However working for AC as a graphic designer is no different to working for Walmart as a graphic designer. You produce work for that brand. This is so interesting to me! So why then do some lines have "create by (insert name, let's just say Steve Duncan) and some just don't? Do some designers, based on talent or whatnot get a byline and some are just stable workhorses? Also, isn't that upsetting to create something and not have your name attached to it? I don't know, I think I might be a bit bummed about that. I think it’s because Steven Duncan has a following - so they want to shout about it. He also is designing for a brand, Carta Bella, and their collections rather than a brand within a brand (ie. Maggie Holmes under AC) where they want to give this illusion that all the work is designed by Maggie Holmes. Also it’s normal to not get credit for the designs when you work in-house. It’s like all the designers that design greetings cards for Hallmark, they don’t get credit on the back of every greetings card. Its similar for people who work full time for a single brand and copywrite or write articles, stories and other content for that brand - it’s their words but they aren’t owed any credit for them. They wrote the words but they belong to the brand who paid for them.

I mean, we can all pinpoint the EXACT moment Jasmine Jones joined AC's in-house design team. She is part of the modernisation of Crate Paper at AC. Her design aesthetic is all over Maggie Holmes's Heritage and Sunny Days collections, CP's Merry Days and La La Love, etc. That's the artist. In this case, Maggie is selling her name and collab work. I expect to see her engage online through various means to sell this line. Which she's doing. Contract accomplished. I really wish the companies were more transparent with who is designing. I am drawn to the art (like you mention with Lori/Steve) and would appreciate knowing just how these items I'm using are created. I really don't *care* if the designer/name is helping promote their product or not! I appreciate a design team approach just as much as a "name". I had no idea that Jasmine Jones was behind scenes like this... In an industry like paper crafting the same names float around for years and people get attached to individuals and their designs. Scrapbooking is so personal that it’s easy to see why people fall in love with particular designers styles and ways of working. However working for AC as a graphic designer is no different to working for Walmart as a graphic designer. You produce work for that brand. It’s not yours, it’s owned by AC or Walmart. In the eyes of the brand, it has no relevance to the consumer who the designer is which is why they are not transparent. It’s not the business of the consumer to know who the designers behind the artwork is. People want to know though, because they follow the same designers for years in this industry. But AC will most likely never be more transparent about who’s designing for their brands as it’s not really relevant to the consumer in their eyes.

I don’t have any advice but thank you for asking the question. I have an album from Studio Calico that has discoloured in the sun and I’m desperate to cover it up.

So my online LSS is now selling Ali Edwards products. Nothing groundbreaking but AE products none the less. Looks like AE has branched out into wholesale. www.heylittlemagpie.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=Ali+EdwardsI hope the offering improves as I would love to order AE without ordering from the US. Especially albums and pp’s.

I use Wow on the occasion that I heat emboss and I really like it. You can buy small, singular pots which appealed to me.
Haven’t tried any others apart from Zing from American Crafts and I really didn’t like it. It dried so chunky.

I chose stamps in the poll but the more I think about it - I can’t scrap without die cuts whether that’s ephemera or labels I’ve fussy cut. So for me - die cut pieces are a must. Anything dimensional after that like puffy stickers or chipboard shapes.

Ladies, I just wanted to give a quick update about FYC for anyone interested - it's my first kit. I got the Local Living kit.
The shipping was ridiculously fast from US to UK - 7 days and it was fully trackable. I got an email to say it had been posted through my door! That is so rare with US shipping unless it comes via UPS - it usually says its arrived in London and then I get no additional tracking.
The stamp is just beautiful. Can't wait to use it.
The cards are lovely and thick and printed really nice quality.
Downside - it's flipping expensive for what it is but equally I have no regrets and would purchase again. I bought the ephemera as an add on and I'm so glad I did, as it would be really sparse without. No embellishments come with it, just cards, 6x4 stamp and the digital kit.

Anyone who did want this months kit, you can save $12 with the code SAVE12 and it works on month to month too. At least it did when I tried last night with the documenter kit.

Also $12 USD is about £14.50 GBP Coffee for peachiceteas! It's the other way around. (£12 would be US$14.50-ish, US$12 is approx. £9.60) Oops - that’s me and my frustration at the pound to dollar right now on overdrive!

When I go to B&N I am amazed at the number of art and craft magazines from the UK. They are expensive in American dollars, but I wonder if they are considered expensive in the UK. For example, one magazine I have is $12USD but 4.40GBP. Is that considered expensive in Britain? Also $12 USD is about £14.50 GBP - which would be expensive for a magazine. £4.40 is like the price of a large coffee from Starbucks which I think is totally fine for a specialist magazine.

For example, one magazine I have is $12USD but 4.40GBP. Is that considered expensive in Britain? No, not for a specialist interest magazine. And they almost always come with something for free - stamps, papers, sometimes even dies. The UK doesnt have a good scrapbooking magazine in my opinion but we have loads of sewing, card making and general paper craft magazines. And you can buy them in most places too, not just specialist magazine stores.

I bought my first Feed Your Craft kit this month. Kind of pricy considering there are no embellishments but thought I’d give it a go. I’ll probably go for it on the months Geralyn Sy designs for them.

