I probably see the highlights on the news tonight. That is probably all I could take anyway. I am not sure I could watch it live.

I hate that! My Grandma did the same darn thing. My mom and I have tried on so many occasions to recreate my dad's favorite cake, and the cake has not turned out once. It always ends up flat and tasteless. We are both good cooks, so we just assume Grandma left something out of her written recipe, and we finally gave up on it. She also used to make this really delicious poppy seed dressing. I have her recipe, I have tried it, and it tastes nothing like her dressing tasted.
She always said she liked having "secret recipes." We thought it was funny at the time, but now that she is dead and no one can recreate her classics (and our favorites!) it kind of sucks.
Yep! My grandmother was the same way. Nothing was written down and there are several recipes that my mom has spent years trying recreate with no luck. It's kinda sad.

Hands down, shoes. I love them. I have close to a hundred pair. And yes, I do wear most of them fairly frequently through out the year. The exception is a couple of pair of really dressy shoes reserved for weddings or really formal events.
DH and I are going to Vegas in the fall. I love shoe shopping in Vegas. They have styles I would never find here in Indiana. I already have my shopping budget set and expect to bring home three or four new pair. Can't wait!

Sitting here waiting for our fireworks to start. I think the whole town is out here. There's hardly any place left to park. Probably because the weather is really nice tonight.

I would not be happy about that. But then, I've had people mistake me for my grandkids mother, not their grandmother. I don't mind my age, I just don't want to look my age.

I have one but I can't tell you what brand. We got it at Bed Bath & Beyond. I like it but only use it occasionally because it is a pain to get out and put away. I probably need to store it somewhere else so I would use it more often.

. . . I am turning into my grandmother. I realized this as I walked out of the bathroom after my shower this morning with no less than three hair products in my hair and two different lotions on. All before I got dressed, did my hair and put on my makeup. If I count the hair gel and hair spray I used when I did my hair, I now have five products on it. My favorite grandmother was a classy woman. Think Grace Kelly or Jackie Kennedy type class. She never went out without makeup, nice clothing and nails done. I remember sitting and watching her get ready to go out. It usually took her at least two hours to get ready for whatever event her and Grandpa were attending. She always had all sorts of lotions, perfumes, and such all over her dressing table. Sweats? Never! Go out without makeup? Never! She colored her hair (a very light tint, not some really dark color) until the day she died. That was Grandma. My mom is very easy going. She rarely does makeup anymore, doesn't color her hair, dresses nicely when she must but otherwise is always in comfortable clothes. Apparently I am high maintenance just like Grandma. I would love to be just like her. She was an awesome lady. Guess I need to own it. Anyone else turning into someone besides their mother as they age?

I work with my MIL. Love her to death but she drives me crazy because she does sloppy work. She's been here three years and she still screws up the simplest tasks. When I gently point it out she always says she double checks her work (yea, right) or that "it's so confusing". Really? Everyone else gets it but you.
I think her strength lies in other places and it's not in this office. (Why she is here is a long story that probably needs its own thread).
Some days I think she could do a better job and she just does not care. But after three years I am beginning to think she just is incapably of understanding our processes. If she weren't my MIL I would have let her go long ago.

I've never posted on a mega thread and thought I'd take a chance and say that I'm staying here until our admin says we need to move. My first thought when I saw twopeaspail's post was that I didn't want to move again. Luckily I read a bit further before going to the other site. And, I'd also like to say that I am willing to take the word of some of the longtime peas that our admin is a longtime pea. That's good enough for me.

Generally once I get started I am fine. But I understand that it's hard to get going. I find I have to have a goal. It doesn't have to be a big one, just something. I've been wanting to start cleaning out our house. We have way too much stuff. At the beginning of June I set a goal of cleaning out all the closets in a weekend. Yea, that didn't happen. Too big a goal and too overwhelming. Plus I had other stuff I had to do.
So then I set a more reasonable goal. Clean out one thing (shelf, drawer, basket, whatever) once a week. Usually once I cleaned out one thing I would move to something else. One week we were gone but I was still able to meet my original goal of one thing. Last weekend it rained so I ended up doing two closets and a dresser.
It's tough trying to figure out what will get you going. You may have to try different things. Try breaking up your list so that it doesn't look so long.
Teaching is hard. I don't blame you for taking some down time. Sometimes you need that in order to do better things later.

