I mean, yeah, but there's unfairness in all kinds of sports. Some MLB teams play in a crappy division and get to go to the playoffs by being first in a crappy division, while teams that are better but come in fourth in a really tough division are left out.
Jordan Chiles plays in the gymnastics equivalent of the AL East. Them's the breaks.

It could go either way . Our government has representative by population, but only two Senators per state, whether 1 million people or 100 million people.. Is that fair? Ooohhhhh, now you're going to get this thread tagged politics!

You’re not the AH and neither is he. It’s awesome that he’s trying to make contact with you, but people on the spectrum can respect others’ needs and have theirs respected in return.
If you see him in the morning again, you can just tell him, hey, I don’t mean to be rude but I need quiet in the morning. Happy to chat with you any other time of day. You could even ask him if he has times he doesn’t feel up to socializing and bond in that way.

I'm fortunate that my Republican husband has become disgusted with what the Republican party has become. He won’t vote for any current Republicans except maybe at the hyper local level.
The problem is that he also won’t vote for most Democrats, which in Texas is tantamount to handing your vote to the Republican. No, he can’t articulate what he finds wrong with the Democratic candidates, which is why I get frustrated with people here who say “I just don’t like her” or “I just don’t think she’s qualified” without any details as to why.
We talk about the things we agree about and mostly leave the rest of it alone. Like someone else said upthread, we have long term goals for our marriage. We agree on leaving Texas and moving to a more purple state and/or spending more time overseas. I have to be ok with that for now.

Have you noticed his favorite slur for women is that they are nasty? Ever since 2016! Any woman who doesn't coo and cuddle up to him is "nasty." (Can you believe we've been dealing with this crap for 8 years??)

Then when you have babies who are born with disabilities so severe that they will die shortly after birth, he tries to make it sound like the babies are aborted after birth because parents and doctors allow the baby to pass away rather than prolong their life. He is a monster. But also he wants to prevent women from making the decision to terminate a pregnancy where the resultant baby's life will be short and painful. It's all about control.

I love the new Republican catch phrase: Republicans are weird. I really don't like this calling everything the Republicans do or say as 'weird.' I think the word minimizes the demeaning language, the hatred, calls for violence, racism, the ignorance about history and policy. They aren't weird. Their platform, if you can call it that, and the behavior of their candidates isn't weird, it is wrong. Putting mustard on French fries is weird. Wearing white socks with black shoes is weird. Weird is trivial stuff. These are people who are reducing your rights as citizens. They are dangerous. Also calling the candidates 'weird' risks the trouble Hillary Clinton got into with her deplorables comment. Harris needs to be taken seriously. This isn't the way to do that. I think it’s temporary and they’re using it to get in Trump’s head. Seems to be working!

I’m snickering at the Rs melting down over being called weird. Their whole schtick is that they represent good ol’ normal America and here we go posting up pictures and videos of their strangest cult behavior. It must be very upsetting! 😂
As for Vance, I guess we can be glad (?) that if he felt alienated, he didn’t take a gun and shoot up a school. He just put himself in a place where he can potentially harm millions of women and marginalized folks through legislation. 🙄

Yay! Sounds great. You can either create albums within the Photos app to organize your pics, or if you want to have them as files in the finder you can export groups of photos to any folder you create. Hope that helps. Thanks - I have some time to explore more later today and tomorrow morning as well, so that helps! If I have them as files in the Finder, are they easily accessible for uploading to sites/socials that kind of thing? They should be accessible for that whether you keep them in Photos or in the Finder. Once in a while I run into a place where I can't upload directly from Photos - I have to first export the photo to a file and then can upload it. But that doesn't happen very often.

Twenty years ago, I was a pretty conservative Republican (don’t fall over from shock) and read a lot of National Review. I liked Rod Dreher at the time. Now he is completely unhinged by a woman who makes parodies on TikTok of speaking to the Trump right like preschoolers (which is not far off the mark IMO). x.com/roddreher/status/1818017480176255406?s=46&t=5ZPLoWY3enez0Oe8WYfajwAnyway. Please enjoy his impotent rage with me. I’m sure in Rod’s dream world, women like “Ms. Frazzled” get the leather face binding we’ve seen in the Handmaid’s Tale to keep them silent and frequent use of the cattle prod to keep them compliant. He also seems to have moved to Hungary. I guess he’s a fan of Orban? Seems to track.

