It’s standard practice in the financial industry to be supervised while you gather your things and then you are escorted from the building. Doesn’t matter if you are fired or quit and leave on good terms. As soon as you give your notice you are gone.

My husband just ordered a TV for our bedroom. We are just finishing up renovating and I’ve wanted a TV in there for a while.

Our daughter is 16, a new driver (since February) and we just got her a car, which we paid for. We also pay for insurance, gas, phone etc. Well, ok, we pay for everything We are fortunate in that in our province we have graduated licensing, and as a new driver she is not permitted to drive between midnight and 5 am, so she has a built in curfew. Also, there is zero tolerance of alcohol consumption, she would lose her license if she was stopped and had a blood alcohol level above zero. We are pretty relaxed in terms of what she’s permitted to do, but she knows that as a new driver she has to text us when she gets where she’s going, and text when she’s leaving to come home. Also, she texts if plans change. She needs to keep us in the loop. So far, she’s been really good about observing the rules. If things start to go sideways, she knows her new car will be parked. We are lucky, she has always been a good kid and has attended a small private school since kindergarten so we have known all her friends for ages.

I’m lucky enough to have a huge laundry room with space for two big drying racks because I hardly put anything in the dryer. If something comes out of the washer wrinkled, it might go in the dryer for 2 minutes and then it gets hung up to dry. I think clothes last a lot longer and look better if they don’t go in the dryer.

The three of us plus our dog are in 4100 square feet. It feels like the right size for us, but it is a LOT to look after. I’m a SAHM and my husband travels a ton for work so the housework falls to me. I definitely feel like I can’t keep up a lot of the time. The yard is big and high maintenance as well. I fantasize about moving to a downtown loft that’s about 1200 square feet! Maybe one day

Mine are mostly in their dust bags and lined up on shelves in my closet. A few are in their dust bags and then in their original boxes. Most are stuffed with pillow inserts (you can get super cheap ones at ikea) to help them keep their shape.

I have a bad feeling that you have a lot of red wine vinegar. Wine should always be stored on its side, preferably in a cool, dark place. Like a wine cellar

I’m feeling the travel bug big time right now. I’m Canadian, also spend a fair amount of time in the US. Outside of North America I have travelled to England, Ireland, France, Greece, Italy, Egypt, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Mexico.
I may go to Boston this September for a couple days, I’ve never been and my husband has a business trip so I may tag along. May also go to NYC for a long weekend in October. My friend is traveling in Ireland right now and her pics are making me want to go back so badly!

I just bought a new perfume at Louis Vuitton the other day. It’s called Afternoon Swim, it’s citrusy and summery and gorgeous! I also love Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt for summer, and maison Margiela Under the Lemon Trees. For fall and winter I tend towards heavier fragrances.

Anyone tempted to install laminate, wood look tile or luxury vinyl plank should read this thread. I guess those products have their place, and I know people love them, but look at the life being brought back into this real wood floor that has been used and abused over the years!! I look at the pictures and I’m so impressed.

Omg that floor looks so good after you’ve sanded it. I would be tempted to just clear coat it with water based poly. And then find some gorgeous vintage area rugs, perfectly worn. It’ll look great!

Sure..here are a few of our favorites: Rubirosa Pasquale Jones Al Pastor Legacy Records Blue Ribbon Brasserie Momofuku The Dutch Union Square Cafe Babbo Gramercy Tavern(crazy expensive but one of the best meals of my life) These are off the top of my head from recent visits. So many great places to go there obviously. Have fun!! I second Rubirosa and Gramercy Tavern. Our faves include Mercer Kitchen (truffle pizza!!!), Balthazar (brunch) and if you want a spectacular Michelin starred dining experience, Daniel never disappoints.

Line up early in the morning at Dominique Ansel in SOHO for a cronut. Soooooo good! We had to order our cronuts a month in advance in 2016, not sure if that has changed. We were there on a Saturday in Sept and took the train to a Brooklyn flea market and had a wonderful time. We then took the train onto Coney Island. The ride back into the city was a bit long, but it was great. We love wandering Greenwich Village and hope to catch an off Broadway show the next time we go. Have a great trip. We were there at Christmas and just went early and lined up. You can preorder as well but it’s not necessary.

My daughter will graduate from high school in a years time. I’ve been thinking about this. She will need a new laptop but her education fund will pay for that. She will go on a grade 12 class trip that we will pay for. I’m thinking a nice piece of jewelry would be appropriate. I know she’s dying for a Cartier love bracelet.

- Something in the Water by Catherine Steadman: I really got into this one. Suspenseful and intriguing! Would definitely read more by this author.
Thanks so much for this rec. Just bought it for my trip next week! I listened to this while walking my dog and I thought it was really good! My dog got some very long walks because I wanted to keep listening

This thread reminds me of the time the husband of a friend of a friend (admittedly, he is a busy physician) had to drop something off at school for his daughter. He walked into the office to drop the item with the receptionist, who had to inform him that his daughter no longer attended that school!!

I just finished “Something in the Water” by Catherine Steadman and I really enjoyed it. It’s long, like 11 hours or something, and I listened to it while I walked my dog. It was an easy listen, not very demanding, and I really just wanted to sit down and listen to the whole damn thing. It hooked me right away. Another plus, the narrator (who I think is the author) has a very posh accent that’s lovely to listen to.

Omg I’ve had so many unicorns. I looked for a round walnut pedestal dining room table to seat six for years. Finally found one a year ago! Then it took a year to find chairs. I looked for an area rug for the living room forever. Then one day I had 10 minutes to spare and walked through Homesense and found the perfect wool 8x10 rug for $400! Current unicorn is walnut bookshelves with some closed storage for the dining room. I usually find the perfect thing when I’m not really looking.