I think it was mentioned in an earlier comment, but when sorting my digital files this morning it was the first time I noticed going through the cards. Unsurprisingly all the fan comments love the quote and 2nd card so they can stop hoarding the first I'm totally questioning sticking with the kits at this point. [b Not sure about the explanation. Loves the quote, OK, but can't she keep track of which ones she used already? Otherwise they'll be the same ones over and over again. I do feel quotes are personal anyway. Something that speaks to you won't make sense to someone else. Her response says to me that she isn’t thinking about the customer at all. She’s designing product in isolation, not looking at past months or across the whole year. I don’t give two shits if it’s a quote she loves - think about the customer who’s spending their hard earned pennies on your product and the fact they won’t want duplicated cards.

This doesn’t sound to me like he’s not supportive of your hobby. It sounds very similar to the situation my parents in law are going through right now and maybe I can share some advice.
FIL was away from home a lot as he worked long shifts and weekends, and now he’s retired. MIL is getting frustrated over certain attitudes and ways of living that she hasn’t really had to deal with on a long term basis for a while and it’s easy to see that FIL and MIL are actually having to learn how to full time live with each other after so many years of him being at home on a part time basis, or irregular basis with his shift work. They love each other completely, but they are having to both adapt to having the other person around all the time.
I think your husband is probably going through a bit of a personal crisis if he has left his job and is having to adapt to being at home again. Now that isn’t to say I don’t think he is being unreasonable - I think he is being insensitive but I can’t imagine it’s personal or not supportive of your hobby. How has he been over the last 20 years? Is this a new thing that he seems to be unsupportive of your hobby or has there always been an underlying tone?
I hope you manage to reach a compromise - I’m sure you will! This will most likely just be a learning curve for you both, having to adapt to your new lifestyle where you live in each others pockets a bit more.

I decided a while back to only follow crafters who genuinely still love scrapbooking. Shimelle, Paige Evans, Janet from RTS, Alyssa (she’s a pea), Steakgoddess (also a pea). Those are a few crafty ladies coming to mind, but I know there are more. Becky Higgins and her creepy puppeteer Becky Proudfit can chase the lifestyle fame like Teresa Collins. CZ can chase the kind card clique. Amy Tan can chase popsicles. I’ll be over here with my paper and pictures scrapbooking. I hope you find that spark again. Forget all the rest. I actually forgot about how dreadful Amy Tan has become. I unfollowed her on all social media as every second post was an ad, completely unrelated to scrapbooking. I’m still unsure how she has become qualified to tell people how to live their lives.

I like julimakesthings - her videos are short but she’s real and down to earth. I used to enjoy watching Inkie Quill but my style is so far removed from hers now that I can’t relate. You may enjoy her videos though.I was thinking you had to be a paid member for her videos? I didn't realize I could still get them free. She posts a lot more on Patreon these days which is paid for, but she still uploads regular-ish free YouTube content.

I think this is why 'staying in your own lane' is so important and a valid sentiment in so many walks of life. Social media has been a wonderful invention but in so many ways, it's damaging.
The minute I start worrying about how what I am doing doesn't match up to other people, I switch off and I'm not interested. I won't have anyone tell me how to do this hobby of mine.
I unfollow people regularly on social media who aren't sparking joy anymore. And sometimes it's my own insecurities that mean they are bringing me down but life's too short to allow those feelings into your life.

I can imagine it being a good collection for a project like Week in the Life if you work in an office like I do. Last time I did that project, a lot of the documenting I did was of my life at the office since I’m there from 9-5 Monday to Friday.

No worries y'all! They've add a 12x12 'ART PRINT' to the new shop....for....$5. Its also been known as a piece of 12x12 paper that didn't sell for .99 in its previous life. LINKI honestly thought they couldn’t shock me anymore. That is ABSURD

I wish more companies would bring out 6x8 size too. They seem to exist in dwindling quantities in the U.K. - I need three of the same album for my honeymoon album and I’ll have to buy them from three different retailers as nobody has stock of more than one!

Not interested. The internet is a wealth of wonderful, free information and articles.
I’d rather buy a stamp set or a new ink pad or two instead for the same price.

Who knows. They probably don’t even know. I don’t care for these kits at all. I like the color green they used, but altogether everything looks drab. They needed something with some contrast. The stamps are actually really good, but not good enough for me to order at full price. I feel like the kits are really flat. The cork pieces are the only thing that has any dimension. April said in her stories that she designed this kit and all the kits to December so I am hoping this isn't a sneak at what's to come. I agree about the kits being flat. I really like the cards, and the kit actually works out cheaper for me than citrus twist but there’s just nothing in it. I think every kit needs to come with some kind of dimensional embellishment whether it’s puffy stickers, chipboard etc. There is nothing in the new kit of real substance. But I really like the cards.

Girls.. I scrapped today! I actually scrapped. For what must be the first time this year.
It was wonderful. I eliminated all distractions, all cares about perfection - reminding myself done is better than perfect - and by letting myself play and be free, I created some pretty spreads that I'm so happy with for my 6x8 2018 Christmas travel album.
Letting go is so, so freeing.
