The total devastation from this storm is incomprehensible. So much loss of life and property and destruction. It's beyond devastating. Please know that thoughts and prayers are with all those suffering.

Are you in all this? Sending prayers! My home is. I have family and friends in SE Texas that are. I am physically not in the path of the storm.

Thank you for sharing. I live in Houston and have territory in Sabine Pass, Port Arthur, Beaumont, Orange, Lake Charles, etc. Sabine Pass has a coast guard station, but it is small. I am worried for everyone out there as well.

Thank you for sharing. I live in Houston and have territory in Sabine Pass, Port Arthur, Beaumont, Orange, Lake Charles, etc. Sabine Pass has a coast guard station, but it is small. I am worried for everyone out there as well. I haven't heard anything about Sabine Pass, but the good thing about that area is that the flooding was because of rainfall and not a storm surge. As long as the water in the bay and the Gulf are at a lower level, it should drain without too much trouble. There is drainage happening throughout the area. It's just gonna take time. This is not the same situation that Houston is facing. The area directly north did NOT have the same rainfall all of these days and the dams upstream are not breaching. Water will not remain as long as it will in Houston. BUT... this storm has FAR exceeded what even the $70million upgrade just made to the drainage system of Jefferson County could handle and that's why there's so much flooding. Wait until you see the rate of rain and you'll understand. It was staggering.

Cajun Navy is in Orange and are launching boats off I10 and 73/62. Text info to (712) 204-9628.
Rain continues at the rate of 1-2"/hour for SE Texas.
Pine Island Bayou is cresting at just over 39 feet.

Boats are launching at Central Mall to rescue people in downtown Port Arthur. The wind is blowing. Hundreds of people are in need of rescue. Some houses are flooded with 5 feet + of water.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Interstate 10 Westbound at milepost 4 near the Texas state line is closed due to flooding. Motorists on the Texas side of the Sabine River who are unable to proceed west are being escorted the wrong way by Louisiana State Police back into Louisiana. Westbound traffic is being advised to travel north at I-49 in Lafayette and US 171 in Lake Charles. Travel into Southeast Texas is strongly discouraged at this time due to flooding.

Latest news - Displaced Port Arthur residents at the civic center are being taken to the Carl Parker Center At Lamar State College PA I read this here and in another thread and finally went to google because I couldn't figure out how they were getting stranded people to Oensyvania - I'm like, well if they can get to State College Pennsylvania ( which is a town up here ) that's close enough we can help. But how the heck are they getting here. So I finally googled and realized you meant Port Arthur and felt like an idiot. Many prayers and hugs to everyone down there my heart breaks, and I actually do comprehend what's happening although it seems unimaginable. Hugs Lefty.

A bunch of my classmates from high school want to State College in Pennsylvania. Sorry about the confusion, but I do appreciate the humor in it.

Through FB, I've seen different friends' statuses. Hang in there, NoWomanNoCry. There are people actively working hard to rescue people throughout the entire affected area. Try not to panic. I don't know how any of my family is doing at the moment either.

My heart aches for the people affected by this epic disaster. I have so many high school friends from NOLA and friends from LSU who live in the Houston area. DH's step-sister lives in Magnolia but I don't think that area has been affected as much. Just heartbreaking.

For some when your thousands of miles away and you can't actually DO anything, you've already donated money etc., it's overwhelmingly heart breaking and the trivial stuff is a defense mechanism. For others they are just in their own bubble and unaware.

For some when your thousands of miles away and you can't actually DO anything... Not directing this to you, hop2, but to people in general. A day without bashing Trump and calling many of these people racists and other horibble names who have been out all night and all day risking their lives to save others would be a good start.

NoWomanNoCry - I just heard from a cousin through FB who's doing good in Nederland. Someone in Lumberton has measured 48" total rainfall so far.
