I (half)watched The Knight Before Christmas and (for the first time ever) White Christmas. I might be a bit grinchy because my reaction to both was pretty meh. OMG. I loved this. Yes, full of holes. But I thought it was delightful. I accept the genre is 1/2 step above daily soaps and embrace. Norwegian Christmas series on Netflix "Home for Christmas" (Hjem til Jul) I agree. I thought this series was quite good. I watched the dubbed version so I could space out and play candy crush on my phone at the same time. This week I watched A Holiday Rush on Netflix which I thought was really good. I won't give any spoilers but I enjoyed it. The main actor is the guy who plays Rome in A Million Little Things. He's basically the same character. I like him. I like Christmas Inheritance, mainly because I kept forgetting the actress wasn't Reese Witherspoon. I recommend! I remember the main actor from something and he's pretty good in this. A nice cast and predictable in that holiday movie way. Klaus was fantastic. Don't forget Christmas Calendar from last year. I remember liking that. And we watched Christmas Chronicles last year and really liked it too. More like Klaus and less like a cheesy Christmas movie. Last night I watched Holly Star and it was great. The ending was a bit abrupt but the puppetry throughout was worth any rushed ending. Just incredible. Last year was watched a Very Murray Christmas and it was just awful. We are HUGE Bill Murray fans so a word of caution to you all. Ok, that's all of my Netflix reviews for now! Ha ha!! I was able to watch a Lifetime movie On Demand through xfinity somehow about two women who open an antique shop in a town and it was lovely. Then I remembered I can search Netflix. So the consensus on Holiday in the Wild is a no? And what about the whole line of Christmas Prince movies? There's like a wedding one and a baby one. They look just awful and my standards are quite low. Tell me what you think. Ok, we have nothing to do today until 3:45 when the local ice skating club is putting on a holiday performance that we're going to check out. Off to work on some pages.

And what about the whole line of Christmas Prince movies? There's like a wedding one and a baby one. They look just awful and my standards are quite low. Tell me what you think. They're very bad! Well, TBH I only watched the first love one and distractedly watched the 2nd wedding one, but even the 3 min trailer for the 3rd baby one had me cringing. Somehow I think it was even worse with subtitles (I watched the trailer on IG). At least the 1st one has a wolf attack scene, which you'll never get on Hallmark! Has anyone watched the baby one?

Has anyone watched the baby one? I have. I couldn't focus on the movie and had to rewind again and again. I didn't like it much. Eta: if you didn't like the second movie, you won't like the third any more, I'm afraid.

Wolf attack? Oh my. Someone was inspired by Beauty and the Beast. Euro-wolves, no less. Aldovia apparently has a lot of wolves... I was texting with my friend when it first came out, designing my Hallmark holiday romance bingo cards, and she said there was a Hallmark movie with a "saved from a wolf attack" moment in it. I was 100% certain that it could not be on the Hallmark channel, and I was correct. No wolves on Hallmark bingo. (Amongst other things that aren't part of their world). Thanks for the LGBTQ recs. Slim pickings...

We've watched several holiday movies this month. Though all kid friendly ones, as that's who is watching with me.
No Hallmark movies for us.

Fred Claus The Santa Clause Elf National Lampoons Christmas Vacation The rest we watched were for young children, very saccharine.

Any recommendations for kid movies that are fun for grown ups without kids? I really liked Klaus. Have you seen it on Netflix yet. Definitely for kids but we all loved it. Don't forget a Christmas Story. I also like the Grinch Who Stole Xmas with Jim Carrey. He's incredible in that. I will let you know about any others that I think of. I just bought Miracle on 34th St. Haven't seen it in years!

Funny story from today:
We went to this local ice skating show. It was lovely. But now that Z "holds the magic to the elf", she wants to bring him with us on holiday outings. So off we went to the ice rink. Owen gets propped up in the window to watch the show and these little kids come in and are very excited to see the elf. It's time to leave so she grabs him and puts him in her bag. The kid's like, she touched him. Oh no.
And I was like (inspired by genius or something, who knows), He's retired.
The kid (totally clueless about what retired means and I'm getting no help from his Grandma) goes, but what about the magic? Does he do things around the house?
So I'm like, It's cool. He doesn't work for Santa anymore. When she was little, he was very busy but now he is old and doesn't have to work anymore. He is enjoying his retirement by coming with us to holiday events.
Ha!
I think he finally understood but unfortunately his Grandma isn't fully retired yet so he doesn't understand. I hope she helps out!