I agree 100% with this. Most of the men in my life are the second kind he describes. My husband would die for me or our kids, but more importantly, he is supportive, caring, and present in our lives. He's been an excellent girl dad and has a great relationship with our daughters as young adults. He's committed to our marriage. He works his butt off to provide as well.
Our closest friends, who we consider family, are a similar sort of couple. I called out the husband because he was mildly disparaging himself for not being a "manly man" sort of guy. I said, you co-founded a successful company to support your family, you're a great partner to a strong woman, and you're an involved and active dad for your three sons, one of whom has significant special needs. If that isn't a man, I don't know what is.
The kind of men the Trump Party describes as "men" - overbearing, bullying, gun-obsessed, gotta be right about everything, gotta keep the women in line and make sure the kids know their place - strike me as children. Not men. Most often one more child for their wives to raise. No thank you.

It looks like it would be impossible to get out of when sweaty. You're not wrong lol I had that same thought. My favorite sports bras have a clip in the front, then a reinforcing zipper thingy. If one fails, the other is still in place.. no one gets hurt! A friend of mine (the funny meme king) posted something on social media recently that made me laugh. It said "if you put your bra on backwards and spin it around you're a cougar." LOL I didn't think there was any other way to do it! Then people were saying they pull it on over their head... Two weeks later I'm still thinking about that! I mean, if I put it on like a shirt I'm going to get tangled, strangled or stuck. I certainly can't pull it up over my hips... Yeah, I really only buy the Sweaty Betty Stamina bras these days. They fit well, keep my G-cups in place, and are still stretchy enough that I don't dislocate a shoulder getting out of them. I should add that I don't run or do any very high-impact exercise - I would need something with more support to avoid putting an eye out. I can manage a slow jog in my Sweaty Betties though.

Probably not often enough. Houston isn’t really a tourist town per se, but DH and I were downtown for a baseball game this weekend and commented that we couldn’t remember the last time we attended the opera, symphony, or a Broadway show. All are world class here, so we should make more of an effort.
We do better with getting to the museums and zoo. And we take great advantage of the food scene and live popular music.

I’m a firstborn daughter and former “gifted kid.” Anxiety and constant self-criticism are part of the package. Yes! My dad never thought anything I did was good enough. In college full time - why aren't you working more hours, taking care of the 5 younger siblings, and helping around the house. Then, why did you get a B or why didn't you make your bed?
Luckily I have gotten past the trying to make everyone happy stage of my life. I'm working really hard, with a therapist, to make myself a priority for the first time in my life.Good for you for trying to work through all that old baggage. I’ve also done therapy on this issue - both because of my parents’ deaths and because of the guilt I felt at feeling relieved not to feel bound by their expectations any more. My brother and sister both still have an undercurrent of treating me like the family whipping boy, but I’ve learned to put some boundaries in place and I’m doing much better with that. I hope you’ll continue to find peace.

Three days out, it can be said that the French accomplished two things: they got people talking about the opening ceremony much louder and longer than is usual, and they amplified the ignorance and arrogance of certain groups of people who are happy to double down and make fools of themselves on the world stage.
Bon travail, France!

I love my Apple Watch but I have an iPhone. I’m sure if you have Android their watch versions would be just as convenient.
I love the activity tracking, being able to see if a call or text is something I need to pull out my phone for now, being able to listen to audio books while exercising or doing chores without keeping my phone with me, and lately I’ve been using the Strong app to manage workouts at the gym phone-free.

To say that I am tickled is an understatement. I have 2nd cousins who live in the Villages and they are true red Trumpers. They're hopping mad on FB. Were they hopping mad at all the hate they spread for the past 8 years? Nope. Are they really? I was wondering if it was just a small group that no one noticed. Sounds like it wasn’t!

When I look at the photos of their depiction, it looks much more like a rendition of the last supper than what I find when I look up “painting of Bacchanal.” Perhaps they were trying to combine the two or something, but IMO it was in poor taste and I don’t think anyone would even dare do that to an important symbol of any other religion. That is where my irritation lies. How do you know what the last meal that Jesus shared with his apostles looked like? I’m genuinely interested as I didn’t think it was described in the Bible. I mean the Gospel of St John talks about Jesus washing the feet of the Apostles, and that certainly wasn’t depicted in the Opening Ceremony; and references in other Books of the Bible mention Jesus handing bread out, and that also didn’t seem to be in the Opening Ceremony. I guess I’m just wondering what it was about the Opening Ceremony scene that makes it appear to depict the last meal that Jesus shared with the Apostles? Exactly. There is no description of the scene in the Bible. As far as I know, DaVinci is not considered one of the authors of scripture.

The opening ceremony tableau va the painting referenced. Greek god symbolism makes a lot more sense for the Olympics than Christian symbolism.
