We got some drizzle this morning and mixed with the ash from the fires, my car is a mess. I was skeptical when they said it would be 100 in Los Angeles but they weren't kidding. It was 100 just about to the coast when I got home. And humid. So so humid. Just one more day they say.

Good lord it is a shvitz today. I just saw that storm on the radar. Yikes! It is HUGE. I didn't think we'd get much rain but it looks like a deluge is on the way.

The hot wind is whipping so wildly the rain isn't finding the ground. I went to pick up a trash can that had fallen over (trash pick up day!), I could feel big rain drops hitting me, but they weren't make much impact on the ground. It's so weird.

It has been drizzling/raining pretty much all morning, streets are totally wet. Breezy but not too windy yet. They say tonight is when it will really pour. But, it is still hot out there. Ugh!

Yeah, there's not really any sun in Orange County due to the cloud cover but damn it's still pretty warm and sticky. I read somewhere that we are expecting to get a years worth of rain in 2 days. Hopefully the fires go out but wow we may be in for some major flooding.
I saw this experiment on Good Morning America and it shows how water just does not soak into the dry ground after a heatwave and why the flooding happens. Makes total sense.

Yeah, the rain is good, but not if it all comes at once. This light rain we are having right now is good, gives the water a chance to soak into the ground. But, later on, it'll all just be runoff and floods. ETA - The guy on Weather Underground said the rains will not be enough to put out the fires.

I really do hope we get some good rain but not so much that I have to close the house up. I love it all open when it is raining.

They said the rains would be mostly east of the mountains. I hope the coast gets some of it. Right now it's just 90-100 degrees and muggy.

The wind started here about 11am and we have had some strong gusts. I took down my hanging drought tolerant plants and flowers and moved them to the front entrance patio to protect them from the wind. Wind is a out 13-18 mph with gusts.
The rain is supposed to start a little after 1pm.
The Big Bear fire is at 59% containment and holding at just a little over 1k acres. The weather and attack really helped.
The Hemet fire is just bad and a few accounts I followed are hopeful the rain helps the ground crews get a better containment on it.

Relentless wind & rain today. The wind woke us up around 3:30am, rain started around 9am. I’m in north SD county (inland).

I’m on the coast just north of SD. The wind has been minimal. At 7am it was 85 degrees. It’s now in the 70s and it’s been steadily raining for a few hours. I see some sunlight and break in clouds. I haven’t had to use my portable ac yet today which is a change from the last several days. It’s muggy but the temps are more tolerable today.

I went to pick up a trash can that had fallen over (trash pick up day!), I could feel big rain drops hitting me, but they weren't make much impact on the ground. It's so weird. We are having weird bands coming through, too. The backyard was relatively dry - just a few rain splotches on the patio and there was a torrential downpour out the front! The wind woke me just before 5 and we had some good gusts because a neighbor's palm fronds were already in the pool. I went to bed before DH and thought he forgot to open the windows, so opened the slider expecting slightly cooler air than inside and was hit by 88F plus humidity. Over an hour before sunrise! Things are cooler now but heavy humidity still. I'm hoping this lull in the storm lasts long enough for me to grill some chicken because I don't want to turn on the oven. It is so dark and gray, I can't wait to see the sun again.

We evacuated to San Diego but I’m following what’s going on. It’s really windy by the fire. Planes appear to be grounded. Some rain but not enough so far. I have seen pictures of downed trees in Temecula in the middle of the city. Looking at weather.com and it’s not showing much rain after today.

Our forecast today was 109. It's only 100 now due to the smoke from the Mosquito fire. While I hope they start making progress on that one I'll take the small relief that the smoke is providing me today.

Well when I picked up DS from school, it had cooled down to 77 and the rain felt cool. Mt San Gorgonio could get snow. I mean...this is definitely some weird earthquake weather.

This weather is so weird. We've had wind blowing hard all day and intermittent rain sprinkles.
I'm glad it's cooling down at least, but the wind is awful for the people fighting these fires.
We have a property in the Sage area (between Temecula and Hemet) and are pretty sure the home and barn are gone. We didn't have much in the house, but my heart breaks for our neighbors there and their animals.
The last time we were there, our neighbor on one side had 12 horses and lots of other animals. I hope she was able to get them all out.
CA is crazy right now.

I went outside as the hot winds really picked up. When I came back inside, we had a power outage that last for 2 1/2 hours. Thank goodness I found one of our small lithium battery powered fans. i had a wet face towel on me and the fan going until the power can back on. And then the drizzling started. What a heat wave this had been!

It really made my heart happy to see so many people volunteering. Sage is still under a mandatory evacuation but not in the burn zone that has been released so hoping your house snd neighbors are ok. They have reduced the red zone quite a bit this afternoon. We will be going home tomorrow:).

Bummed the rain has stopped. Looks like just clouds today with possible t-storms and rain tomorrow.
Going to keep an eye on that as the kids have the yearly pool party with a program they are in.

Great news for the Hemet fire: HEMET, Calif. (KABC) -- Rain generated by the remnants of Tropical Storm Kay helped fire crews slow the spread of the deadly Fairview Fire burning southeast of Hemet Friday, allowing authorities to reduce some evacuation orders from mandatory to voluntary and ground crews to reach 40% containment of the fire. abc7.com/hemet-fire-wildfie-fairview/12216566/Article has some areas for animals to stay.

It is blessedly cool this morning. This is the first break in the heat in a couple of weeks. It rained for most of last night but it was a gentle rain. I sat in my living room until late with all the doors and windows open, just enjoying it. Our power went out for about thirty minutes but didn't last long.
I haven't done a lick of housework in almost two weeks and believe me it looks like it around here. I am actually excited that it is cool enough to get my house clean today.
Sounds like the rain helped the Hemet fire. Yay!

Its hot and humid but I can’t remember the last time I was so glad to be home. Its going to take a while to put everything away as I was just grabbing stuff and tossing in bags when we left but I’m just happy everything is ok. And hoping nothing changes. Have to head to Riverside in a few hours for an MRI and was hoping to not have to reschedule and tomorrow we are getting our upstairs AC replaced. Tomorrow will be laundry day and putting stuff away unless I get to restless today.