We have a multi-cat household, all rescues. One of my cats is a big bully and one is a Queen B****h. The others are pretty easy going. We've worked with both the troublemakers for several years and have managed to keep the drama limited and the house in one piece. After a conversation with my vet a few months ago, he recommended Feliway for Cats (a pheromone). I was skeptical but tried it. It worked great on my bully cat. He has calmed down a lot and isn't nearly aggressive as he use to be. It worked so-so on Queen B but she is better than she was.
So I love this stuff but it is freakin' expensive! The liquid has to be replace about every 30 days and we have two diffusers in the house. And you are suppose to replace the diffusers every six months. Even with my Amazon Prime account the cost is adding up.
So, has anyone tried anything else that works like Feliway but doesn't cost as much? I'll keep buying the Feliway if I can't find anything else, it is worth it. But I cringe everytime I place an order at Amazon.

First I emailed the admin at two peas asking if they would reopen the forums so we could make arrangements to move somewhere else. I got a reply that they would not be reopening the forums but pea mail was still working.
Then I pea mailed a couple of peas and 2peasfaithful kindly gave me the link. She made my day!

I tried a baked zucchini chip recipe (like potato chips) this weekend. It looked great but was a total bust. They came out soggy and I ended up tossing the whole thing. I love the idea of something crunchy that is good for me. Anyone have such a recipe? I am thinking I will need to deep fry them to get them to come out okay but that kinda defeats the purpose.

DD #1 told me about a recent phone call with one of her cousins. I thought this was funny and wanted to share. Quick background: My brother's kids are 13+ years younger than my girls. Needless to say the cousins are not close. My girls are grown with their own kids and Niece and Nephew are in college. We don't see them very often even though we live in the same area, usually at Christmas. When Nephew was born my brother and SIL asked the family to call him by his full given name, "Christopher". I know that makes them sound somewhat controlling but they are really good parents and have raised two responsible young adults. These are my girls only cousins on my side of the family. On my Ex-H's side of the family my girls probably have 20+ cousins, many close to their age. They get together for anything and everything. So DD #1 gets a phone call while at a ball game for DGD. She doesn't recognize the number but answers it because she is expecting a phone call from her insurance company. The conversation went something like this: DD: Hello? Nephew: Hi, Betsy, it's Chris. DD: Chris? Chris, who? Nephew: Your cousin Chris. DD: (thinking, I don't have a cousin Chris, I have a cousin Christy [other side of family]) Ummm . . . Nephew: You know, CHRIS! DD: (totally confused) Umm . . . Nephew: Anyway I'm staying at Grandma and Grandpa's to feed the animals while they are on vacation. Do you have the password for the internet access? DD: Oh, this is Christopher! Nephew: Yes! Chris! DD was highly embarrassed she didn't put Chris and Christopher together. But as she pointed out, we have never referred to him as Chris, only Christopher. She figured it out when he said he was staying at my parents. She knew that because she was the back up in case he needed help. FTR, Nephew called my parents first for the internet password. They, being technologically challenged, could not remember it and ask Nephew to call DD because she knows it. So the moral of the story is that if you are going to insist that family call your kids by their full, given name, be prepared for some confusion when said child decides to shorten or change it. I'm still laughing about it. Gonna call my brother tonight and razz him about it. Anyone else have a story like that? Please share.

I work in DH's family business. His parents owned it but they've retired and we run it now. I do all the accounting, HR, and sales management. I'd really like to go back to school and get my degree but I can't right now. I am fortunate to have this job because I probably couldn't do any of the things I do now without a degree.

Well I was a member of Two Peas since 2003 and it would be difficult to think of us as anything else. Funny story: At lunch I was excitedly telling DH I had found the new board. Teasingly he said that since Two Peas was shut down we needed a new name and started asking what we would be called? Carrots? Asparagus? Potatoes? Yea, he thinks he's funny. Whatever!

I hope it stays around, I paid $3 for the mobile app! Seriously, I almost cried when I got the notice yesterday. NSBR board was a very special place for me even though I didn't post much, I read it everyday, most times multiple times a day. I can't tell you how many times I would start out telling my husband "today on the message board ..." You and I must be twins. This is exactly how I felt and I do the same thing with my DH.
