Native southern californian here. Grew up in LA county near the coast. Mostly great weather year round. Now I live in the inland empire. Yes it's hotter, but pretty much everyone here has air conditioning. Yesterday went to my parents house for a family reunion. It was hotter there 107 than my home (only 102). The problem is that hardly anyone in my mom's area has air conditioning. It was miserable there. So glad to be home today. We will continue into the triple digits here until Friday .

I keep looking at the weather.com snd the heat keeps getting extended out. First Wednesday was supposed to be in the 80’s now it’s bumped out to Saturday every day it gets extended a day further . Our electric bill is going to look like a mortgage payment at this rate.

Who had “power going out at 7 am when it’s already 80 out” on their bingo card? Yep. My power is out. It’s a common occurrence here because cars hit the poles. Total suckage. PGE says restore around 11:15 currently. Only affecting 758 people. I live rural so that’s a large area without power! Estimated high today is 113. Should be interesting watching today play out. Thankfully we haven't had any power outages! Our high is supposed to be 108. No relief until next Saturday will be our first day predicted under 100. I'm ready for some cooler weather. We had a brief thunder shower late yesterday afternoon, and then some cooler breezes for awhile, but the HOT is back today!! Stay cool ladies!

It's been on day and night for almost a week. It is only dropping to about 78/79 at night

I had to look up last year's weather. My area of southern Ca had 100°+ days end of July into first of August. 106° was the hottest. So 6 days. I remember thinking that it came early that year. Usually its mid to late Aug we get that high temp heat.

Wow, surprised it hasn't been that bad in my area of the I.E. We have had the mid to high 90s but not over 100° for more than a day.

We got power back at 11 on the dot!
Currently 110.
Tomorrow is supposed to be 116.
We’re over 100 thru at least this coming Saturday.

I'd love some rain right about now. The local lake it sitting at 21% capacity and losing 1% every 3-4 days. This is our source of drinking water. It's also water that is sent down stream for agricultural use.

Well we now have 2 fires. One near Big Bear and one in Hemet.
Hemet fire is 0% contained and at about 1,000 acres. Homes have been destroyed and persons have been hurt. I have seen a few posts that people may be trapped. Evacuation in large area.
One near Big Bear is in the Forrest and super rugged terrain. There is concern it could shift and head towards the city.
Highway 38 is closed near Forrest Falls.
Some smaller areas have been evacuated.

I’m hoping we get the predicted rain this weekend but that it doesn’t cause flooding. We have to drive to Riverside for an MRI which I’m already dreading and I hate driving in rain especially when we haven’t had any for months as the roads will be so slick. I am already afraid to drive on the 91 on a good day. But we do need the rain. It’s supposed to rain on Sunday as well and is the day our new AC is supposed to be installed. If all goes as planned. I hope it doesn’t mess up installation.

Anyone's A/C bite the dust besides mine? I just had it fixed in July, now it's blowing hot air. FML. Between the A/C repair bills, vet bills for the animals, the outrageous power bills, and buying groceries I am just sinking these days. It's going to be 112 tomorrow, it's 86 in my house right now. My weather report is showing temps over 105 until Saturday.

Our town hit 107 in Bay Area which is like unheard of - and most houses don’t have AC. We drove up the coast to escape heat and we’ve had a cool ocean breeze and it’s stayed in upper 60s.

I'm northeast of SF just before the Carquinez Bridge. It was 107 in my town today. It never gets that hot. It was 84 downstairs and probably 5-10 degrees warmer upstairs. And I don't have AC. It's cooling off somewhat at night to the mid 60s but even that is warm.

Man I feel for anyone without AC in this. I can’t imagine. I melt in heat. I hope ACs get fixed quickly or you have a place to cool off.
I just looked snd I hope it’s correct but the weather has changed for the better. Friday is in the 90’s instead of 100 so hoping this holds true snd it starts cooling down everywhere that it needs to. Hoping fires are under control soon without more loses.

The Hemet fire is over 2500 acres.
Big Bear fire is still going. Rate has slowed down at least. The ski resort near it has its sprinklers on to help keep the ground wet.
I can't see the Hemet fire but boy can I see the Big Bear fire.
Only supposed to be 98° Friday and 84° with rain Saturday. I also see the rain can come late Friday. Would be a big help if it does for these fires. As long as no lightning happens.

i think this heat wave is the worst i've felt in a few summers. i think the intensity and prolonged duration has been unusual.
lots of houses in my area don't have A/C because we are close enough to the beach to not really need it. we have A/C but we're trying to be mindful of the energy Flex Alert. we kept the AC between 79-81 this weekend. now that we're back to work today, we kept the air at 83 for the dogs because they spent almost all of their time inside the house. we have fans going for them too.

I don't have central air but I do have a window unit in my bedroom. We bought it several years ago for just in case but have only used it once until this week. A couple of days ago it was 105 in my living room, in the afternoon.
I have been holed up in my bedroom for three days and I hate, hate, hate to be closed up in the house. It is claustrophobic. My husband says the bedroom smells like a hotel room 😂 It is supposed to be 100+ on Friday. 🤮🤮🤮

i think this heat wave is the worst i've felt in a few summers. i think the intensity and prolonged duration has been unusual. With the exception of about 4 days, it's been over 90 in my area since August 1st. Making it worse is that it's not cooling down at night. If the power goes out, I am going to cry and lose my shit. My dog cannot handle the heat so I'm either headed somewhere there's a generator & AC or my car.

Would be a big help if it does for these fires. As long as no lightning happens. DD lives in South Lake Tahoe and during the Caldor fire last year, the ski resorts in the area turned on their snow making machines to wet the ground so embers wouldn't catch the grounds on fire. I am 50 miles north of San Francisco and it was 111 yesterday. We don't have central air, but we have a window unit in the bedroom and a portable unit in the living room. We have a small house with older electrical wiring so we only run one at a time. So far power has stayed on.

We have a little break down here. Temps are "only" in the low 90's along the coast. But night time is getting cooler!! YAY!! High 60's to low 70's, and a very very slight breeze. We don't turn on the A/C after around 9PM, and it was really comfortable last night. My neighbor, who claims they never use their A/C, has had their A/C going the past couple of days. I guess they reached their breaking point. But, next week, I see daytime highs in the 70's!! Hooray! Can't wait! Hang in there everyone! Stay cool and safe!

I can’t wait until it starts cooling down at night and I can open the house up again. We usually have a few days here and there that we can’t but this time. It’s been way too long. Leading to much more AC use. We usually open as soon as it’s about 74 but need it to get into the 60’s to really cool the house much as the air just stops moving at night.

A/C has been fixed. According to my porch thermometer it's 109 out right now and it'll get hotter than that. The poor A/C is trying really hard to maintain 81 in here but I'm not holding out much hope that it will be able to do it until the sun goes down. I am now at $800 in repair bills for it since July 15th. The unit is only 4 years old. I know this is just how modern appliances are but I am not impressed. If next summer is the same I might just say screw it and buy a couple of good sized swamp coolers and go that route. They're a lot cheaper to run and there's nothing to break.