If you like classic movies Shop Around the Corner is great, very funny. Not super Christmasy, but TCM shows it this time of year and it is set around Christmas time. More classics are Holiday Affair (Robert Mitchum, hubba hubba), White Christmas, Christmas in Connecticut, The Bishop’s Wife, and Little Women. I also love the Muppet Christmas Carol, my mom who is not a Disney or Muppet person at all watched it with me and really enjoyed it. It is a great version, Michael Caine is great and plays Ebeneezer completely straight even when surrounded by Muppets.

I LOVE MUPPETS CHRISTMAS CAROL SO MUCH! That's the film I always put on when I'm putting the decorations up. Also Arthur Christmas, The Snowman (a silent 30min short film based on the Raymond Briggs book, it's so, so beautiful and always makes me cry), I like the sequel/remake The Snowman and the Snowdog too, it's very sweet, although I don't know if you're able to get it in the US? Also really worth checking out if you are able is The Box Of Delights, an old BBC TV series. I remember watching this as a child and it is the most Christmassy, magical thing. I have just bought the DVD for my kids and I'm so excited to watch it with them. This is a good article about it (spoiler though) I am slowly plodding along with my DD. Just finishing day 10 at the moment. Most days are pretty simple but there's a couple where I've really gone all out and I'm so pleased with how they look. Will try to get some photos. We've been quite busy over here - I've hosted drinks (gingerbread syrup + prosecco = YUM), we've been on a Christmas steam train ride, I've made a wreath and there's been the general election and while I'm upset with the result, will have to go into the album because it was such a significant moment. Sigh. And to forget the election, my other half and I saw Knives Out at the cinema. SO much fun! Even with Daniel Craig's accent which I am still trying to get my head around. Have yet to see Last Christmas still and with star Wars and Little Women out sson, I'm not sure if I'll get a chance, although someone was telling me that some characters come out of Ally Pally ice skating and walk straight onto Regents Street. They're actually seven miles away and I'm pedant enough to find that really annoying. Give me all the magic and fantasy, but as someone takes the wrong tube to get somewhere it's really jarring.

Morning (or afternoon/evening) Christmas crafters.
FYI - Cathy Zielske did a tutorial on Instagram about printing 3x8 photos on her Epson picture mate. Might be handy to check out for any of you printing with that printer.
Something is off this year for me. Normally I get a good start on my album during the month of December, but this year the desire isn't there. I'm blaming very late Thanksgiving, everything seems so rushed this year. Also my oldest (almost 16) is super swamped with homework and a huge research paper due the 22nd. That coupled with recovery from foot surgery (in a walking boot) she hasn't joined us in much of our Christmas activities (getting tree, movies, walking around downtown). I'm trying hard not to fall into a grinchy funk.

I think we need to have a December-Daily-in-January project. I always feel crappy in January, so I think I'd rather re-live each day of December in January by putting my album together then. a million times yes! I’m 90% there and have had the album, unfinished, on my desk for two years! A girl after my own heart!

Not to mention sadness over being ill or losing someone you lost can make the most cheerful among us down in the dumps. On a silly side not, who on earth gives a huge research paper that is due the last day before Christmas break? Crazy!

I'm blaming very late Thanksgiving, everything seems so rushed this year. I hear you! Definitely Thanksgiving is to blame. Sorry about your daughter. I hope she feels better soon! I also love the Muppet Christmas Carol YES!!! I need to get this. OMG, I wanted to watch one of the shows from the LGBTQ link I posted so I started with Merry Happy Whatever and it is awful. I stopped it once 5 minutes in but thought I would give it a second go. The laugh track is off. The kids are overacting in a terrible way and have such bad timing. I like the main character but her boyfriend is not as hot as she is and that pisses me off. I know that's really messed up of me but it's like impossible for any woman of average looks to land a good lead but any dude with a 5 o'clock shadow will do. Anyway, my feminism is weird. Sorry. Also Dennis Quaid has had some work done and wow. Ok, if any of you has been able to stomach more than 2 episodes of this, please let me know. I kinda want to know what happens but I don't think I can do it.

