I'm originally from Michigan and that was something we heard every year during Michigan week in school. There used to be a show called How the States Got Their Shape. It was on Discovery or the History channel(?). I watched a few episodes and it was really interesting.

I made one of those "comments you shouldn't make" to someone who had just had a miscarriage. I later apologized but I still feel badly about it.

Bought a color laser printer and a portable external hard drive for the office, both 50% off. We desperately needed to replace our color printer. Bought myself a case for my new laptop. Very cute! Got it for 40% off. I'm quite happy with my purchases.

I volunteer for an not-for-profit and have been the treasurer for the last two years. I worked with our accountant to modernize all of our processes, make better use of our software program, digitize all our reports and paperwork, etc. It was a lot of work and it was all done after hours and on weekends. Someone else is taking over the position at the end of this week. I was talking with the accountant yesterday and he complimented me on my hard work and about how all the updates will make his and other jobs so much easier. Made me feel good because I think he is practically the only person who realizes how much effort was put into getting this organization up to date. Seriously, the amount of redundancy and paper we were pushing around was ridiculous!

I'm only a little over 50 years old but I am seriously considering buying a Buick. It has all the features I want and is in my price range. My kids will freak out. LOL! When I mentioned it to my oldest DD34, she said "What are you 80, mom???". My husband had a Buick burst into flames in a parking lot (right after he turned off the engine) and the man still wants another one. He said it was the most comfortable car he's ever owned. I bought my first pair of magnifying reading glasses the other day. My eyes have been very tired at the end of the day lately and I thought these would help. My kids will. not. lay. off. Stinkers. ACK! Off to goggle Buicks bursting into flames.

Five people are being sentenced today in a home invasion case.
The weather is going to be warm as sunny for the next week or so. A lot of us around here are very happy about that!

I am a volunteer treasurer for a nonprofit and we have to have annual audits. We now just scan everything as it gets done, save it in a file and then pass it onto the auditors when they need it. We have found it saves everyone time an aggravation. Just a suggestion.

I have a hard time with melatonin and it makes me feel awful in the morning, usually with a headache and just not myself for several hours. I saw this on Facebook a month ago or so and it has helped me a lot. 4-7-8 sleep trick I usually don't have trouble falling asleep, but I often wake up in the middle of the night and am up for a couple of hours. This has worked really well. When doing it, I usually think that it isn't going to work and then when I wake up, I am surprised that it did. Good luck! Thank you for posting this. I had the 4-7-8 trick bookmarked a while back and then lost it before I had a chance to read it though. I've been looking for it ever since. I wake up in the middle of the night and need something to help me get back to sleep.

I think the first thing you need to do is ditch the guilt and the self loathing. (talking to myself here, mostly) You are valuable and deserve to feel good, and treat yourself well. That includes a healthy balanced lifestyle of regular, fun activity, and food that nourishes your body and spirit. Annette I'd just like to comment on this as it is so true. I read an article a few years ago about how women can be so hard on themselves regarding their bodies. The author talked about how most women would never, ever say the things they say to themselves to their daughters or friends. Things like "you are so lazy, you need to get your ass off the couch" or "OMG, you ate a whole bag of chips, you are so pathetic". Would you ever say something like that to your daughter (friend, etc.)? The point was that women should try to replace those negative thoughts with something complimentary like "I have beautiful eyes" or "I only had one diet soda today, that is a win for me". It's about body, mind and spirit. It all needs to work together to help you get to your goals. I hope this make sense. I wish I had kept that article. I have no idea where I read it or who wrote it. It was very eye opening.

Yes I can relate. We usually get home form work around the same time. Some days, if I get home first, I quickly change before he gets there. I love DH with all my heart and he is a great guy but sometimes I am just not in the mood for that.

I thought it was a book-- isn't that always in the relationship threads? Someone recommending that the spouse read the love language book? Yes, it is a book "The 5 Love Languages" by Dr. Gary Chapman (have no idea what the title "Dr." means) I've read it and it is actually quite good. Once I was done I asked DH to read the chapter that pertained to me. It made us both realize that there were small things we could do to improve our marriage even after 20+ years. I now know some things that keep him happy and he knows what I need. IIRCC there are worksheets or some kind of assignments in the book but we didn't do those. I'd recommend it to every couple.

Please do not feel bad for sharing. You didn't put in any names or locations. And I agree with you that it is better share something like that here rather than with a friend's mom. You did a great job raising your daughter. I feel she handled the situation beautifully.

Half and half lasagna. Veggie for me and Italian sweet sausage for DH. He will eat it without any meat but specifically requested I add some for him this time. Oh and garlic bread, too.

Chinese take out. DH was suppose to get a tattoo tomorrow night but his uncle died on the 30th and all the funeral activities start late tomorrow afternoon. So he moved his appointment to tonight. It will be a quick dinner and then off to the tattoo shop. This is his second one and he is very excited about it.

We had an owl a couple of years ago and I loved listening to him at night. I saw one in our neighborhood last summer but never heard him. He must have come from the park that is close by our house. They are so cool!

One of my cats is near me or on my lap all.the.time. It's not so bad during the day but after we go to bed she must be right next to me. She is very large, very furry and warm, and I am going through menopause so that combo doesn't work well. I get overheated and try to throw off the blankets and she starts protesting loudly if I make her move which in turn wakes up DH. Ugh! It's a vicious cycle. I love her but I really wish she would sleep someplace else at night.

I have to think the media helped with this journey to hell in a handbasket. If the law enforcement was allowed to quietly organize for potential outcomes and the verdict were simply read the day it came out without all the egging and hype ... would rioters be prepared? Would they be in full-on destructive mode? Will formal announcements and 24-hour coverage help this situation? Guess we'll never know because this is the reality of our media today. They make news as much as they cover it. And if the officer is indicted, should we still expect riots simply because those with a passion for the subject prepared for this and why waste a good chance to break something in front of the national news media? This will not be a good evening, I fear. Prayers, Gina. I totally agree with this. And I also think that there will be a riot regardless of the verdict.

The best thing I could do when I had sciatica was to exercise. Sitting always felt good at the moment but only made it worse later. I would walk, do aerobics, or just general movement like doing chores around the house. It took a couple of weeks to feel better but now I have no pain at all.

Yes! I love getting up early. I do a couple of chores, usually laundry and maybe some dinner prep. Then I workout. If for some reason I have to cut my time short, I get irritated. That couple of hours in the morning helps me get ready to take on the rest of my day.

Could I? Yes. And actually I have a few times. Normally we are in bed between 9:00 and 9:30 pm. If I am up later than that I am a walking zombie the next day.

Patron Tequila either as a shot or in a margarita. I have gotten so that if I can't get Patron in my margaritas I don't get one at all.
