One of my employees is leaving to move to Jacksonville, FL. His wife got a great promotion they just can't turn down. Happy for her, sorry to see him go. Anyway, they don't know anyone in the Jacksonville area and are in the dark as to where to start looking for housing. They are going to rent for a year until they figure out a place to buy a home. They've been told Orange Park is good but it's across the river from her office and apparently the traffic is horrendous. They've looked online for rentals but renting near her office is out of their price range (upwards of $1800+ per month) Her office is on the northeast side of the city. They know they are probably going to have to commute and schools are not an issue since their kids are grown and out of the house. Does anyone have any recommendations of decent areas in or around the Jacksonville area? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Plan on arriving early! They are expecting record crowds and every seat and parking space is sold out. They will be scanning every ticket and searching every bag so it will take a while to get through the gates. Take sunscreen and lots of water and wear comfortable shoes. It's hot in the stands and the temps and humidity are going to be up there on Sunday.
Enjoy! I won't be there by my hubby will. I'll be home watching it on TV. The first time it hasn't been blacked out in years! Doubleheader day for me with Indy Car and then NASCAR on later in the day. Woo Hoo!

It's finally warmed up here and no rain so we're grilling! Yea! Steak with some bell peppers. I'll saute some asparagus to go with it, too.

I started having hot flashes about the same age as you are now (I'm 53 now) and were mostly at night. I tried to fight it for a couple of years but things got progressively worse. I wasn't sleeping well, had brain fog and could turn into a witch at the drop of a hat. It was really starting to interfere with work and the family. My doctor suggested Black Cohash but that didn't seem to help me so I finally asked him about HRT. Luckily, I am at low risk for the side effects. HRT has been a godsend for me. My doctor says I can stay on it for another couple of years and then I'll have to come off. I am hoping the worst has passed by that time.

Chocolate and margaritas . . . it's been that kind of day so for far.
Really, it'll be leftovers. I have a meeting shortly after work and have to pick someone up and won't have time to cook.

I am so sorry that happened. The local news did a story on this scam about a year ago. A couple of elderly people were scammed out of thousands. I need to make a point to talk to my parents about this. I'd like to think they'd be smart enough to hang up but I can't be sure since they have grandkids that live out of state.

Thanks for the information ladies. I don't think we ever did receive a release from our last mortgage servicer. I'll double check that and call if we don't have one. No, I haven't seen the title report. I'm meeting with the loan officer tomorrow morning and will ask for a copy. I appreciate the offer of help.

DH and I paid off our mortgage about three years ago. In the 25+years we had a mortgage it change hands probably a dozen times. Never had any issues with any of the mortgage holders. This summer DH wants to build a detached garage for his classic car. The car is currently housed in the garage at our office and we really could use the space so it needs to be moved. I didn't really want to build the new garage but DH loves that car, works on it frequently and takes good care of it. It's his only hobby and he works hard and deserves a dedicated place for all his tools and other car stuff that's close to home. We also need a new roof (insurance company is insisting we get a new one). So about a month ago we head down to our bank and apply for a home equity line of credit. Loan officer says credit is great, appraisal comes back with good numbers, all looks good. Then last week the loan officer calls and says there is a problem with the title on the house. Apparently two of the former mortgage holders didn't file the proper paperwork to say we were no longer obligated to them after they sold our account to the next company. One is from 1990 and the other from 2002. She's tried to get a hold of them but of course they've been consolidated with other banks, some several times over, so finding our account has been very difficult. So I dig out our old paperwork and give her some more information about them. She calls today and is at a dead end. Our only recourse at this time is to file a bunch of paperwork with Sallie Mae and wait two or so months to get it fixed (the original loan was an FHA). DH is pissed, he really wanted to have the car moved by the end of the summer. He's walking around saying we need to sue someone (and who would that be, honey? ?). The roofers want to start tomorrow. We've had so much rain and it's going to rain again by the end of the week and they want to squeeze us in before then. How in the world do you find information on a mortgage account from that long ago?? I'm sure the loan officer is doing the best she can. She's been very upfront and helpful and I can tell she's just as frustrated as I am. ARGH!!! This is just a vent but if anyone has any ideas on how to take care of this, I'd be grateful for any suggestions. We are going to get a signature loan for the roof. I don't want to cancel because it will be a while before they will be able to get back to us.

DD#2 is upset with me. Very long story but DD and her DH just moved back to town after getting out of the army. They seem to expect the rest of the family to babysit, feed them meals and buy them stuff when we go to the store. Most of us don't mind doing stuff but would like to be asked first if it is convenient. And it's getting to the point they are taking advantage of a couple of grandparents. So I had a chat with her and set some ground rules and now she is unhappy with me. Well, too bad. I'm not going to let her take advantage of me or elderly grandparents (who just can't say no to their granddaughter). You need to stand on your own two feet, sweetheart. Love you but that's the way it's gonna be.

We've had a couple of cats that are serious hunters. Ricky (the one in my avatar) loves to prowl around our wood pile. He's brought us several mice and a couple of moles. He eyeballs the squirrels but hasn't attempted to catch one that I know of.
One cat we had many years ago brought a Luna Moth into the house one time. That caused quite a commotion with the other cats in the middle of the night. It took a few minutes to figure out what was going on once DH and I woke up. We thought they'd all gone nuts until we spotted the moth. It was huge! DH got it back outside but Sadie (who caught it) was not happy with us releasing his play toy back into the wild.