Sorry about yet another unexpected absence. My SO's sibling took a turn for the worse and we just packed a bag, called our employers and left. It's been the most off December in my life, I think. We're back now. Emergency surgery is over and has gone well. I think we're truly on the way to recovery now! *crosses fingers* I'm going to put on a Christmas movie and try to catch up on this thread and post a couple of belated prompts. On the belated front, happiest birthday wishes to our beloved mom! You're an awesome lady and I can't imagine 2PR without you. May the people in your life have made you feel loved and important on your special day. And may this new cycle around the sun bring you loads of everyday joy and happiness. You deserve it!

blemon Are you my long lost twin? We share a lot of Christmas movie/series loves and hates this year! Couldn't make it through Royal Baby or Happy Merry Whatever. Absolutely loved Klaus. Totes enjoyed The Knight Before Christmas despite its imperfections and holes. Count me among the Muppet Christmas Carol fans, ladies! This is the first Christmas movie I ever saw (no TV at home growing up). I loved it then, I love it now. I rate it first on my holiday movie list, just above Elf and alternative Christmas movie In Bruges (ugh, so good). I can sing every.single.lyric in it and I'll fight anyone who doesn't like the singing food ("Even the vegetables don't like him"). It Feels Like Christmas is just such a wonderful song about what Christmas means to me.

That coupled with recovery from foot surgery (in a walking boot) she hasn't joined us in much of our Christmas activities (getting tree, movies, walking around downtown). I'm trying hard not to fall into a grinchy funk. Hey, it's not always easy and it's not always an entire month of fun and looking forward to Christmas. I'm having a crappy December so far as well but we're only halfway through. I look at it now from the perspective of making the second half of the month more enjoyable and relaxed. Missed the entrée, not the main course! Best wishes to your daughther for her recovery and research paper. The Snowman (a silent 30min short film based on the Raymond Briggs book, it's so, so beautiful and always makes me cry) I had this book growing up and saw the movie a few years ago. Both still make me bawl. Heartbreakingly beautiful and such a touching way to represent the cycle of life. Also really worth checking out if you are able is The Box Of Delights, an old BBC TV series. I remember watching this as a child and it is the most Christmassy, magical thing. I know a lot of Beeb shows but never got around to this one! Just popped out the DVD set of You Rang M'Lord but I should try to hunt down The Box of Delights before December ends. Thanks for the recommendation. there's been the general election and while I'm upset with the result, will have to go into the album because it was such a significant moment. *hugs* It was the expected outcome but it still hurt. I also love the Muppet Christmas Carol, my mom who is not a Disney or Muppet person at all watched it with me and really enjoyed it. It is a great version, Michael Caine is great and plays Ebeneezer completely straight even when surrounded by Muppets. It is magic. Pure magic. It's not that known in France so I've had the opportunity to introduce several people to this and not a single one didn't end up loving it. But now that Z "holds the magic to the elf", she wants to bring him with us on holiday outings. So off we went to the ice rink. Owen gets propped up in the window to watch the show and these little kids come in and are very excited to see the elf. It's time to leave so she grabs him and puts him in her bag. Oof, quick thinking and great improv' work! *high fives blemon* Any recommendations for kid movies that are fun for grown ups without kids? Do you like drama? I found Netflix's Holiday Secrets (German limited series) engrossing. It has a few red herring moments at first, it has good tension, beautiful scenery and just that amount of wacky to make it special. Haven’t watched any Christmas movies yet but am collecting some on my list for when work finishes on Friday. 5 days and counting. Woohoo! Almost there, anniefb, almost.

Prompt n°12: December mosaicThis is your "have some scrappy fun" prompt! Go ahead and create a mosaic using photos, memorabilia, pattern papers, cardstock, embellishments, etc. Put stuff together and enjoy yourself in the process! Do you want to create a full page of similar geometric shapes? Do you want to make more of a patchwork (looks amazing if you add stitching)? Do you want to full up a whole 2x2 square page protector? Do you want to create a kaleidoscope of Christmas colours? Whatever it is, let the artist inside you guide your work. This is about putting the scrap back in the December documenting! Mosaic ideas: Receipts of things you bought (and handwritten grocery lists), close-up shots of seasonal decorations, photos of what everyone in the household has been doing this month (crafting, homework, house renovations, knitting, baking), extra pics from the family holiday card photo session, wrapping and packaging of all the tasty Christmas-themed food and drinks you brought back home this year, etc. Song of the day:
