Buckle up, it’s going to get hot for the next week! I’m so over summer! It’s not even going to cool off at night.

We are moving DD to California in 10 days - I really really really really hope it has cooled off by then! I've lost count of how many heat waves there have been so far this summer.

It will be 106° to 110° in my area depending on the day with one or two t-storms this weekend I believe.
Ds is doing half days to keep him out of the heat and safe.

Totally normal here. Usually earlier in August but yeah, ever since I can remember we have had a week to 2 weeks of over 100° days. I remember I going up to 120° a handful of times. Thankfully not this time.

Ugh, I just got back from a glorious week up in the Mendocino woods. The temps were awesome, chilly at night and mid 70s during the day. A heat wave was definitely not on my list of things to come home to.

ugh I am dreading it.
My parents live on the coast so it doesn't get that hot, it'll get as high as the mid 80's, but their house isn't air conditioned so it can really warm up in the house. I've ordered some sun blocking curtains for their sunroom that gets full sun during the day. We've always just had pretty, light sheers just for looks but it's a whole new world.
I've also warned my dad not to go for his daily walk to Starbucks after 9:00 am because that sun will be brutal.
DD is in high school but thankfully classrooms are air conditioned and she doesn't have PE anymore so that's a good thing. I feel bad for the football players and band who still have to march and practice though.
older DD lives in Santa Clarita and it's going to be ridiculous there, like 110 one day I think. She has a toddler and he is not going to like getting stuck in the house to stay out of the heat.
Hope it comes and goes quickly and we don't get any fires.

And they said it will be slightly humid too so it will feel hotter. UGH!! Even in my coastal city, it will get to the upper 90’s this weekend. Stay safe and cool everyone!!
Today is supposed to be the “coolest”, so I am going to try to get a lot of errands done. I also washed clothes last night, not my usual night, so I don’t have to use more electricity than necessary for the weekend.

I hate the extreme heat! That is honestly one of the reasons I am moving out of California. The older I get, the less tolerance I have for hot days. At least I had my air conditioner looked at last week. It was causing a puddle of water to form at the base of the unit. My realtor's cousin is a licensed air conditioner repairman and he came and had a look to see what the issue was. Apparently the condensation is typically drained out through a pipe to the exterior of the home. Mine got a clog in it, which apparently isn't uncommon. Especially after all these years. All he had to do was hit the pipe with a blast from an air tank and it cleared it! So if you ever have that problem, you now know what fixes it.

On Sunday night I was looking over the weather forecast for the week to try to plan some activities and saw the heatwave warnings. I took my son to the zoo yesterday and I have a feeling we won’t be doing much of anything outside the rest of the week. Super thankful for our local library and the indoor soft play places that are nearby have cranked up the AC!

Washed several loads that normally would have been done later this week. Ones that only happen every few weeks. Doing my regular load today and will have one on Friday but may postpone that one to next week depending on weather.

I bought some nice lunch meat and ciabatta rolls at Trader Joe’s yesterday as well as salad fixings. I also have stuff for a charcuterie board. I have PT this morning and by the time I’m done it will be hotter than I like so may go out tomorrow early for a few things. Trying to come up with easy meals and things that don’t take a lot of electricity thinking there is a chance there will be outages. I really don’t do well with the heat and once I’m hot it takes me a while to recover. This is a really long heatwave. Usually it’s a few days then a break then another but this is a long one without relief even at night . I’m also concerned about fires.

The late summer/heat until Halloween was one thing I didn't like about living in Southern CA (40 years). My adult kids still live there so I'm hearing about how hot it is but am hoping our temps start to dip soon in Pittsburgh. I am not a warm weather girl at all!

We haven't needed AC in coastal San Diego, but our fans will be busy this week! I'm always amazed at how much different the inland valleys are than the coast. Stay safe everyone!

We are coastal San Diego too. When we moved here over 20 years ago, we maybe used our AC about 2 weeks out of the year. Now, we’ve been using it for months at a time. Only about half of the homes had AC, now, a lot of my neighbors have put them in. The years are just getting hotter.

It’s currently hot. 99 but feels like 107 holy moly. Thank goodness for AC. It’s only supposed to hit 98 today but it’s not even noon. It’s going to exceed that by several degrees easily.
Went to PT and I figured I would run to Aldi today and just get it over with and save a bit of gas. It didn’t feel as bad as I expected. The house downstairs isn’t hot but it’s muggy as it was so humid last night so it feels much warmer.

The first place we lived here didn't have AC and there were only a few days that I wished we did. When we bought, AC wasn't even on our "must" have list at all because we were looking in the coastal zone (5-10 miles further inland it would have been for sure). Now the AC chugs along for months every year. We've gone from maybe using it a few hours a day, to it clicking on mid-morning running until sunset. Thank goodness for solar panels.

I’m in la county. It’s going to be hot. Luckily - I’m in a beach city so it’s tolerable. There’s a nice breeze now. I can’t imagine living inland.
Isn’t this the first really hot weather of the summer?
Hopefully there won’t be fires!

I feel like in the Bay Area we’ve been super lucky with no heat waves yet this summer. The area has actually been blanketed in thick fog lately. I’m out of town but my husband was texting that a heatwave was coming. I always say our summer starts in august!
Little tip - no matter how incredibly hot the rest of the state gets - the Mendocino coast will be cool! We escape up there there when we can in the heat.

I grew up in the foothills above the San Joaquin Valley (there's a Pea who lives there now,) and it's typical for this time of year but no fun. We in the PNW will get hit with it too, apparently. Blarg.

All he had to do was hit the pipe with a blast from an air tank and it cleared it! So if you ever have that problem, you now know what fixes it. Yup, we get this in FL. It'll actually stop the a/c from working because it's all clogged up. DH used to know how to drain it out into a certain pan, but I have no clue. Right after DH passed last year, the a/c stopped working and I put in a work order. The guys have known us for 11 years, and he was SO sweet. He said, "Don't you try this. You can cut your fingers. Just call us if it gets clogged again. It's a messy job." Good 'nuf!
Humidity causes condensation and clogs up a lot down here. You just have to keep on top of it all. (I wouldn't miss the extreme heat/humidity either!!!!!).

I am in So Cal, close to the coast and I don't have air conditioning. If we were another mile or two inland we'd have to have it. I open every window and door in my house every morning winter or summer. We get a great breeze through the house. I get claustrophobic when the house is all closed up. I love having all of the windows open even when it rains. Dust is a fact of life. I mostly lose the dust battle.
In summer I have fans in every room. When it gets above 90 and hellish like it will this weekend I feel no obligation to do anything. I kind of look forward to a short heatwave as I can just sit in front of a fan with a glass of wine and read all the books that I want to, with no guilt.
My daughter lives a few blocks from me and she has air. If it gets too bad I can go crash at her house.

Blarg. Me? I’m in Calaveras county. Right now we are out on the lake enjoying it because the flat landers come up on the weekend and we aren’t about to hang out with that train wreck! It is always fun to hang out at the launch ramps in the early evening tho and people watch. I saw that we are supposed to hit 116. The 100’s start tomorrow. No soccer. We might be out on the lake again.
