I want to caution everyone to NOT take social media.... and I hate to say it, but even some national media... at face value.
There are a LOT of false assumptions being posted and repeated as facts.
For the national news, I'm going to guess that they are 2 days late and a dollar short in covering the real news of the day and are trying to make up for it.
The Mayor of Port Arthur? (I think that's who was being referred to. They're speaking faster than I can type) has reported the loss of 6 big vehicles including a firetruck.
FWIW, Pt. Arthur was ground zero for this flooding last night because newly strengthened Harvey just wouldn't move. The flooding is ALL from rain. None of it is from storm surge. There was NO storm surge.
Reporters (local) still haven't gotten further south into Pt. Arthur yet. There are a lot of very rural areas in the immediate surrounds that will take even longer to get to, as well as other more suburban communities. There's a similar story being played out all over SE Texas today, we just aren't seeing it yet.

The people of Texas have not left my prayers. I weep when I see photos, for both the devastation and the fortitude and fight of the citizens. I appreciate your updates, and I'm glad to hear you are safe.

Kirk Vital of Lakeside Park, a subdivision in Port Arthur heavily infested with large gators and water moccasins. He says the lake has come into their streets.

NoWomanNoCry - I just heard from a cousin through FB who's doing good in Nederland. Someone in Lumberton has measured 48" total rainfall so far. That's great! Did you hear about the two men that died last night near Jasper? So sad... Just found out a friend of mine is currently on their roof with her two kids waiting to be rescued...they said it could be hours.

Lumberton water has had no problems and is safe to drink.
There are no reports to KFDM that there is a problem or a BOIL WATER notice anywhere.

This whole thing is out of a horror movie. I laid in bed last night trying to imagine myself and our home being there and the fright and despair I would feel. These poor, poor people. I have been overwhelmed with the stories of human goodness throughout.

Pt Arthur police are welcoming volunteers with boats to help rescue. Meet at Walmart on Memorial in Port Arthur.
There were 2 people in the trees on Pine Island Bayou. They were there since 4AM when their car was swept away. Rescued after 5 hours by a news crew who waded out to check the Bayou, heard them screaming and got them help from a boat that just happened to be nearby. The boat couldn't get close enough because of the current, so they through a rope and the first man pulled the boat into the tree so he could get on.
The second man grabbed the rope and was swept around a tree and nearly lost, but he caught onto another tree and was able to be rescued.
The current is moving that fast.

The closed I10 westbound lane is flooded a good 3feet for a good quarter mile and looks like a canal. I just watched two trucks drive through it from reporters standing on the other side of a concrete barrier in the westbound lane.
What a strange sight!

Yeah, I did. Where's your friend? Has she called 911? A Blackhawk helicopter is trying to make rescues in Port Arthur. She's in Vidor and she did call into different places for rescue..they said it would be hours because of the amount of people. The raindrops are very small now, so the rain is much lighter. If she has anything to wave, especially something white, that will help people see her. If you are in touch with her, tell her she just needs to stay calm. FWIW, KFDM just said that Vidor looks like a lake, so she isn't alone up there.

Phone lines are down in Annahuac and in Chambers County seat.
I10 & 69/96 are flooded, so SE Texas remains cut off from a great deal of outside help.

I posted my friends info on a FB group for rescues so hopefully someone there can help.

IF you need to be rescued in SE Texas, STAND OUTSIDE and have something (preferably white) to wave so you can be seen.
