I can’t stop chuckling over you referring to Canada as a foreign country.

Well, we were supposed to be, but it’s just impossible. I broke the news to my parents that we’re not going to make it, and we picked up the dog from the kennel. I’m never going to try to fly at Christmas again. I'm so sorry, it's so disappointing for everyone. Hugs to all who have had their plans upended. We travelled at Christmas for years and after one year of very bad weather and dh being too ill to travel home we decided that was the last time. After that we travelled at Easter time, better weather, longer school holidays, tourist places were actually open, just a nicer experience all round. I hope you have a nice Christmas despite the change in plans. Thanks! We will have a cozy, quiet Christmas at home. I told my mom we would focus on coming down in February instead. Everyone is just kind of rolling with it. I’m happy to be home by the fire instead of stranded in Vancouver!

We are supposed to fly thru YVR tomorrow on our way to the desert. Fingers crossed 🤞 I’m trying to be zen about it without much success. I just saw a Tik Tok of YVR...hope you are not flying WestJet. Our flight out of YVR was cancelled (no surprise) so looks like we won’t be having a sunny California Christmas after all.

Ha! I just got it too. I thought I had a cold or a mild flu, tested and was negative. The next night I lost my sense of smell literally in an instant and I tested again and it was positive. I feel pretty good, it’s just lingering in my sinuses now.

Ugh. I must have been 14. It was on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean. And it was so fucking slobbery, with so much tongue. It was unbearably bad. The guy was very WASPy, and ultra douchey.

If your kid is having general anesthesia there is a good chance he will be barfing when he comes home…ask me how I know..he will be needing attention to get settled in bed/on the sofa, get crackers and ginger ale, all that stuff. I’d skip the meeting for sure. No guilt.

I wanted it to say “divide 50 in half,” which would be 25. But it doesn’t say that so it that an error or should it actually be 50 decided by 1/2? Yup. Divide IN half and divide BY half are two very different things! It’s worded very poorly. I would just state my assumption before solving.

Ok. I have a lab and she loves winter. Where we live, it can get very very cold. We have snow and ice for 5 months of the year 😭😭😭 In super cold weather she wears a coat, which she doesn’t love but tolerates. For the first time, I’m going to order her some boots. I think I’ll get Muttluks. They are fleece lined with a flexible leather sole (they have other options as well). They’re highly rated and apparently they stay on pretty well. I’m 100% sure Harper will hate them. Labs are prone to allergies, which can cause skin irritation between their toes, and Harper is no exception so I feel we need to protect her feet although when we are walking she rarely shows signs of having cold feet.
As for balm, I’m no help as we have never used it. I don’t need greasy paw prints all over my floors. If we walked somewhere heavily salted or sanded, I’d wipe her feet with a warm cloth when we came in, and leave it at that. I do see several different kinds of balm at the pet store but I’m not sure which is best.

My favourites are DS and Durga “Concrete After Lightning” and Voluspa “Makassar Ebony and Peach” but I don’t burn many scented candles anymore. I feel like they’re overwhelming and not great for my dog.

We've enjoyed a few of the Palm Springs Historical Society walking tours. Inns, Architecture and Glamour or Celebrity Haven We went back to eat at a couple of the boutique hotels. IIRC, lunch pool side at La Serena Villas (Azucar?) was really nice. I also really like Jake's and dream about their watermelon gazpacho every now and then. Norma's at the Parker is also good and it is a fun property to poke around. Sparrows Lodge is another property to check out. We've never been able to get dinner reservation but dropped in for a late lunch after picking up friends at the airport. Really lovely spot. At the other end of the valley, Lavender Bistro in La Quinta is a favorite and the The Pink Cabana in Indian Wells. The Palm Springs Art Museum is excellent. Another recommendation for the Lavender Bistro. Dine outside if possible. The patio is lovely. If you are able, get tickets to tour the Annenberg Estate in Rancho Mirage. Even if you can’t get tickets to tour inside, you can still check out the beautiful grounds and the visitors centre. They host outdoor events like yoga classes and symphony in the gardens.

It looks like it still needs a couple more months of ripening before you eat it. Overripe bananas DO have the most flavour 🤪🤪🤪

Gucci makes gorgeous blushes. Rare Beauty’s are also very nice and highly pigmented but are liquids. My current fave blush is Merit, but it’s a cream, not a powder. I second the Gucci blushes. They are very pigmented and the packaging is beautiful too.

birukitty thank you! He's a Somali (ruddy color). He's the only purebred cat I've ever owned. My husband had to fly to NY and back to get him. 🥰 belgravia well, he IS a cat, lol! He's actually the sweetest cat I've ever owned, which was an unexpected bonus. He’s really adorable! Love his big green eyes.

My handsome candle making assistant a few days ago. Excuse the mess, candle pouring can be messy! I'm just in the experiment phase right now. Now that is a handsome, very striking cat! I love his coloring, such a vivid orange and his beautiful green eyes. He's making sure you don't miss a step. He looks a bit bossy 🤣

Apparently we are the only people on the planet that eat at actual dinner time lol. We usually get together around 5:30 but don’t eat until about 7:30pm. We also dress up a bit. I was wondering about this. Is it an American thing to eat thanksgiving dinner so early? I can’t imagine eating a big dinner at noon or mid afternoon.

We put our daughter on our Visa as an authorized user, and then when she turned 18 she got a student Visa with a low limit.

I have to admit I don’t really get the vitriol towards Meghan and Harry (not just here…they seem pretty universally despised). I’m sure I’ll read the book…$47 on Amazon.ca for the hardcover! Having said that, I kinda feel badly for him. He has made some crappy choices, but who hasn’t. I’d imagine living your life publicly while always being referred to as “the spare” would fuck you up a bit. He hasn't been referred to that his whole life. When he was born someone (and it might have even been Diana said she produced an heir and a spare) but apart from that he hasn't regularly been referred to in that way. "Third" would have been more accurate as for most of his life he was third in line (to the throne) to William's second, and that seems to be what he's really bitter about. And I don't get why he's so bent out of shape about it anyway, he's just one in long line of "spares"...because that's exactly what the line of succession is, why is he acting as if he's the only one? William could just as easily have taken a petty lifelong offence to that line because it was basically saying that if he dies it's no big deal because Harry is there to replace him...but he didn't. Unlike Harry who will obviously never get over being jealous of his brother. I don’t know, I’ve always heard Harry referred to as the spare…but he’s certainly not the first royal to have that unfortunate nickname. I’m not a devotee of the monarchy but I am kinda interested to read his book.

Welcome in and verse would drive me absolutely nuts, but luckily I haven’t heard either of those. Now, dropping the t sound in the middle of words? That’s how EVERYTHING in Utah is pronounced! For example, I don’t live in the mountains, it’s the moun’uns. This drives me absolutely insane.

Looks like I'm one of the odd ones here... I usually always put on my top first. The main reason is because I'm usually cold when I get out of the shower (I don't get dressed in the bathroom, just walk back to the bedroom in my robe). Plus, my hair is long enough that it touches my neck and back and that makes me even colder. So the shirt goes on first to warm me up. Yes, this! I’m generally freezing so I put my shirt on asap.

I always, always have music on. Just instrumental jazz, no lyrics. I can’t stand radio or tv in the background, anything with voices makes me crazy, but I do need music. Music goes on first thing in the morning, even before I’ve had coffee!