It's girls night out for me. But restaurant we are meeting at has discontinued my favorite drink (it was seasonal). Now I guess I'll just have to settle for a plain old margarita.

This is an awesome idea! One of the charities that is being supported by the fundraiser is the local humane society. Then Pound Puppies would be perfect! I really like this Plush Dog House w/5 puppies! Another awesome idea. Thanks!

Is it supposed to be something that gets auctioned off? Like something someone would want? It's suppose to be but I suppose it could be a gag gift, too.

I'm going to a fundraiser in a couple of weeks and it's a Pound Auction. You bring a pound (or close to) of something. A pound of cookies, M&M's, cheese, whatever. I'd like to come up with something that isn't food related because I'm sure there will be lots of that, but I'm kind of stumped. I know the Refupeas are very creative so some ideas would be welcome. So what would you take?

To DD #2 and SIL - Get your act together, already! How can any two people manage to make so many bad decisions in such a short period of time? And to the same SIL: Take the job you were offered! You have no income right now and are screwing around waiting on a desk job or "something easy". Really?!?!?! I know the Army was hard but there are very few easy jobs out here in the civilian world either.

Reason #501 I don't like my parents, they have a business and that's what they would do all the time! My dad one day phones me up to say "you should hear what your mother did..." I just cringed. I know some people may deserve it because they were an a##hole but to me that's bad karma and I would feel it would come back to me. It's a quote and not an actual work order. Sometimes you want to quote high just so you don't have work with certain people. Yep! We've given "we don't really want this job" quotes before. Sometimes the money isn't worth the hassle.

Mine is apparently incapable of hanging up his coat when he gets home. He throws it on a chair that is literally, LITERALLY, three steps away from the coat closet. Does it every time. Just hang the darn thing up already!

I work in the security industry and I don't find this unusual at all. As already pointed out, storage can be the most costly part of any camera system. We have some customers that are required to store up to two years worth of video and that ain't cheap. Also, cameras bought off the shelf are meant for personal home use, not for use in a environment like a jail. They probably require special housings to prevent tampering and damage, none of which those inexpensive cameras can provide. There are hundreds of variables that may well put that camera system upwards of $20M. How many cameras? What type? Are they replace analog cameras with IP cameras, what kind of NVR (a specialty one would be my guess, the last one we sold was $12K our cost), storage, training, etc. There are many questions that are not answered in that article as to why that price is so high. While I'm not saying that there might not be some padding in that quote, it also might be spot on.

I'm reading The October Horse. It's a novel about Caesar. It's a challenge because of the names of people, nations that have changed, and references. But very interesting. I can read about 25 pages and call it good. Any one want to share a difficult read they completed or are currently reading ? This is part of a series about Caesar and is excellent. I've actually read the series a couple of times through.

Six indoor:
Lucky (DH says his first name is D@mn because he was d@mn lucky DH stopped in the middle of a busy road to rescue him) aka Crinkle Ear Kitty Bob (Female, long story) aka Miss Priss Oliver aka Bully Cat Belle aka B!itch Kitty Jack the Black Cat (the most easy-going, laid back cat we have every had) Ricky aka "Your Kitten" (meaning my kitten has been bad)
Then we take care of a feral colony (all fixed):
Pudgy Felix Oscar Carl Spot
We use to have a larger feral colony but we usually lose one every year. Luckily we aren't gaining any anymore.

Dear DH (or not so DH this morning) - I can't believe you had the nerve to say something to me about accidentally forgetting to turn off the bathroom light before we left for work this morning. I got up at 5:00 a.m., fed the cats, did a load of laundry, prepped dinner and got it into the crockpot, worked out, showered and got dressed. You slept for another hour and a half, got up, had a bowl of cereal, went back to to bed for another 1/2 hour and then managed to make your way to the shower. I made the bed after you finally got up, picked up the bedroom, washed the cat bowls and was ready to walk out the door (on time, mind you). And then you say something about the light in a snarky tone. Really?!? I do all that other stuff and you can't manage to flip off a light switch? We'll be having a chat about this tonight.

We always gave our UPS driver Subway cards at Christmas. When he retired we gave him a very nice Amazon gift card. We figured he deserved to have something delivered to himself for a change. We use to do the same for our mail person but now they change about every six months so we don't do anything for them any more. They usually aren't on our route long enough to get to know.

Home working on purging. I'm in a cleaning and purging mood and am itching to get to the spare bedroom. I'm afraid that by the time I can get to it I won't be in the mood anymore.
But it looks like it will be a quiet day at work so I should be able work on some projects that were pushed aside when we were super busy.

I wear almost everything on these lists that many of you don't wear. I wear dresses, hose, high heels and animal prints. And even though I don't need to dress up for work I still do. I just like it. I have an Audrey Hepburn quote that says something about believing in manicures, overdressing, primping, being strong and happy. It reminds me that I can be a girly-girl and a strong woman at the same time. This is so me. I work in a small office in a very small town. I wear dresses, skirts, blazers, high heels with hose. Being dressed up makes me feel professional. Woo hoo! There's at least one other person out there like me! I work in a small office, too, and like to look nice when customers come in.
