to seeing if there any replies in here (not that I wasn't looking forward before, but not it feels rather special in here right now). Hugs to all of you who are finding this month hard. It's been rather quiet this past couple of days, today I am just catching up on my DD (already!) and doing some tidying before we get our tree at the weekend, yesterday I popped into our local florist to buy a few things for the wreath I'll make next week. But Monday was a bit special. Went to East London with a friend and wandered around Spitalfields. We ate bao for lunch, got a (free!) mince pie from a favourite baker with a coffee, enjoyed the neon Christmas lights and drank mulled wine, but we were mostly down to visit Dennis Severs' House, It's a strange place, not quite a museum, not quite an art installation, but the experience is incredible and wonderous. It's a house that is decorated as if it were still in the 18th century, and at this time of year is full of Christmas decorations. You are greeted at the entrance and then you step through into the house. No phone and photos are allowed and you are to tour the building in silence. You essentially step into a time warp. It really feels like you are suddenly in the Victorian era, with furniture, Christmas food, letters, toys and books left just so that you get the feeling that the family who live here have just nipped out. There are no plaques, no information on the history, just an immersive space. There must be electricity in there because there is piped sound where you hear the faint toll of a church bell or a rumble of a horse and cart in the street below, but you can't see any speakers. You don't see any electric lights either, the house is lit as it would have been all those years ago, with candles (real ones!) and the fires in the hearths are the only form of heating. It made me very grateful for central heating and double glazing! As you enter the servants quarters, it feels as sparse and poor as it should, with simple furniture, clothes hanging everywhere, holes in the ceiling plugged with sheets, the only Christmas decorations being a paper chain made from newspaper, a tiny chair by the fire, with a tiny walking stick lent against it. And for some proper realism, an actual live black cat sat at the end of the butler's bed, wagging her tail angrily at all these visitors walking around in her room. It's an experience like no other and you come out of the house blinking and finding the sunlight and skyscrapers around you jarring. Okay, that was really long, sorry! I guess I have just written my journaling for that day : : (picture attached of the house. If you ever visit London, I urge you to come here!)

Prompt n°3: Walking in a Christmas wonderland
The holidays have been steadily taking over the outside world for a few months but by now, everything's decked out. The streets, stores, office, local café, schools are all giving off major Christmas vibes. Before you get overwhelmed with everything on your to-do list or forget about it, take out your phone or camera to snap a photo of one of your favourite bits of Christmas overlay in the world outside of your home this year. Photo ideas: Your favourite store's festive window display, a scenery photo that encapsulates as much of the town atmosphere as possible, the view from where you sit at the cafeteria at work for lunch, a holiday ad or display you see on your daily commute, etc. Bonus points if you can capture it on a snow day! Song of the day:

Prompt n°4: Something old, something new
December is a month filled with traditions, memories from the past and nostalgia. We love to reminisce about what we did and had for the holidays as children. Take the time to look at how there is something from your past that has its contemporary twin in the present. Maybe an old family ornament next to a new one you purchased recently on the tree? The row of December Daily albums on your shelves with a view of your current scrappy desk showing you working on your 2019 album? The Christmas pyjamas you bought for your ever-growing children last year and that are now in the donate pile versus the new ones you got them this year? Bring past and present together, embrace how they weave the fabric of your life and Christmas spirit. Photo idea: Play up the contrast of old and new. Can you find a moment to take a portrait of a young one from the family sitting on the lap of a grandparent, each holding up an old vs young of something (Christmas book, ornament, nutcracker)? Song of the day:

Just watched the fourth of Shimelle's Journal your Christmas videos and am really loving her no fuss approach. I really like how she's refreshed the prompts and how "real world" she's keeping it. It's also interesting how she's placing embellishments and tags flush with the edge of the background paper. I'm not quite so sure I like that so much, but I'll give it time...maybe it will grow on me. What do you other JYC folks think?

My day 3 story is quite a fun and unusual “December story”. Our youngest (and largest at 150 pounds) Great Dane caught a possum. Both our dog and the possum were unharmed but the hilariousness of my husband, in his bath robe, trying to scare the possum off our deck with a stick and umbrella, like he was brandishing a sword and shield (which of course made the possum play dead) makes for a fun story and a memory I want to document. I didn’t get a picture of my husband but I do have one of the playing dead possum. ETA: I also got a picture of two of our Danes worn out after the excitement. The spotted one is Niklaus, the possum whisperer.
